    AUTHOR’S NOTE

Dirty Detective is a spinoff in the Dockside Devil’s world. Once upon a time, part of this story was a free novella that has been doubled in length and sexy shenanigans. Logan is a morally grey detective with an eye for trouble. This over-the-top hero finds insta-love with his sassy woman.

This book is a dark romance. Please note this book contains the following: descriptive violence, dubious consent, BDSM elements, and mentions of drug use, and criminal activity. If these are triggers for you, please proceed with caution.

    LOGAN

My car rolls to a slow stop, parking in the empty lot next to my prey’s building. I’ve got a file sitting on the passenger seat of my car—standard police issue, nothing special—from the last guy assigned to stake her out. Minimal details include her shitbag boyfriend, Carson Harris—a problem for another day—runs drugs from the docks to the streets. Parents—estranged and living well off in Cambridge. Dropped out of beauty school after meeting said shitbag, and currently working at a bar around the corner he controls. I tap my fingers against the wheel, watching the street, waiting for her to show up.

There are a few things not in the file that I know about her at first glance…

Short, curvy, hot blonde. She likes little kids and dislikes big dogs. She doesn’t own a decent winter coat but keeps a ratty looking scarf around her neck. A slender graceful neck, I’d like to get my hands around. However, the most offensive fact I know, she has a penchant for tight dresses that ride up, showing the crease in the back of her thighs where my hand would fit, sliding right between them. Her indecent exposure has my palm itching to smack her ass and then tug her dress down to her ankles.

Little Miss Layla is in a world of trouble. Her poor choice of company has me needing to control the narrative to my police captain and her safety to the Irish Mafia. I can’t let her tight hot body divert me from my task.

She should be walking back from her shitty part-time job around the block for her late lunch hour before she heads back for a double shift. Layla works at a nasty little bar where she serves drinks and her cleavage on a sticky platter for the deadbeat patrons, including a few cops I work with, hence why I didn’t try to do this at her place of work.

    I’d blow both my covers.

My phone buzzes and I answer it while scanning the street for her.

Logan, have you found it? Declan Natas asks in a tone that says I better have an answer for him. Unfortunately, I don’t, not yet. He’s the boss for the Irish Mafia and our connection goes way back to the days of being altar boys.

Declan needs the information Carson Harris has been collecting. Lists of shipments, payments, and other things that put me on the line with my job as a detective.

    Am I dirty? Sure.

    But I have my reasons.

Dec, I’m working on it. I’ve been tailing the girlfriend. Calling her that sours my stomach, but it’s better than saying, the object of my obsession. The attraction was instant, the need to learn everything I could about her, protect her, and to make her mine.

Where is she now? I can have Niall pick her up. Declan’s gravelly voice demands an answer.

I swallow back my distaste. Niall kills first and asks questions later. He’s more psychotic than a comic book villain in a three-piece suit. I’m not about to challenge Declan over his brother when I can handle this my way, but I have to
