Musings from the Valley - Kaushik Ghosh

    For Someone’s Eyes

    What’s there inside your eyes?

    Deeper than an ocean,

Brighter than clear blue sky –

What lies deep in your eyes?

    Darker than a sorrow

    And lighter than a dream.

    The joys which you borrow

    Your nightmares and your screams

    Do hover in your eyes.

    A diver here I go –

    Looking for what’s within

    Soaked in your joy, sorrow

    Some pearls I’ve found therein.

Well, that much is my gain

With pearls, back to my boat –

In that old sun and rain.

In your eyes my boat floats.

    The Wanderer and the Tree

A weary wanderer here I come

Looking for shelter under the sun.

Won’t you spare a stretch of your shade?

The sun is up and its long before it fades.

Looking for solace all this time,

Found your shade – serene and sublime.

Will you spare a patch of this shade?

The sun is high enough and its long before it fades.

I won’t be here forever. You know.

Till then will you keep away the rain and snow?

I’ll be lying still beneath the grass blades,

The sun is still high and it will take long to fade.

And when my foot sores will hurt no more,

I’ll move on, I’ll move on for sure!

I’ll relinquish the space under your shade,

Although the sun will still be high enough to fade.

    Haiku III

    Streams

    Two parallel streams flow.

    Confluence! Back to courses

    But streams same no more.

    Haiku IV

    Traveler

    Traveler finds a tree.

Weary. Rests a while in shade.

    Has to go away.

    Mystic Cafe

The sky was pouring molten love

    And the whole town was getting wet;

We took the road that went through woods

Till our way back home we forget.

Stopped by a café, a mystic

one, we were sitting side by side –

We sipped our cups and our eyes met,

We are out on a joyous ride.

And it was then when our cups changed –

I sipped your drink and you sipped mine,

I saw molten pearls in your eyes

And you caressed pains in my whine.

The mystic café and the trees

With the sky pouring drops sublime
