    BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, now the capital of North Macedonia, was a remarkable humanitarian whose unwavering dedication to the service of the poor and destitute earned her worldwide acclaim. Her life was a testament to the power of compassion, selflessness, and the transformative impact one individual can have on the lives of countless others.

Anjezë's childhood was marked by a deep sense of faith and a desire to help those less fortunate. Raised in a devout Catholic family, her parents, Nikola and Drana Bojaxhiu, instilled in her the values of charity and kindness. Tragically, her father's untimely death when she was only eight years old left the family in financial hardship. Despite these challenges, Anjezë's mother remained steadfast in her commitment to helping the less fortunate, setting an example that would profoundly influence her daughter's life.

At the age of 18, Anjezë left her home in Skopje and joined the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland. She took the name Sister Mary Teresa, a choice that reflected her admiration for Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, known for her humility and devotion to a life of service. After completing her novitiate and taking her final vows in 1931, Sister Teresa was sent to teach at St. Mary's High School in Calcutta, India.

It was during her time in Calcutta that Sister Teresa's true calling emerged. The poverty and suffering she witnessed in the slums of the city left an indelible mark on her heart. The stark contrast between her own comfortable upbringing and the dire conditions of the impoverished population compelled her to dedicate her life to alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable.

In 1946, Sister Teresa experienced what she described as a call within a call during a train journey to Darjeeling. She felt a profound spiritual urging to leave the convent and live among the poor to serve them directly. This inner calling led her to receive permission from her superiors to establish the Missionaries of Charity, a congregation focused on aiding the destitute and those on the margins of society.

The Missionaries of Charity began their work in the slums of Calcutta, where Sister Teresa and her fellow sisters cared for the sick, fed the hungry, and provided comfort to the dying. Despite facing numerous challenges, including scarce resources and skepticism from some quarters, the congregation expanded its reach, establishing homes, clinics, and schools for the poor and abandoned.

One of Mother Teresa's most significant contributions was the founding of Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart), a home for the dying destitutes. Here, those in their final moments received love, care, and dignity, ensuring that even in death, they were not alone. This establishment laid the foundation for the Home for the Dying Destitutes, which became an integral part of the Missionaries of Charity's mission.

As Mother Teresa's work gained attention, so did the
