Definitely not fall for his charms. And most definitely not fall in love with him. Reid made her crazy…he made her feel crazy. She was either mad at him, mad because of him, or mad about him.

REID
Brilliant and a little eccentric. Most days his work kept him busy…kept him sane. Other days, Kira kept him grounded, kept his life in order at the same time she was messing with his routine. She drove him mad half the time, but he found himself looking forward to it.

MAD ABOUT YOU
Kira and Reid have been tiptoeing around their feelings for years, and now, they're about to find out just how crazy they are for each other.

Mad About You - Sophie An

    Chapter One

Good morning, Kira Martin greeted as Nicole stumbled across the living room into the kitchen where Kira had coffee already brewing for Nicole. Kira wasn’t a coffee drinker, but since Nicole was always late in the morning, Kira had made a habit of having coffee ready for Nicole.

Thank you for the coffee. What are you watching? At least that’s what she thought Nicole said behind her hand as she yawned.

Sonic, she replied cheerfully, remembering the times she and her brothers tried to outdo each other in their younger days while playing Sonic on their Dreamcast.

How can you be awake and happy right now? I want to go back to bed, but Evan wants me to go with him to harass some poor girl he wants as a client.

I thought he kissed ass to get his clients? Kira asked.

No, he just convinces them that he’s the guy for them. I swear, he’s so good at it, even I’m sold and want to make him my manager, even though I don’t need one.

We both know that ‘manager’ isn’t really what you have in mind, Kira responded with a grin. Nicole would never admit it, but Kira knew she was head over heels for her boss and from what Kira had seen Nicole had good reasons to be. Nicole’s boss defined the word handsome.

Shut up, Nicole responded with a scrunched nose. Ugh! You’re one of those disgustingly cheerful morning people! Nicole accused her. Kira laughed because she’s been accused of that many times and she didn’t even hide it. Kira liked mornings.

If I wasn’t, who would make your coffee?

For that and only that reason is why we’re friends, Nicole responded with a snort. They both knew it wasn’t. Their friendship had started fifteen years ago when Nicole had moved to California to live with her father and stepmother. That said stepmother turned out to be the Wicked Witch of the West. Kira’s family had unofficially adopted Nicole from the moment they met. It was like they’ve found a sister in each other.

    Are you working today?

Nope, Kira answered with a frown now that she’s been reminded she currently had no job.

Day off? Nice, Nicole responded as she leaned against the kitchen counter.

    Actually, I quit.

    You what?! Why?!

Because my boss was being a jerk. Her boss was a jerk; a pompous ass. She’d worked her ass off for that company for years. A year into the job, she knew there was nowhere else for her to go in the company since it was a family-owned business, but she stubbornly held on. Part of the reason she stayed so long was because she was lazy. She didn’t want to go out and look for another job. She liked the routine that she had, she liked her coworkers for the most part, and she’d grown up in the company.

He’s always been a jerk. So, what happened? Nicole asked.

I guess I just finally got sick of his crap. He came back from his trip and went on for an hour about how much we suck. I finally had enough and told him, ‘Since I suck so much, I’d better leave.’ And then I got up, left the meeting, got my things and left.

Did you really? Nicole asked with a laugh.

Yes. I’ve ignored every phone call from anyone in that company. I’ve emailed my resignation letter and pretty much have been home sulking for the last, hmmm, eighteen hours.

So, what’s your plan now? Nicole always had plans and lists.

Haven’t thought about it, Kira answered.

Well, this is great news then! Nicole responded with too much enthusiasm. Kira gave her a confused look. Kira wasn’t sure if she should be upset about the comment or laugh. Nicole realized her response must have sounded bad and laughed.

I’ve been wanting to ask you about a job. Evan’s client needs a personal assistant. After meeting him, I knew you’d be perfect for him…as an assistant, for the job.

    Why is that? Kira inquired.

Because you wouldn’t take his shit and quit within a week, Nicole answered with a smile.

He sounds like hell, Kira responded, thoughtfully.

He’s all fluff. All growl, no bite, Nicole replied with a smile.

Why does he need a personal assistant? What does he do?

    He’s a director.

    Like a movie director?

Yep, and he needs an assistant to remember to pay his bills and the likes. When he gets into what Evan calls, his ‘film mode’ he seems to forget to eat, breathe and sleep.

So, I would have to remind him to eat, breathe and sleep?

    Yes…and then some.

    Chapter Two

Reid wasn’t in the mood to deal with Evan Woods, but Evan wasn’t only his manager, he was also one of Reid’s closest friends. Reid was working on his next film, and he hated being interrupted when he’s working. Evan had let himself into Reid’s home with the spare key he’d been given knowing Reid wasn’t going to answer the door no matter how many times Evan rang the doorbell. Reid’s three closest friends and family all had access to his home because Reid hated to be bothered.

I’ve got you a new assistant, Evan said in greeting as he invaded Reid’s office.

    I don’t need a new assistant.

You need a new assistant based on the way you smell, Evan drawled as he settled himself in the chair across from Reid’s desk. When was the last time you showered? When was the last time you ate?

Reid would have continued to ignore his friend but damn if he didn’t feel it. He felt dirty, cramped and hungry. He thought about when he’d last showered. A couple of days. When had he last eaten? Three cups of coffee this morning. He’d barely slept. He had been on a roll, and he hadn’t wanted to stop. He didn’t want the story to slip away. Yeah, he did need a break. His roll was slowing down anyway. He’d been sitting there for an hour scratching his head.

I still don’t need an assistant. The last one you sent was annoying, Reid conceded.

She was only doing her job, just like the three others I sent you. You just don’t listen. The one I’m sending you is Nicole’s friend, she’s good.

Nicole? Reid couldn’t recall who that was.

My assistant for the last five years. You know, the one who answers the phone when you call my office or the one who greets you when you come in. The one who is always with me in meetings, Evan explained filled with sarcasm.

Right. That Nicole. The truth was, Reid couldn’t remember her name and vaguely remembered her face. Hell, Reid couldn’t even remember his assistants’ names. There’d been so many of them, they all seem to blur. Reid’s assistants didn’t last long because he had no patience for them. He preferred to do his own stuff, and he hated dealing with useless people.

    Okay, so?

So, I need you to make an effort Reid. These assistants are hired to make your life easier. To make sure you don’t go three days without showering and make sure you eat at least three meals a day.

    Fine.

Good. Now, how about you hop in the shower, and we get something to eat. I’d take you out the way you are now, but I don’t want my car to smell.

    Fuck you.

    You’re not my type.

    Chapter Three

After she pulled into the driveway, Kira grabbed the mail from the mailbox at the gate and added it to the pile of fan mail she’d picked up
