Mated to the Cursed Prince - Luizdo

    CHAPTER 1 The News

A small figure curled up in a queen-sized wooden bed that could be seen inside a dimly lit room where the only source of light was the gentle rays of sunlight reflecting through the tiny space that the thick and vintage curtains hung on the double door window missed covering.

Her fiery mid-waist hair was strewn across the soft pillows—a stark contrast to the grey cotton linens.

She let out a low groan as she slowly awoke from her deep slumber. Her heart was pounding as though she carried the weight of the entire world on her shoulders.

Genova's groggy, sapphire blue eyes took a moment of adjustment to realize she was back in her bedroom. A slight frown graced her smooth and youthful brow as she wondered if the events of the day before were all in her head?!

Could she have merely dreamt of all that happened on her sixteenth birthday?

She shook her head to organize her thoughts, but the pounding in her head was too loud to ignore. Her reasoning and focus were becoming erratic as a result.

She had migraines on a regular basis, but never to this extent. And she was certain it had something to do with last night. Her mind couldn't have made up all of that!

'How did I get home, though?' She was perplexed.

'I think I made it back before I completely blacked out!'

Or perhaps, the dreadful experience on her sixteenth birthday was indeed just her imagination. Otherwise, how else could she explain how she had managed to get out unscathed from a situation that almost ruined her life?

Genova hoped her parents went to bed early because she didn't want them worrying about her any more than they already were.

A sad sigh left her throat as she slowly yet gingerly crawled out of bed. So much for her much-anticipated 16th birthday celebration, which of course, was a complete flop.

Thank God, there wasn't much damage! But why was her memory so disorganized? Why is it that she can't remember anything after she blacked out?

Genova made a mental note to stay away from pubs at all costs. She didn't want the same thing to happen again in the future. For the time being, she will push back all the negativity that her dream/last night's deed had instilled in her and concentrate on the life that lies ahead of her.

Genova was overjoyed because it was Sunday. That being the case, she should try to get a little more sleep because her body was begging for it.

She looked at the time on the nightstand and realized it was still early. The antic golden alarm clock she'd received from her father for her fifteenth birthday and had kept beside her bed since then showed it was only 6:58 a.m.

There was no need for an early rise today because she wasn't required to be at work or school. The advantage of weekends!

With that, she laid down and soon drifted back to sleep.

It was 11:25 am when her eyes fluttered open again.

Her eyes fluttered open again at 11:25 a.m.

And with the burning sensation in her stomach, she knew she needed to eat something quickly before it got worse. She was starving!

Her previous throbbing headache had also subsided significantly, much to her relief. So Genova got up, showered, and went downstairs for brunch.

When Genova entered, her mother Mary was sitting alone on the kitchen couch with a cup of tea in front of her.

Good morning, honey! Mary smiled warmly at her daughter.

Good morning, mom! Genova smiled back and leaned in to kiss her mother on the cheek. I hope you got a good night's sleep? She added as she drew away from the older woman.

Mary chuckled. My night was well rested, honey. I could say the same about yours; I came to inform you of breakfast earlier but found you deep asleep.

Genova's mind took a quick spin to the night before and she unknowingly pursed her lips. She was still unsure exactly what had happened or if her parents were aware of anything. But looking at her mother right now, the woman appeared relaxed, a reaction which contradicted how it would be should her mom had found out about her unanswered questions.

She was snapped out of her reverie when she heard, Come, sit while I fix you something to eat. Mary signaled her daughter to come closer by patting the space beside her.

Hmm. Genova hummed and sat down beside her mom.

Mary drew a new teacup from the tray and poured a pinkish-reddish liquid into it. Here, have some tea while I prepare you brunch.

Mom, have I told you how wonderful you are?

I'm not sure... but I'm always happy to hear, Mary winked.

Genova chuckled while bringing the cup to her lips and sipped the hot liquid. Her eyes shut close as she hummed in satisfaction.

I could never get tired of your cooking and tea-making abilities, Mom. No one can beat you in these, I tell you, she commented while grinning from ear to ear.

Mary shook her head and laughed quietly. You and your father are the most important people in my life. And, as they say, the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. And that includes you, my dear!

Images of her dad's face and how he always made such delightful sounds which always came off annoying to her mom whenever he ate, flashed through Genova's mind. Her head couldn't help but tilt back as she reverberated in a burst of laughter.

Mary's smile broadened. I know what must be running through that head of yours. The fact that you immediately started laughing after my remark about your father... It can only be about him.

You know me too well, mama.

Indeed I do. You are my child after all! Mary stated while walking back to the dining table with a bowl of lentil soup and three slices of flat bread.

Thank you so much, mom, Genova said gratefully. She then took a soup spoon and began digging into her food. But as she did so, it occurred to her that she had not seen her father anywhere.

    Where is dad? She inquired.

Oh, he's out! Should be back soon, honey.

Ok! Genova said nothing more as her attention returned to her food.

Mary refilled her teacup and kept tapping the table with her fingers while watching her daughter eat.

Genova became aware of the older woman's unusual behavior. Is there anything bothering you, Mom? She asked, her eyes narrowed.

Mary came to a halt as she realized she had been tapping the table while her mind wandered away. She forced a smile with, Nothing to be concerned about, dear. I'll tell you after you've finished your meal.

Genova became even more tense. She took the soup bowl and gulped the liquid down her throat with one goal in mind.

There, I'm done! She said, showing her mom the empty soup bowl and urging the woman to begin.

Indeed! Mary sighed. Well, your father and I decided to have you move in with your aunt in Wooddale. She went on to say, You are aware that your chances of finding a good job are better in larger cities. A small town like Roseville has nothing to offer a girl like you.

    CHAPTER 2 The News 2

Well, your father and I both decided to have you move in with your aunt in Wooddale. She continued, You know your chances of finding a better job are higher in big cities. A small town like Roseville has too little to offer a girl like you, my child.

Genova went stiff upon hearing that.

Her eyes shut up at her mom, looking so taken aback.

Mary let out a deep sigh seeing the look of shock on her daughter's face. Admittedly, the older woman had expected this exact reaction because anyone close to them would have deduced how inseparable their family of three was.

Genova was a child who had never been away from her family since the day she came into their lives. So this sudden news was sure going to be hard for her to digest.

Leaning over the table to take her daughter's hands, Child, as parents, you have to believe that we will always do what's best for you. Your betterment will always come before ours. And this decision is one that we have pondered greatly about and decided it was the best thing to do for you, Mary tried to console her child, but the girl's mind was too occupied running myriads of questions about what prompted this decision.

Why were her parents suddenly sending her away?

For as long as her memory served, never once had they given her the feeling of getting separated from her. But why now?

Does this sudden decision have something to do with how her birthday turned out?

The most important question would be, what exactly happened last night?

Genova's heart was pounding so hard against her ribcage as though she would have a meltdown.

The fear of leaving her safe haven and facing the outside world without having her parents close was tangible. She had gotten way too comfortable with her current life that she never thought about leaving any of this behind one day. The world out there was full of competition - people using others as stepping stones to climb up the lather in their selfish quest to get to the top.

The cruelty of the world was something she never wished to be a part of. She never wanted to experience any of it!

But it would seem that hope had come collapsing on her way sooner than she would have ever pictured.

Returning her focus to the woman before her, Why the sudden change, mom? Does it have anything to do with last night?

Mary's eyebrows came together. Did something happen during your outing with Zaina last night? She queried worriedly.

    Genova pursed her lips.

Judging from her mom's reaction, she confirmed that the older woman is indeed clueless about what might have happened during her night out.

But how did she get home?

More importantly, why can't she remember anything after that one glass of Long Island?

Could it be that the Booz content was too strong for her to handle?

'But how can that be? I specifically requested one with the minimum intake or none at all if possible.'

Perhaps even the tiniest quantity was a no-go for her.

Do you have any idea how I might have gotten home from the party? Genova decided to probe her mom further, simultaneously avoiding the older woman's question.

Oh, yes! You phoned your dad in the middle of the night, asking him to pick you up, Mary answered with a confused expression. Don't you remember? she asked incredulously.

Genova hummed in understanding and gave her mother a crocket smile. Of course I do. I only wanted to confirm something.

'So dad brought me home. But why is any of these not making sense to me?' She muttered internally.

    2 Months Later

Genova was bidding goodbye to her parents, who were in tears at the departure gate.

After the conversation with her mom on the preceding morning of her Sixteenth birthday about the issue of moving to live with her aunt in Wooddale, Genova couldn't help but feel that something was wrong.

The sudden decision left her feeling like there was a big ploy behind this conclusion. Every fiber in her blood said this had something to do with her.

She felt guilty for no apparent reason because she never had the idea that her parents would want to be separated from her one day.

It didn't matter how they put it because how she saw this, it was as though she was being punished for whatever unknown sin she might have committed.

The excuse to ensure she got a better life was far from convincing!

Though her income working at a café shop wasn't all that pleasing… it was still something. Indeed, Roseville was a small town with little to offer, but the money their farming generated had been enough to pay her school fees, food and other expenses.

It had been enough for her family of three to live well ever since she knew her left from right.

What's more, things got even better when she got herself that job. It lifted a significant burden on her parents as she could now foot her own bills and even had enough left to save for future purposes.

The family of three lived a simple life and never wasted on unnecessary things. As such, Genova's salary and their farm's revenue were more than enough to bring them through any difficulty in life.

Genova tried making her mom and dad understand that she didn't need anything more than what she already had, but to her dismay, nothing she did or said could falter their minds.

    She was left disheartened!

She didn't want to be away from the only people she had lived her entire life with.

Her heart was aching, thinking she wasn't wanted anymore. However, seeing how devastating this decision made her parents, she understood it was even harder on them.

She realized that it wasn't as she had imagined.

They weren't shipping her away because of her unknown sin!

But why were they insisting on her leaving if they also hurt as much as she was?

What use would whatever money she might earn in the city be if she couldn't be with the two people she loved the most?

It wasn't like they would ever require a penny from her anyway.

No matter how hard Genova tried to understand this situation, she just couldn't. Perhaps she might have seen things in a different light should this decision have been brought up any day other than after the event that took place on her sixteenth birthday—one she was yet to fully make sense of.

    CHAPTER 3 Wooddale

Genova inched closer to her mom and wiped the tears away from the older woman's eyes with her thumb.

Mom, dad. Please take good care of yourselves. I will phone you once our flight lands in Wooddale, she said while fighting back her own tears.

Mary sniffled. Okay honey… please be safe out there.

Be vigilant and always watch your back. Big cities aren't that safe for young girls like you; avoid getting deceived by some bastards that might try to sweet talk you into doing anything with them. Her dad chimed in.

Mary and Genova both turned to look at him and burst into laughter.

The man's jaws were clenched as though the mere thought of it was about to make him go on a killing spree.

Our little girl isn't a child anymore, honey. She will find her right match one day and have her own family. I'm even more glad she's being sent away because no man will dare to pursue her knowing her dad will rain hellfire on them, Mary chided her husband.

Ferd uttered no word. However, one could tell he disagreed with whatever his wife had just said. He couldn't stomach the idea of any man getting rough and intimate with his little girl.

'I will kill the bastard before he even gets close.' His hands balled into fists as he swore internally.

[Attention please. This is to announce that flight 32456 to Wooddale is still boarding at gate 52. All remaining passengers, please proceed to gate 52 for your boarding. There will be no further call for this flight, thank you]

Genova knew she was running out of time when she heard the announcement.

I have to go now- she was saying when her mom gathered her again in a warm embrace.

Always remember that we love you so much, and we'll always be here for you whenever you need us, Mary said through tears when she finally pulled away from the young lady.

I know, and I love you guys more, Genova responded with a forced smile.

With that, she turned around and hurried toward the boarding gate without looking back.

She didn't want to miss her flight which would mean paying an extra fee to rebook the ticket. That would be a waste of money!

Mary and Ferd stood there and watched until their daughter's figure disappeared - getting mixed into the busy crowd.

I hope she will be safe out there. I am worried about her… we both know what happened-

She'll be okay, my love. Don't worry too much about her; our little girl is smart and will know when she faces any danger, Ferd interjected, cutting her off from worrying too much.

Let's head back home! He added.

Genova was sweating bullets by the time she ultimately boarded the aircraft. She would have missed her flight any second later.

She let out a deep exhale, wondering why traveling was so exhausting.

If only she had teleportation magic like in those fantasy movies she had seen or could run as fast as the flash... Imagine how quick it would be to travel all over the world.

[Good day Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. Welcome onboard aircraft (airbox 386) to Wooddale. We are expected to arrive at our destination...]

Genova quickly brought out her phone to inform her parents that she was already onboard the aircraft and was ready for departure while the announcement was ongoing.

When she was done sending them the text message, she turned the phone off before putting it back inside her handbag.

She then rested her head on the headrest of her seat and closed her eyes for a nap.

    A Few Hours Later

Genova was woken up by one of the air hostesses. She was told to fasten her seatbelt and prepare for landing.

She yawned and slightly stretched her body while looking out the window to see the magnificent and bustling city of Wooddale.

The last time Genova visited this part of the world was over six years ago.

A small smile graced her lips as she reminisced memories of her aunt.

One could tell they were happy recollections with the look on her face.

Genova didn't waste time turning on her smartphone to let her parents know she made it to
