A Wolfson Press Fellow of Cambridge University, UK, she thereafter turned to teaching journalism and communication at a college of the Ministry of Higher Education, Oman. She now lives in India, in the suburbs of New Delhi.

Preface
Throughout my childhood, I have seen women around me who have led their lives with a sense of purpose, regulating their daily routines to consider each member of their rather large households. They handled their relations with kindness, patience and grace, never leaving out a single member of their families. They tirelessly supported every endeavor of their menfolk, wholeheartedly plunging themselves into the services required of them in order to make a success of their husbands’ and sons’ plans, always with a smile on their faces. These remarkable women never thought to ask for recognition or praise.
After a busy day catering to the many needs of their families, they would gather in the evenings,
