    Chapter 1

The warm sun filtered through the lush canopy above, dappling the forest floor with patches of light. Alec, as he often did, let his mind wander and daydream while resting in their secluded spot. Despite all the incredible things that had changed since they arrived here, one thing remained constant: Josh’s teasing about Alec’s tendency to get lost in his thoughts. The rustle of leaves and chirping of birds were a soothing soundtrack to Alec’s musings, as he watched the sunlight dance across the forest floor like a whimsical symphony. Memories of playful banter with Josh tickled his mind, making him smile despite himself. This place was a haven, a paradise where time seemed to stand still and worries melted away in the warm embrace of nature. And even if his daydreaming earned him more teasing from Josh,

Alec wouldn’t have it any other way.

The memories of the Battle for Lemuri still clung tightly to his mind, refusing to loosen their grip. They were as vivid and sharp as the day they had triumphed over the Jinn and reclaimed his soul within the steel of Angurvagal Morpheus’s blade of legend. His heart ached for Savi, his mother, who had returned to Alerion to continue her reign as queen. The reunion had been briefing and the longing he had for her as a child returned slightly, even if slightly less powerfully in the knowledge of her now being very much alive. The Phoenix that had granted her such immense power had flown off into the unknown, leaving behind a sense of peaceful serenity in its wake. Erobus was finally at rest, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling that it was only temporary.

The villages that peppered the coastline had finally settled back into their rhythm of normality. The fisherman, once fearful of venturing out to sea, now sailed with confidence and ease, knowing that Alec and his comrades had bravely fought to secure their safety and freedom. Any lingering doubts or fears were quickly dispelled, for seeing was believing - and all appeared peaceful and still once more. The salty scent of the ocean mixed with the warmth of the sun, creating a calming atmosphere that soothed any remaining worries in the hearts of the villagers. Life had returned to its comfortable pace, but the memory of Alec’s heroism lingered in the hearts and minds of the grateful community.

The islands were once again a breathtaking sight. Sofpavel was as vibrant as it had ever been, a verdant paradise teeming with life.

Despite its scars from a tumultuous past and the lingering shadows of evil and torment overseen by dark lords, Maredrom still held an eerie allure. Against all odds, there was a potential for redemption within its borders, no matter how improbable it may seem. The winding streets were lined with crumbling buildings and abandoned homes, but amidst the destruction, there was an undeniable sense of mystery and intrigue. Perhaps it was the remnants of ancient magic or the whispers of long-forgotten secrets that enticed travellers to explore this forsaken land. Yet deep down, there was a glimmer of hope that one day, Maredrom would be free from the darkness that had consumed it for so long.

Midjun, the smallest of the three, now served as a strategic outpost against any possible invasion, the fall of the tower serving as an opening for the works now taking place there. And finally, Lemuri, a small island to the North of Midjun, its size dwarfed by its neighbouring islands. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in its magical aura. The island is lush and filled with vibrant colours, from the turquoise waters surrounding it to the emerald green of the trees and flowers that cover its land. The air shimmers with magic, as if invisible sparks are floating all around. Enchanted lights twinkle in the distance, casting a warm glow over the quiet streets. It feels like a peaceful paradise, an escape from the turmoil of the outside world. Each had its own distinct charm that captivated the senses and each lay in a state so much better than they had upon Alecs arrival all that time ago.

The treacherous Probetor had escaped into the shadows, his figure disappearing into the darkness as he fled from the face of such adversity. But little did they know, he was far from giving up. He burned with a furious desire for revenge, fuelled by what he saw as betrayals from those who he thought were allies. This time, there was no mistaking it - true betrayal had occurred. In the final battle that led to his downfall, he barely escaped defeat as the malicious Koschei and Jenny turned against him to side with the Jinn. It was clear now that their ultimate goal had always been to release The Jinn and work at his side once again. For the Probetor, greed and hunger for power had consumed him, making him careless in his actions and ultimately leading to his demise. Even in defeat, his burning desire for vengeance remained strong.

Erobus now in the aftermath of these events stood as a sanctuary, its pristine landscapes bathed in the golden light of a new dawn. It was here within this realm on the island of Sofpavel that Alec and Josh found solace, their hearts mending from the wounds inflicted by the battles they had fought and the people they had lost. As they embraced this land as their new home, the shadows of the past seemed to fade into the distance, not gone but simply hidden from sight, a cloud floating across the sun temporarily hiding the shadow that had stood so firmly besides. However, despite this knowledge in the back of Alec’s mind he had been relieved, allowing them to breathe freely for the first time in what felt like an eternity.

Look at it, Alec, Josh said, his blue eyes glistening with wonder as he scanned the horizon. It’s hard to believe that just months ago, we were fighting for our lives. You quite literally to be fair but myself maybe more metaphorically, the food in the hospitals here was not great!

Alec nodded with a slight chuckle at the comment, the weight of responsibility on his shoulders lessened as he took in the beauty before them, the time that had passed feeling like only seconds when in reality it had been quite some time, in Erobus anyway. It’s a miracle, really, he replied, his deep brown eyes reflecting the tranquil scenery.

Josh’s smile faltered; his mind unable to shake the memories of his fallen comrades. Their faces flashed before him, each one a reminder of the cost of their mission. They had all bravely fought against the forces of Maredrom, but many had not made it out alive. Josh couldn’t help but think of Logan, his closest friend and ally, who had sacrificed his own life to save Josh from the clutches of Probetor. He remembered the fierce battle within the dark castle of Midjun, with flames and screams surrounding them as they fought for survival. Josh clenched his fists at the thought of Probetor’s callousness, how he had taken Logan’s life without a second thought. It was a loss that Josh would never forget.

His heart clenched with pain, the guilt of not being able to be there for him gnawing at his soul. I just wish Logan could be here with us. He was quite the character, quite the guide for us! He looked down at the ground, a small grin appeared as he recalled how he had looked dressed in Koschei clothing when they came up with the awful plan to distract them by pretending to be them.

Alec placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder, offering comfort through his touch. I know, Josh. We all do. But we can’t change the past. Probetor will pay for his actions, if he isn’t already doing so. We lost a few good people but at least we can take solace in the fact that we won.

As they stood together, the sun continuing to cast a warm glow upon their faces, the people of Erobus went about their daily routines with everything for them having returned to normality. The laughter of children mingled with the songs of birds, while gentle breezes rustled through the trees. It was a testament to the resilience of life here, a symbol of hope amid the darkness that had once threatened to consume them all and always played as a constant reminder to Alec as to what they had fought for in the first place.

Sometimes, I wonder what it would have been like if we’d never come here, Alec mused, his gaze wandering over the rolling hills and lush forests. If I had never discovered my true purpose, about who you are and met my mother. So much changed in such a small period of time it is incredible to fully understand it all, even now.

Josh sighed, his shoulders sagging as he considered the question. I think our lives would have been very different, but not necessarily better. You were given a chance to make a difference Alec. To protect this world and its people. You can’t let that opportunity slip away. You have a great gift within you, to have never discovered that would have been a great shame, not just for you but for everyone. However, I can see how not discovering about your old man could have possibly been beneficial!

Alec nodded; his resolve strengthened by Josh’s words whilst equally always being able to roll his eyes at whatever finishing remark, he may always slip in. As they stood there, the future stretched out before them like a blank canvas, filled with both promise and uncertainty. And though the spectre of danger loomed on the horizon, they knew that together with their alliances here, they could face whatever challenges awaited them. For they were now very much part of the guardians of realms, the light that would guide their people through the darkest nights.

Let’s go anyway, Josh interrupted with a cheerier disposition.

    I’m getting hungry!

Alec nodded and together they head off back towards the towering city walls that stood so proudly around the great capital city of Sofpavel.

As they began their walk, the wonders of Erobus revealed themselves in all their glory. Bejewelled dragonflies zipped past, their iridescent wings leaving a trail of shimmering light in their wake. Unusual creatures wandered amongst the undergrowth, such as the moss-covered Tortlephant – a peculiar blend of tortoise and a miniature elephant – lumbering gracefully amidst the ferns. A cluster of delicate butterflies, their wings patterned like stained glass, fluttered around a bubbling brook encased by lush vegetation.

Sometimes, Alec mused aloud, I can hardly believe this place is real. It’s so different from the world I knew before and so similar at the same time.

Isn’t it incredible? Josh agreed, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. Erobus has a magic all its own.

They soon stepped past the massive entrance gates; the travellers found themselves immersed in the vibrant marketplace. The children’s joyful screams and shouts blended in with the local people’s lively conversations.

As they passed by a group of children playing, one of them called out, Look, it’s Alec! The one who saved us all! The children flocked around him, reaching out to touch his cloak as though it were a sacred relic.

Alright, alright, Alec chuckled, gently extricating himself from the throng of tiny hands. This attention was never something he become accustomed to nor particularly wish for I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friends. Please worship the great JoFrey here He nudged his companion, who beamed at the praise despite having to remind him to only refer to him as Josh.

Ah, humble as always, an elderly woman remarked, smiling warmly as she approached the pair. Your heroics on Lemuri have not gone unnoticed. You brought hope back to our hearts, let them worship you for that, idols are good for young minds.

Thank you, ma’am, Alec replied, a soft blush creeping up his

cheeks. We’re just happy to be able to call this place home.

Master Alec! Master Josh! a booming voice echoed through the marketplace, silencing the chatter of the villagers. All eyes turned to the towering figure approaching them – Hypnos, leader of the Nyx armies. His golden wings glinted in the sunlight, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to hold the weight of countless secrets.

    Good morning, Hypnos, Alec greeted.

Indeed, it is a fine day, Hypnos said, inclining his head in a show of respect. I have heard much praise recently for your deeds on Lemuri. The people of Sofpavel seem to worship you these days. A pressure I have certainly never enjoyed and do not envy you for.

Likewise, Hypnos, Alec replied, enjoying the sense of kinship that had grown with the commander however sensing a slight air of envy in his voice.

As they walked through the village, Alec couldn’t help but marvel at the sense of unity that had blossomed among its inhabitants. From the old woman who thanked him for his heroics to the children who saw him as a legend, he knew that he had found a place where he truly belonged despite his desire for slightly less attention.

And yet, a shadow of doubt still clung to the corners of his mind. He found himself glancing over his shoulder, as though expecting some new threat to materialize out of thin air. It seemed too good to be true – this newfound peace, this fragile sense of belonging. As much as he longed to shed his fears and embrace the promise of a brighter future, he couldn’t shake the feeling that danger was never far behind.

Have you heard about Nero’s mission on Midjun? asked Josh, his voice barely audible above the chorus of chatter around them. He’s establishing a new settlement there, making sure the island is protected from any future invasions.

Ah yes, Alec replied, Freyja mentioned it to me. She said that Nero has been teasing her constantly, trying to convince her to join him.

Hypnos chuckled, shaking his head. That sounds like Nero, alright. He seems to have developed a soft spot for Freyja, I cannot say that I approve!

Months had passed since Nero left for his mission, and Alec had found himself curious as to how well the settlement was progressing. He had yet to make the trip to visit despite his intentions to do just that having existed for some time.

Hey, Alec! Josh called out, jogging over with a wide grin on his face having just finished a conversation with a local stall keeper during Alec’s pondering. I hear there’s a festival happening in the village tonight. Care to join me as I cannot say no to that?

Alec smiled at his friend’s enthusiasm. Sure, it sounds like fun.

As they strolled down the cobblestone street, the faint sound of music grew louder and melded with the chatter of excited voices. The large square ahead was bathed in a warm glow from lanterns strung between buildings. Even the rays of sunlight couldn’t diminish the serene atmosphere that enveloped the bustling community as it prepared for its annual festival. Children ran around with colourful streamers while their parents chatted and laughed, enjoying the evening’s festivities. Alec stood next to Josh, his heart full of wonder and relief as he took in the vibrant scene.

Ah, it seems to have begun early! Come on, let’s join them, Josh encouraged, nudging Alec toward a group of villagers who were engaged in spirited conversation.

Hypnos huffed, you go along, festivities are not my thing. I need to head to the castle anyway, I would appreciate your attendance before the sun next rises Sir Alec.

Alec nodded, unsurprised by Hypnos not being overly keen to party.

As they approached the square itself, a young woman with hair the colour of twilight greeted them with a warm smile. Alec! We were just discussing your heroic feats in the Battle for Lemuri!

Ah, Isabella, Alec replied, returning her smile. We couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone here. It seems to be a popular subject today!

As the conversation continued, Alec’s attention was drawn to a group of children playing nearby. They pretended to wield swords and shields, re-enacting the great battle with their own fanciful twists. He couldn’t help but chuckle at their enthusiasm and imagination, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for the innocence that thrived here now hoping for them to never have to experience the reality.

Peace is a gift we must never take for granted, murmured Alec to Josh, his eyes lingering on the carefree children.

True, agreed Josh. But we should also remember to celebrate our victories. Tonight is one such occasion.

Speaking of celebrations, interrupted Isabella, excitement dancing in her eyes, we have a surprise for you both.

Really? What is it? Alec inquired; curiosity piqued.

Ah, that would ruin the surprise! she teased. You’ll find out soon enough.

As they continued to mingle with the villagers, Alec couldn’t help but be struck by the joy he felt surrounded by all of these people. Such a stark reality to his own previous home life on Earth where other than Josh he barely associated with anyone.

In those rare moments of stillness, when he sat alone and observed his friends dancing around him, Alec’s mind would inevitably wander to thoughts of Probetor. Where had his father gone? And what plans did he have for the future? A shadow of unease constantly lingered in his heart, even as he laughed and celebrated with Josh and their new companions. His father’s presence always seemed to be with him, an ever-present ghost haunting his every move. No matter how much joy he experienced at any given moment, there was always a looming sense of foreboding, like a dark cloud that refused to leave his side.

Hey, whispered Josh, noticing Alec’s distant expression. Don’t let your worries consume you. We’re here, and that’s what matters most.

Thank you, said Alec, offering a small smile. I suppose you’re right.

Alec continued to watch on as the afternoon dragged on and the first signs of evening began to creep in. The constant greetings and people wishing to shake his hand he felt tiring. He was too polite to refuse and he had made a lot of connections in his time here of which he enjoyed.

Alec! How are you? Enjoying the festivities? called out an elderly woman he had grown fond of as if to reinstate this thought, her gnarled fingers gently stroking the soft fur of a gryphling perched on her shoulder.

Better than ever, Mrs. Kaldren, Alec replied warmly, his eyes twinkling with sincerity. And how’s young Gideon doing?

Feisty as always! She chuckled, patting the gryphling affectionately before continuing on her way.

And as the evening wore on, the village square became alive and resonated with laughter and song, echoing the harmony that defined life here now. One that Alec was aware he could well become used to.

    Chapter 2

Alec and Josh trudged up the winding path to the castle, their breaths misting in the cool air just before sunrise. The first faint rays of light painted the sky a pale pink, hinting at the dawn that would soon break over Erobus. Hypnos had requested their presence the night before, then again, this morning sent for them. Usually this would be of no surprise however this time urgency coloured his normally composed demeanour.

Alec raised a hand to shield his eyes from the low-lying sun as he peered at the building a few hundred yards in front of them. I feel that something’s not right, he murmured, his deep brown eyes scanning every detail of the structure.

Same here, Josh responded, relief flooding through him when he realized that Alec had felt it too. His piercing blue eyes reflected the worry that settled in his chest.

As they entered the castle, the heavy doors creaked open, revealing an anxious looking Freyja and Hypnos patiently waiting within. The recently crowned Queen of Sofpavel looked regal as ever, her silver hair cascading around her shoulders like a shimmering waterfall, while the enigmatic leader of the Nyx armies seemed more imposing than usual in his golden armour—his wingspan unfurled, casting an eerie shadow behind him and creating a greater sense of size than what he already achieved in sheer size alone. Despite Alec always having seen him as almost a warrior from the heavens the darkened floor beneath him appeared almost demonic in nature.

Thank you for coming so quickly, Freyja said, her voice calm yet tinged with concern. We’ve received news that Probetor has been spotted within the Dark Domain and he does not appear to be sitting idly.

Alec’s heart clenched, the name of the malevolent figure bringing forth recent memories best left buried. He swallowed hard, pushing his fears aside and ignoring the temptation to simply try to hide from the information itself. What do you know about the Dark Domain? He queried, having not heard of this particular realm before.

Tell them, Hypnos, Freyja prompted, her gaze never leaving Alec’s face.

Few dare to enter its realms, Hypnos began, his eyes darkening as he spoke. "It is a place where hope withers and dies, a land shrouded in darkness. The landscapes are twisted and eerie, filled with jagged cliffs, bottomless pits, and treacherous forests where shadows seem to come alive. Little is known in truth however about the inner workings of this place, we do not visit this area. It lives on the outer skirts of the known realms and it has always been, until now difficult to reach. We do not believe either that much does reside there and it is virtually impossible to see with our current tools and methods. The Alerions have a better view of it with their advanced technology, they are the ones that saw him and this was simply through a chance scan of a nearby realm. He is emitting a

magical aura of which appears to be affecting nearby realms."

The creatures that dwell there are likely to be unlike any we’ve encountered before, Freyja added, her voice barely above a whisper. Their very essence is steeped in darkness and mystery, making them dangerous and unpredictable.

Alec and Josh shared a concerned look; they were aware that Probetor would see these creatures as a possible powerful army, which meant their peaceful way of life would soon be forgotten. They had just begun to settle into this new existence, and now it seemed like it would all come crashing down.

He clenched his fists, determination and frustration replacing fear and
