Mark Lamoncha, my support to your best success
Foreword
Mark Lamoncha and Tim Figley have developed a winning Game Plan
for business and industry that can create success for ALL groups and teams. Believing that a group is insignificant until EVERY individual is greatly valued by the TEAM, Mark and Tim have a proven formula for your TEAM’s success.
The journey in this book begins with transforming the workplace
into a performance center
that can raise the excitement and productivity level of everyone. Developing a Win-Win Culture
instills camaraderie for everyone to come together each day. Our championship TEAMS at Ohio State and Youngstown State could not wait to be together each day to see just how good we could become. We learned that when we came together with a common cause, we could experience greatness.
Finally, developing a connection between the coaches and Industrial Athletes results in the care that will allow the entire organization to reach its full potential.
Dig in, study their system, apply the principles, and your TEAM can become a championship TEAM. As we all know, great things do not happen overnight. The hallmark of excellence, the test of greatness, is consistency. It is time to perform, time to coach, time to love, time to genuinely care, and time to WIN!!
Jim Tressel
Head Football Coach, Youngstown State University and
The Ohio State University, Five-Time National Champion
Past President, Youngstown State University.
The Industrial Athlete:
More Than a Metaphor
What if our team members could be as engaged in the workplace as our favorite athletes are on the playing field? To see people truly engaged, watch them put their whole selves into outperforming the competition to win a coveted trophy. Watch the fans, their faces painted, wearing their favorite team's jersey at their favorite college football game. They are cheering with their friends, having the time of their lives.
But what happens when we follow them to work the next week? Are they as excited? Engaged? Committed?
Imagine creating a high-performing organization where everyone engages with their whole being while working for the love of it. That is exactly what we set out to do.
We asked,
Is there a way to create a workplace that facilitates engaged team members to create better organizational performance?
Yes, there is! Transforming your workplace into a performance center can motivate people to unleash their talents, interests, passion, and teamwork. As a natural consequence, sales revenue, net profit margin, and customer retention tend to increase.
This book reveals how you can take the same concepts that a successful athletic environment creates for players and use them to create better engagement and higher productivity among your workforce for greater organizational performance.
The Industrial Athlete Operating System
The Industrial Athlete Operating System focuses on four areas of transformation for your organization: workplace performance, culture, management, and employees. This comprehensive and extremely effective talent management system hastransformedasmallcompanyteeteringon the edge ofbankruptcy intoafiercelycompetitive, rapidlygrowing, anddominantplayerinthemetalcasting industry.
The Industrial Athlete Operating System recognizes that human potential is the most valuable business asset–because nobody has ever created anything better than a human being.
It has been said that we have emerged into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, referred to as Industry 4.0.[1] There is a great need to shift from the first Industrial Age mentality of managing people like things, to an updated People 4.0
that revolutionizes how we lead people into greater engagement and performance.[2]
As technology and AI reshapes the world, pundits fear that the value of human potential will be diminished in the workplace. In response, the Industrial Athlete Operating System shows how the most profitable and forward-thinking organizations can enable human potential to create organizational success.
This system taps into the science of human performance to get everyone rowing in the same direction so that the whole organization can function with synergy.
Envision a Swiss watch. Since the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, every gear is important.[3] If one gear malfunctions, the entire watch stops. Similarly, this system recognizes that the people who are the lifeblood of your company have unique value and untapped energy in their ability to create value together.
The Industrial Athlete Operating System implements four mindset shifts that transform workplaces from the ordinary to the extraordinary by transforming employees into high-performing Industrial Athletes, as illustrated in Figure 1. By optimizing their experiences, organizations go from surviving to thriving. Each essential transformation will be explored in detail for practical application to any organization.
The Workplace Transformation:
From Workplace to Performance Center
The Culture Transformation:
From Tug-of-War Culture to a Win-Win Culture
The Employee Transformation:
From Employee to Industrial Athlete
The Managerial Transformation:
From Boss to Coach
