Don’t Forget Thy Neighbour: The Desire to Lend a Helping Hand

The Word of God speaks in Hebrews 4:16, Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. As Christians, we are compelled by the love of God to address the needs we witness and help. The desire to help one another is an innately human one, one that we often forget to employ, sometimes due to the trials and tribulations we encounter in this life. Life’s struggles can harden us and make us lose empathy for our fellow brothers and sisters on this earthly plane. This chapter delves into a critical need – the plight of homeless veterans in the United States and the moral duty we have as Christians to support them.

As Christians, we cannot remain idle when our needs are met but must also consider the needs of others. This chapter explores the moral imperative of caring for our homeless neighbors, especially the brave men and women who have served in the United States Military, to protect the comfort we enjoy. They have earned the right to housing normalcy and therapeutic programs to treat moral injuries and PTSD caused by traumatic combat experiences.

This chapter underscores the significant role that veterans have played in securing our nation’s freedom. We delve into the necessity for homeless veterans to receive the support they rightfully deserve. Homeless
