The Spellcast Chronicles - J.N. Macawell
PART ONE :
The Pendragon Oppression
CHAPTER 1
Valador sat on top of the hill behind his house watching his little brother as his mother picked the herbs from the forest in the distance . He knew she didn't want them to tag along because of the poison bushes of berries that his little brother Merlin would find irresistible.
Merlin was a curious young boy who often got into trouble with his wandering mind and innocent intentions. Valador was the one who usually got him out of trouble and tried very hard to show him that wizards were not accepted by people outside of the small village of Kaldreael where the wizards and other magical creatures dwelt.
'Is mother going to be gone for a long?' asks Merlin.
The little child was only six and his brother was seventeen , neither of the little wizards were at the age where their power started to bloom. Valador still had a whole month before he could even Think about picking up a wand or conjuring spirits but potion work was another story. His mother had gone to gather herbs from the forest so that he could make his first potion.
NO SHE'S PICKING PLANTS so that she can show me how to make a potion!
Answers valador
Valador's mother was the wizard Queen and though they had no castle and no crown they still remained ever so humble and kind to their subjects .Not only did the wizards look up to Valador's family but so did some of the Fae, the elves and the genies of Far East.
Valador took the small string of twine that held his long curly brown hair out letting his hair fall before the only thing that would tell the humans he was a wizard, His pointed ears. although it was a common trait of the elves, Valador was born with a pair of ears that his parents often told him to hide from those who weren't of magical descent. His ears along with his light brown caramel colored skin tone and Hazel eyes made it rather hard for people to know him and merlin were related.
MERLIN UNLIKE HIS BROTHER, had a messy mop of shaggy red hair that fell before crystal blue eyes and His face was sprinkled with freckles. They both wore shirts of white linen and wool pants that cuffed their shins. Valador tucked his into his black leather boots that he shined daily.
Merlin had a small wool cloak that his mother had made for him while he played by the fire last night.
Merlin crawled into his brother's lap and moved his long brown locks of hair from in front of his ears placing it behind them . Valador hid his ears once again and looked at Merlin as tried to moved his hair again.
WHY DO YOU COVER YOUR ears all the time you need to stop doing that !
Says Merlin.
"Why little goose Laughs valador.
Because you can't hear if your hair is always covering them !
Replies Merlin .
You are a smart little goose aren't you Merlin !
Laughs valador .
The brothers often played games where they pretend to have magical battles . being the older brother of the two valador let Merlin win. Valador had made a nickname for his brother calling him little goose and Merlin called his brother Myddrin which means mighty raven in the tongue of the fae.
THAT'S EVIL WIZARD Merlin to you !
Says Merlin as he Stands up and wiggles his fingers as if he is shooting magic from his fingertips.
Valador played along with his brother Acting like the magic was hurting him lifting his hands in defeat.hr looked at his brother with eyes of false horror as he lifted his hand to his head placing the back of his palm against his forehead.
No Merlin stop, you're too strong!
Joked Valador.
Queen Virgreaof walks to the top of the hill where her children played holding the basket she had weaved just for the special occasion of gathering herbs for her first born child's first potion.
The wizard Queen was a beautiful woman with long black hair and bright green eyes from which valador took after. Her skin was like fine caramel and she dressed in a beautiful blue dress made of silk and embellished with flowers she picked by hand. She walked about barefoot so that she could feel the earth beneath her feet .She too had a pair of pointed ears just like valador because of this the rumor that the Queen was a fourth elf circulated widely among all the magical creatures .
COME BOYS LET'S GET home!
Says Queen Virgreaof .
Aww man I almost had him !
Whines Merlin.
Valador stands up brushing his pants off and lifts merlin onto his shoulders as he follows after his mother. The Queen's basket was filled with wild herbs such as ginger root , Belladonna, wolfsbane and hemlock. All very useful ingredients in Valarheyian potions.
I don't want to go home. I want to stay outside forever and ever !
Protests Merlin.
