T
he carriage rumbled along the winding road, its wheels grinding against the gravel as it made its way deeper into the heart of the Ravenwood forest. Eleanor Cromwell sat inside, her hands clenched tightly in her lap, her heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety. The journey had been long and arduous, each passing mile bringing her closer to her destination: Ravenwood Manor.
As the carriage turned a corner, the towering silhouette of the manor emerged from the dense fog, its stone walls weathered by time and neglect. Ivy crawled up its sides like a tangled web, and the windows stared out into the forest like dark, empty eyes. Eleanor's breath caught in her throat at the sight of the imposing estate, a shiver running down her spine as she realized that soon it would be hers.
The carriage came to a halt before the iron gates that marked the entrance to Ravenwood, the sound of the horses' hooves echoing through the mist-shrouded forest. Eleanor stepped out onto the gravel drive, her eyes fixed on the looming figure of the manor before her. She couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and trepidation as she gazed up at the ancient building, its secrets hidden within its walls like ghosts waiting to be set free.
The gates groaned as Eleanor pushed them open, the rusted metal protesting against the movement. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for what lay ahead, before stepping through and into the overgrown gardens of Ravenwood. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and the only sound was the distant cry of a lone raven.
