    Alpha's Love - Hayden West

    CHAPTER 1

Thayer swallowed back his rage as he strode through his gathered packmates to the room that housed Macon Forrest. One of his men and the one near death after he’d protected some of the cubs.

But it was more than that. Macon was more. As much as he would love to say it was that simple, he would be lying. There was not a single thing about Macon that was simple not now and never would be.

This was his fault. His man was lying there because he’d not been home to protect them all. Disgust and shame flooded him. He was Alpha and it was his job to keep them safe. He was a mask as he neared the room, his packmates brushed against them and he allowed physical contact with them all, allowing them the feel and touch of their alpha whose love was undying for them. And absolute.

He wasn’t a soft Alpha and his word was law, but he loved and would tear this world apart for his pack. Brushing a kiss along the cheek of his youngest pack member, he put her back on her feet and paused outside Macon’s door.

It was shut. He could feel and hear his pack near him, offering their love and support, but he wouldn’t be disturbed. Thayer walked in without knocking and pushed the door closed behind him. Their healer was taking a break and he’d informed her, he would sit with Macon until she got some rest.

He didn’t want to sit and feel as if he were helpless though, so he paced. His sharp mind worked to figure out how the men who’d gotten this man injured had managed to make it so close to the den. Safeguards were in place for this to be avoided.

The only thing he could come up with is people had failed. Him and the Pack. Assignments had to have been missed.

His fangs dropped as he growled, hands fisting.

Eyes wolf, he looked to the man lying on the bed. He marched to the end of the bed and grasped the frame, feeling the wood start to splinter beneath his grip.

Fucking wake up, Macon. He pushed every ounce of command from the Alpha to one of his subordinates into that four-word sentence.

Three heartbeats passed and he watched as the man on the bed slowly lifted his lids, exposing the deep green eyes he had. Thayer’s heart stuttered at the realization the man had obeyed him.

Alpha? He licked his lips and tried to move.

Thayer shook his head, once. Sharp. Don’t move.

He didn’t play around and there was the unyielding tone of the alpha that refused to be disobeyed. Macon settled without question or hesitation.

    The pups?

Macon’s voice was scratchy and Thayer knew it was because he’d taken more than one blow to the throat as he defended the cubs.

    Fine.

He crossed his arms and stared down at one of his lieutenants. His wolf stirred within him, normally okay to be forced to ignore his own personal need but this attack, this had been far to close. And his wolf was not the least bit shy of letting him know, he didn’t appreciate almost losing him before claiming him.

His assurance visibly relaxed Macon and he berated himself for not telling their condition immediately. Forcing himself to release the frame, he stepped back.

Thayer’s wolf raged, knowing he was about to leave. I’ll send in the healer.

Macon glared at him. I’m fine. I don’t need a healer. I need my bed.

That brought Thayer up short. "You just woke up. You will stay in this bed until she clears you."

I’m not a lieutenant to just sit around on my ass. His words were sharp and Macon sat up, the blankets that had been around his chest pooling over his lap.

Stay there, he rumbled, fighting the urge to put his hands on Macon and make him do just that.

Problem was, if he touched him, he wasn’t sure he would be able to stop. Ever.

He wasn’t sure of his relationship status. They’d never discussed it, to be fair, Thayer didn’t talk about it to anyone. His own sexual need was dealt with by himself, he allowed the touch of his Pack to soothe that need, but the sexual one, it was nothing but dreams and fantasies. Ever since he knew who was his mate, he’d refused to dishonor him.

    I’m going to my post.

Fed up, Thayer glided to his side and growled
