Nurse the Purse

The day my purse met its watery doom was one that caught me off guard. It was a day like any other, except I had my brand-new, designer purse. The one I’d hinted at for a year, the one that was way out of our budget. My husband Jim had saved for months to surprise me with it for Valentine's Day. And now, here it was, mine at last, hanging off my shoulder like a badge of honor.

My daughter and I were at the mall, when nature called. I stepped into the restroom stall and set my purse on the back of the toilet. Before I could sit down my phone rang. Scrambling to answer, my beloved purse plunged into the uncharted waters of the public toilet. I lunged forward, my heart sinking faster than my purse, and scooped it out of the water. Water cascaded out of it like a miniature waterfall, soaking everything inside.

With my daughter's help, I dried my purse off as best as I could with paper towels. We finished shopping, and I tried to forget
