    1.1 History of Bangkok

    Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, has a rich and fascinating history that dates back centuries. Originally a small trading post during the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 15th century, it gradually grew in importance and became the capital of Siam (the former name of Thailand) in 1767.

    One significant event in Bangkok's history was the fall of Ayutthaya to the Burmese army in 1767.

    The Siamese people, led by General Taksin, regrouped and established Thonburi as their new capital on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River. However, it was King Rama I who moved the capital across the river to its present location and renamed it Krung Thep, which means City of Angels. The full name of Bangkok is actually much longer and holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest place name in the world.

    During King Rama I's reign, he ordered the construction of many important landmarks that still stand today. One such landmark is Wat Phra Kaew, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This temple
