Chapter 1
Andrew’s Death
Elena: Can I come in? maybe we can have a conversation.
Elena asked as tears streamed down her face, she was scared and in refusal to accept what she just heard from Andrew’s dad.
Andrew’s dad: Yeah… yeah, we need to have a conversation.
Elena walked inside as his dad lead her the way to the dining table although she was no stranger to this house.
Elena: It can’t be, we go to the same school, we hang out, we talk. He can’t be dead.
She whispered the last few words of her statement in disbelieve. The guy she liked, the guy who was there for her when she needed comfort was dead. She almost felt like her entire life was nothing but a lie playing in front of her eyes.
Andrew’s dad: My wife, his mother left us due to our divorce when Andrew was just eleven. My child took it too hard; I mean what kid would not? Having to grow up without your mother is just terrible especially when he had so many memories with her. Andrew got influenced by drugs, he used to say they took the pain away if not the memories of her face. He overdosed and… died. Before his death we had no clue he had been on drugs. He was good at hiding it.
Elena: I am sorry I am making you say these things out loud, but it’s something we need to discuss.
He hummed in response. Elena was so disturbed by the sight of him trying his hardest to hold back is tears. She could understand the strength and the pain it took to do that.
Elena: It’s just you and josh now?
He let out a light chuckle with a faint smile before responding.
Andrew’s dad: You know about josh… Andrew was a twin; I have josh and Adrian both. I talk to my wife sometimes but not often.
Elena: Why did you two get separated?
Andrew’s dad: When josh was born, we had to go through a rough patch. Paying for three kids and my wife as she was financially dependent on me was hard. I didn’t have enough to pay the bills or to get three meals for my family every day. I had to work two jobs to make it all work. My wife could not work she had to look after josh, he was still a baby. We could not give each other enough time; trust was difficult between us two due to lack of communication… she wanted to be her own person and be free and I let her have that choice. I got the custody because she wasn’t earning yet.
Elena got up and got a glass of water from the kitchen, hoping it would comfort him a little.
Elena: You have hustled a lot, raising three kids on your own is not easy. Look… I don’t know who I have been with if Andrew is dead. I can’t accept this truth; it doesn’t even make sense when I have seen him with my own eyes. I have a photo of him on my phone, maybe you can see it once?
Andrew’s dad: Let me have a look.
Elena showed him a picture of Andrew that she clicked when they were at the dance.
Andrew’s dad: I don’t think you’re in the right headspace Elena. That is Adrian in the photo I remember him wearing that suit on the school dance.
Elena: If he was Adrian, why would he introduce himself as Andrew to me?
Andrew’s father: Andrew is dead!
He spoke as he got furious.
Elena: I will look into the situation myself. Thank you for telling me your past.
She left the house scared by his harsh tone and went back to her home. Andrew’s father was too stunned to accept the possibility of him being alive nor was Elena in a condition to accept the possibility of Andrew being dead. The question is who is true over here?
Chapter 2
Los Angeles
Andrew was anticipatingly driving in the direction of Los Angles to that old lady which Elena had showed to him. Andrew was stunned she found that photo in an abandoned house. Turns out Elena had a bigger role in his life than he had expected. Elena wasn’t just some girl he was falling for, she had a connection to Andrew’s family, of course he was extremely curious to know all about it. The last thing which he expected was for Elena to have a link with his maternal grandmother, that means Andrew was one step closer in finding his mother. Andrew grabbed this opportunity. Andrew sure didn’t have a great bond with his mother but he was deep down still a child who craved affection.
Since the dance he had been distant from Elena. He had been putting all the pieces of this puzzle together and making sure that old lady was his grandmother and that his mother lives with her in Los Angles by collecting factual information.
Andrew was well aware that Elena had a conversation with his father and she was exposed to the fact of him being dead.
While driving all Andrew could think was how to calm her down from this shocking news that she received of his death. He also had to figure out how to keep his lifeline; Elena protected.
One way to figure out how to keep Elena safe was, that he could ask his grandmother and learn more as she had dedicated her life to learning the behaviour and purposes of spirits. Of course, Andrew would understand well as he was technically a spirit himself.
As he entered the city of Los Angles his childhood memories strike him one by one. He remembered how his grandmother always use to read him ghost stories before bed, on every Halloween she used to surprise him dressed like a witch while holding several horror movie cassettes in her hand waiting for Andrew and his brother Adrian to choose one. Well, that ghost obsession turned out…
