    Chapter 1: Step Family

My name is Christopher, and I am an only child whose parents divorced while I was still in middle school. My father’s name is Richard -I called him Dick- because he and my mom fought a lot, and usually, it was his fault. My mom could be bitchy, but when they divorced, I blamed him.

And given a choice, I preferred to live with her.

A few years later, I heard my dad was getting remarried. His wife’s name was Tish, and she worked as a temp at the same office where my dad worked. That’s how they met. I knew nothing about her except that she had a daughter from a previous marriage named Lora.

I didn’t attend his wedding, even though my mom and I were invited. I never understood why exes were invited to weddings. I wouldn’t go, but my mom insisted on going with her new boyfriend.

I heard Tish, my dad’s new wife was very beautiful and younger than my mom. So, she came back both envious and depressed. A short time later, I got in some trouble at school. My mother was informed that I had been using drugs and alcohol. Now
