About this ebook

Often as believers, our awareness of who and what we are not is much stronger than our awareness of who and what we are in Christ Jesus. The truth is, as believers, we are new creations! Our Heavenly Father desires that His children walk in the realities of this marvelous mystery; living in the fullness of the new life that Jesus has given to us. He desires that our hearts would so deeply grasp the reality of who we are in Christ that the way we think, speak and act would testify of our true position before God. We are much more than just sinners saved by grace, and we were created for much more than simply making it through life! As new creations in Christ Jesus, we have the potential to live as a brand new person – righteous, accepted, lavished with love, and empowered to obey God and partner with Him in good works.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

    ––––––––

Thank you to my wife Chani and our children Hannah, Samuel, and Stephen for letting me turn our living room into an office so that I could finish writing this book. Thank you to my wife Chani for your gracious help in editing the manuscript.

I want to especially thank Pastor John Carter for graciously allowing me to include a chapter from his book, The Transformed Life. This book can be purchased from Harrison House Publishers at www.harrisonhouse.com.

I want to thank contributing authors Peggy Kennedy, and Jennifer Dean as well as Matt Sorger who provided the material for Chapter 2: Your Spiritual DNA (The Regeneration Factor).

Thank you to Pastor Cathy Ciaramitaro, Sharon Witton, Bill Prankard, Dr. Harrison Mungal, Barry Maracle, and Jim Beaulne for sharing their testimonies.

Thank you to Ena Peck for reviewing and editing the manuscript.

Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank Jesus for His grace, His anointing, His ability, and sending Holy Spirit to be our Helper (see 2 Peter 1:3-4 and John 14:26). By His power, He has given to us everything we need. By His Promises, we become partakers of His divine nature.

He has given us a brand new, fresh start. There is always a future and a hope in Jesus. "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT). There is a roadmap; the Bible. There is a Person who helps us with the roadmap; He is Holy Spirit. There is no greater helper in the whole world.

Let me pray for you as we begin this journey:

I pray according to Ephesians 1:17-19, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power in Jesus name. Amen.

We have to know who we are so we can become all He has dreamt we could be. – Stacey Campbell

We are not saved by good works; we are saved for good works (see Ephesians 2:9-10). God has a purpose for us. God has a plan for us...

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10, emphasis added).

    FOREWORD

When a person is fully aware of all that Christ has accomplished on the Cross, of the depth of love that the Father has for His children, and of the incredible power available to each and every one of us through the Holy Spirit, life becomes very exciting. Miracles become commonplace. True communion with God - where we talk to Him and He talks back - occurs. Relationships are rich and lasting, forgiveness is possible, and overcoming obstacles is a way of life. Fresh Start is a book that plumbs the depths of the Bible to show us what we have access to as children of God. It will change the way you think about yourself, about your circumstances, and opens you to the realm of possibilities that are available to us as Christians.

Do you feel that somewhere along the way you have stopped growing in your relationship with God? Like there was a day when you were experiencing many kingdom realities in your own life, but at some point, you stalled out? Brent Sloss has given you tools in this great book to help you hit a reset button. In Jesus, you always have a future and a hope.

Are you ready to walk in the fullness of new life in Christ? Perhaps you are just beginning the journey. What a great book to read as you start out. Or you can read it as an invitation to continue the journey. It will help you to keep moving forward.

It is an honour for me to commend this book—and its author—to you.

    PREFACE

    ––––––––

Don’t give up! When a baby is going to be born, they go from a comfortable place in the womb and pass through a birth canal. They go from being in a comfortable place into a very uncomfortable place, full of pressure (birth canal), before they once again move into a much larger place (the world). They are welcomed into a family.

It is the same when we are born again in the presence of God, by the presence of God, and for the presence of God. We are created by Him, through Him, and for Him (see Romans 11:36).

Generally, the womb is a safe place and at the right timing, we are pushed out of there through pressure. Our mother is the one who helps us with the birth process. In our journey with Jesus, being born again, the Holy Spirit is the One who helps us in the process, who enables us to be born again (Romans 8:11).

We move from darkness to light. It is just like the conception of a baby. At the moment of conception, a new baby is conceived and then, the baby begins to grow. Then, the baby is born, welcomed into a family, and the child continues to grow.

It is the same way when we are born again. The Holy Spirit is brooding over our lives in darkness and, then the Word of God is spoken over us and shared with us, and we receive it, we are made alive by the Spirit of God. We are born again. This Gospel is hidden from us until it is revealed to us (see 2 Corinthians 4:3-4). Jesus said in John 3:6-7, That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

We can see a picture of this at creation. It is the perfect illustration. There was darkness upon the face of the earth. The Holy Spirit was brooding over the face of the deep preparing and creating potential. Then God said, let there be light and there was light. And, the seven day process of creation began (see Genesis 1).

When we are born again, this happens in a moment. It happens when the Word of God is shared with us and we believe it and receive Jesus into our hearts. This is the biggest fresh start when we are born again. However, during our lives, we go through a process, sometimes it is a painful one, in becoming like Jesus. We are transformed into His image, by the Spirit of God (see Romans 8:29 and 2 Corinthians 3:17-18). He reveals His Word to us and heals us.

We are born again in an instant and being like Jesus is a process. Holy Spirit is essential to being born again. Holy Spirit is essential to being like Jesus.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it (Psalm 139:13-14, NLT).

No one knows what you will look like when you are in the womb. You are being formed and fashioned. At the right time, pressure pushes you through a process. You move from a comfortable place, through a painful place and, then into a much larger place. It is a much larger place then when you first began. Is it a safe place? You are welcomed into a family. It is a safe place. It is not perfect.

When you are born again you enter a kingdom, and you are welcomed into a family. The family of God. It is the church. It is not a perfect place. It is however a place where you are welcomed into the family of God. It is essential for life.

Are you ready to start the process? First of all, to start the process, let me ask you a question. Do you know Jesus? Then, you have to ask yourself the question. Do I know Jesus? (see 2 Corinthians 13:5). This is how you start the process. You are welcomed into the family of God by being born again and receiving Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. How? You believe He died on the cross for your sins and that He rose again that you might have eternal life. You declare He is Lord. Are you ready to declare He is Lord? Let’s declare that He is Lord that He has risen from the dead and He is Lord. Let’s pray the following prayer:

Dear Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I repent of my sins and I ask you for Your forgiveness. Thank You for forgiving me. Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord. I believe, Jesus, that God raised You from the dead that I might have eternal life. I want to be born again. Please come into my heart and cleanse me from all my sins. I want to be a new person. I surrender my life to You. Thank You loving me and dying on the Cross for my sins. Thank You for saving me. Please fill me with your precious Holy Spirit. And, I pray all these things in Jesus name.

Welcome to the family of God. Let’s begin the journey!

What about the process of being more like Christ? Let the Word of God form and fashion you. Develop a relationship with Holy Spirit. He is your helper. He is essential to being like Jesus. Be a part of a family in a local church. My prayer for you is 2 Corinthians 13:14, The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
