Preface
Unity within ourselves and between others is the fundamental principle of Zen. The interconnectedness of all life is the spiritual basis of our existence in the here and now. I used the Buddha in Blue Jeans
metaphor to illustrate our shared existence. What could be more universal than blue jeans?
I wrote Buddha in Blue Jeans for awakening mindfulness and the Buddha you are. I aimed my arrows toward a Zen spirituality of authenticity and wholeness.
By writing in a contemplative and poetic style, I hope to make Zen insight understandable to people from all backgrounds and abilities. I address readers using a familiar you
voice to create a feeling of sitting on their grandfather's knee while listening to a story.
Although you are already a Buddha—a sneaky Zen way of saying your transcendental nature is always present— it seems to take a heap of contemplation to return to our essence.
Wishing you the joys of contemplation,
Tai Sheridan
