    Chapter 1

    The Meeting

Upon Mountain Olympus, the king of the gods, Zeus, ordered the Greek pantheon to the throne room. His posture was slouched over on the throne chair while his blue eyes rested on the entrance while the gods and goddesses enter one after the other. He pressed on the armrests and stood upright, revealing his muscular frame that was covered in blue Greek-like armor, shining like thunder. He took the steps down to address those whom he rules over.

We have a problem, and no one in this room sees it besides me. His voice rumbled like thunder. They have forgotten about us and the blessings we freely give them. They have to be reminded of who they are supposed to worship.

After his echoing voice, silence was next in line. Zeus, being the king, got frustrated with his cohorts.

Does not one wish to speak?

A goddess stepped forward to respond to her father. Her hair hung down her back, tied in a nice ponytail. She was muscular for a woman, and unlike the rest of the other goddesses, she stood out by wearing gold armor that shone golden bright. Her name was Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. She knew approaching Zeus might have a backlash, but thankfully for her, she was his favorite child. May I speak? she asked in confidence.

Zeus did not say a word but moved his right hand forward to give confirmation that she has the floor.

Thank you. I do not think humans have forgotten us. I think they have just moved on. This current time of technology and wonder leaves them wanting more knowledge. I think the wisest choice would be to let them be. They have their freedom to do so.

Zeus scoffed as he turned his back on his daughter. We have watched over them long enough. They must be punished for forgetting their purpose.

Athena shook her head as she sighed. Father, their purpose is freedom. We as gods made a vow that we will rule differently from the Titans. We cannot turn into what you and your siblings have imprisoned.

Zeus held his hand in front of Athena.

You are always about the nice things, dear sister. With all your wisdom, you should know that not everything can be spring and sunshine. There has to be a bit of chaos. The voice of Eris was soft yet raspy. Being the goddess of chaos and discord, she envied Athena's skills and power. She walked past Athena and bowed slightly to Zeus. Father, I'll cause chaos on the world that will beg them for help from the gods. Just say the word, I will do so. Her crimson-red eyes looked back over her shoulder at Athena, who was clinching her spear.

Eris bowed again in her pitch-black dress that hugged her hips. The bottom of her dress moved like shadows, and at the right shoulder, a gold coin shaped like an apple held the dress together with one sleeve. Her skin was pale brown like gwardar or western brown snake, and on her back was her black wings that were also as black as a raven. Her dark-purple hair was rested on her right wing. Athena stepped forward once more and turned Eris around by her shoulder.

What you are is Ares's chariot rider. Know your place, Eris.

The sisters eyed each other down until Zeus interfered and stepped between them.

Enough. He looked toward Athena with frustration. I always give ear to your wise words, daughter, but not today. They must be reminded of us, and the only way to do that is for destruction to occur.

The words of Zeus worried Athena, and she responded with care, Say you do that. Say we all do that. What would happen then? They will hate us, Father, not ask us for guidance. Then it could potentially kill the human race. Can you live with another extinction?

Zeus was taking in Athena's reasoning until his thoughts were interrupted. A tall, muscular god stepped forth. The skirt wrapped in chain mail echoed through the throne hall. His armor was black like a Grecian vase with crimson-red trimming around the breastplate, leggings, gauntlets, and helmet.

Maybe an extinction is what is needed, Athena. The voice of Ares boomed in a deep voice like a roaring lion. But Athena saw behind his lust for blood; he wishes for war to power himself. Though he is the same height as his father, he isn't nearly as broad and muscular. He bowed and continued to speak. Athena has no room to speak. Did you not transform Medusa into a Gorgon for being raped in your temple? Ares nudged his head to his uncle, Poseidon, who stared him down. Did you not ruin Arachne by turning her into the first spider out of envy? You act like the perfect goddess, but let's be clear, you have your faults, Sister. He turned to face Athena. You have no room to question our father.

Athena pointed the tip of her spear toward Ares. Now you're bold after fearing me for these millennia.

Poseidon stepped forward, clanged his trident to his niece's spear that is spread out. The sea god as well was clad in blue armor like his brother, but it was more of an oceanic color. No need to fight. Poseidon's voice was soft but deep like the sea.

A yawn was heard on the throne chair next to Zeus'. He turned to see his wife, Hera, sitting on her throne. This bores me. I'm going to bed. Go ahead and have your squabble. I don't care. She stood up and began to walk out of the throne hall.

Hera! Zeus said in such anger that some of the gods were startled.

She stopped in her tracks and slowly turned her head to look at her husband.

You will stay. That is a command from your king. Thunder rumbled above them in Zeus' anger.

Poseidon looked up and waved his trident clearing the thick clouds. He placed his hand on his brother's shoulder. Zeus, let her go. We can continue this tomorrow.

Zeus primarily listened to three other gods—Athena, because she was his favorite child; Poseidon, because he is second to him in strength and power; and Hephaestus, because of his brilliance of weaponry—but today was not the day that he would listen to anyone. No. A decision must be made now. He turned to look at the gods before him. I have tried to talk this out with all of you. Since we cannot come to an agreement, I will make it. We will destroy half of the mortals, and they will remember us again. Anyone who is against my judgement will meet the same fate. He waved his hand for them to leave as he returned to his throne.

Hera, dressed in a gorgeous gown that slides on the floor, shook her head at Zeus and traveled to the bedroom.

Athena was distraught about the decision of her father. All night, she couldn't sleep; she couldn't just give up on the human race. Her light silver gray optics shifted down in sadness while the wind danced on her gown.

Athena. She heard a rival's voice. She turned herself on the balcony to see the sea god, Poseidon. Surprised to see you, she said. She then placed her hands back on the edge of the balcony and sighed while she looked up at the stars.

Poseidon leaned over with his forearms resting on the balcony. Zeus has gone insane. He continued. I care for my waters. Zeus will do more harm to my seas than humans would if he were to have his way, like the flood—for example, a bunch of dead bodies floating and sinking in my oceans. He paused. That's why if you decide to do go against him, I will help.

Athena's head quickly turned in shock that Poseidon would offer his help for her. She lowered her head and shook it, then afterward, she looked back up to the stars. There was a time when people stood up to us gods. There was a time when people told us no. But because they have forgotten us, none will retaliate.

Poseidon nodded in agreement, and Athena continued. The gods—I don't know who is with us or who will be against us. Most, if not all, fear Zeus. We can't defeat them alone, Uncle.

Poseidon stood up to show respect to Athena. What do you have in mind?

She had to think of something in all her wisdom on how to defeat the gods.

I have an idea, but it will be risky.

Poseidon folded his arms and responded, I'm listening.

    Chapter 2

    Where the Line Is Drawn

Within the heavens was the home of the gods—Olympus. Zeus declared that no one could leave without his permission, but being wary of his anger, Athena knew she could not ask such a question during this time. She had to escape. The goddess of wisdom gazed out in the cosmic beauty. Poseidon rested his trident on his shoulder as he appeared to her.

    Niece? he asked in concern.

She, who had a muscular frame, turned to face her uncle. I'm okay, Poseidon. I need to find a way out of Olympus. I know my father will not oblige to anyone of us leaving. She stepped away from Poseidon as she rubbed her chin in thought.

Poseidon took a couple of steps forward toward Athena. I think I can persuade Zeus to let me leave.

Athena looked over her shoulder. How?

Poseidon rested his hands in front of his pelvis. From king to king, he will come to reason to why I need to be at Atlantis. If I do not return until morning, it means he allowed me to leave.

Athena nodded. Okay, that seems like the best option.

I will be at Atlantis' steps by dawn. If I am not there, that's a sign I'm still here.

An owl sounded at Athena's window while her candlelight slightly brightened. The owl flew inside above their heads and turned in midair. As it did, the feet of a goddess landed on the floors of the room. Her hair was black like a panther's fur; her armor shone like the moon; her clothing was the color of forest leaves. Upon her back was her bow and arrow, and her helmet was the shape of moon crescent. Her eyes were grayish like the surface of the moon. From the light of the candle, a godly figure took form. His armor glowed, lighting up his sister's room as solar flames danced within his armor, and upon his head was a crown like rays of the sun, and his hues where bright like a yellow gemstone. Their skin was a complexion like that of an onyx stone. The twin brother and sister made their presence known—Artemis, goddess of the hunt and moon and Apollo, god of the sun.

Artemis nodded her head toward Athena. Sister. Her attention then shifted to Poseidon. Uncle.

Athena hugged her siblings simultaneously. Artemis, Apollo.

They released their grip from one another, and the hunting goddess responded, Knowing you, you seem to have a plan to stop Zeus.

Athena nodded her head a few times. That I do.

Apollo folded his arms over his chest. Poseidon, surprised to see you here given your history with our sister.

Poseidon chuckled a bit. We have the same goal for now. You're usually doing Zeus' bidding, so forgive me if I am reluctant to not trust you, Apollo. Poseidon purposely left out Artemis knowing her character.

Apollo dropped his arms with a small smile. I assure you, Uncle Poseidon, I am here to help as is Artemis.

Poseidon smirked. I don't know that.

Apollo quickly responded, Athena does. Otherwise, she wouldn't have embraced me. After his words, he gave a small chuckle.

Athena placed her right palm on Poseidon's right shoulder from behind. Trust me, Uncle. I can sense when someone is not pure in their actions. A curse for being wise and whatnot.

Poseidon rolled his ocean-blue eyes. So what now, asked the sea god.

We need to make a plan. Zeus has all three of the hundred-handers guarding Olympus. They helped defeat the Titans, so we have to recognize they are a major threat, said Apollo.

Two at the gate, one at the Center Hall, Artemis added on to her brother's words.

    *****

Athena sat down at the edge of her bed deep in thought of how to get past the hundred-handers.

Meanwhile, heavy breathing can be heard from the massive room of Zeus and Hera. Her slight fingers pressed against his neck as he penetrated her inside, giving into their desire to please each other. Hera screamed in pleasure, and Zeus had his release, finishing their passionate intercourse. The god of the sky rolled off his wife, and Hera pressed her head under his neck.

    I love you, said Hera.

Zeus curled his muscular arm around his wife and kissed her forehead. I needed that. Zeus laughed a bit.

Hera sat up and got off their bed. She would snap her fingers and a robe the colors of a peacock's tail would appear, hugging her frame.

Zeus shifted to his side to look at his wife as he rested his cheekbone on his fist. Was there something I said? he asked sarcastically.

The queen of the gods would look over her shoulder and free her long braid from the robe's grasp. Nothing, Zeus, nothing. She then walked unto the balcony and waved her hands for a glass to appear full of Dionysus' wine.

Zeus walked behind her and rubbed her arms downward, but she moved her shoulders to force his hands to leave her silky skin. Zeus sighed heavily. What is it this time?

Hera shook her head at the question and brought the edge of the cup to her lips. She took a sip enjoying the wine traveling down her throat.

    Hera—

She turned around and looked toward Zeus. I said I love you, Zeus, and all you can say was ‘I needed that?' She placed the cup down on the edge of the balcony. I am your queen. I am the gods' queen, and all I am to you is a good lay? In all through these millennia, from all the things you put me through, and I am still by your side. The least you can do is respond kindly and say that you love me too.

Zeus sighed and nodded. I love you, Hera. You know that. My mind is busy with what needs to be done.

Hera smirked. Have you even questioned your actions?

Zeus shook his head with a sly laugh. No one will heed my reason, Hera.

She folded her arms under her breasts. What of the wisdom that you lost?

Zeus frowned in annoyance of how she portrayed his most favored child. Athena? No, she will not hear my words. She was the one who defied my command in the first— He stopped speaking as his thoughts took over. Suddenly, in a streak of a lightning bolt, the king of Olympus disappeared.

Zeus slammed through Athena's room, and she was startled by his appearance.

She sat up on her bed and looked toward her father. Father, what are you doing here?

Zeus did not have an answer for his daughter. He walked in and sat at the corner of her bed, his strong back facing her. Athena, I need to know that you are on my side. He leaned forward resting his forearms on his thigh muscles and curling his fingers together. All the gods know that you are my most favored child to be heir to the throne.

Athena didn't say a word but just listened to what the king had to say.

I know when I made my decision, you were against my surety. But if they see the goddess of wisdom on my side, they will know I am doing the right thing to ensure Olympus is absolute. He placed his left hand on her leg. If anyone were to rebel against my rule, the obvious guess would be you. He sighed as he lowered his head and looked toward Athena. If you are planning anything…anything at all, I am telling you to not go with it. The last thing we need is an all-out war on Olympus.

Athena placed her hand on Zeus' and nodded her head. I understand, Father. Though I disagree with your methods, I will stand by you, for you are my king and for the greatness of our home, Olympus.

Zeus patted her leg and stood upright. Good night. Just as he appeared to her, he left the same way with a screeching lightning bolt.

Athena slowly laid back down and sighed placing her palms over her face.

    *****

Poseidon approached his younger brother. The bunt of his trident hit the steps of the throne.

Zeus was in thought, figuring out who might be against his authority, but his brother got his attention, and he calmly turned his head from his knuckles, where his jawline was resting on. Poseidon. He spoke.

The sea god took another step and kept his presence on the second and last step of the throne of Zeus. I request my leave of the heavens.

Zeus frowned a bit but not in anger but of interest. Continue.

Poseidon nodded his head. You are king here, but elsewhere I am king. I have a duty to uphold to the people of Atlantis. I must return there to ensure the seas are under control.

Zeus rested his right forearm on the armrest and responded, I commanded everyone to stay on Olympus until I deem otherwise. I'm sure Amphitrite or Triton can take care of the seas.

Poseidon sighed heavily. Brother, it's not about that. It is because I am king.

Zeus slammed his right fist on his throne, and Poseidon narrowed his eyes in a frown. "You may be the king of the seas, but I am king of the gods, which you fall under! And you will obey my authority."

Poseidon gripped his trident in a firmer grasp. Brother if— Poseidon was interrupted.

Tread carefully on your next words, Poseidon. He looked at Zeus as serious as if facing against the Titans.

Choose my words carefully? Let's not forget how you have gotten your power.

Zeus' eyes lit up like a lightning strike.

I saved you, Hades, and our sisters, Poseidon rudely responded, smirking.

Though you did, you tricked Hades into drawing the short stick. Zeus sat up and took one powerful step that shook the core of Olympus as he got into Poseidon's face. Imagine if Cronus was ruler and you had to be somewhere to ensure your kingship, wouldn't you want to be there for those who look to you to protect them? Zeus lowered his eyes, looking to the side. He glared at Poseidon's once more. Go but you are to stay in Atlantis.

Poseidon nodded his head once. Thank you, Brother. Poseidon hit his trident on the step, and in a whirl of water he vanished.

    *****

Olympus was quiet, and the hundred-handers kept everyone nervous. They stood tall the size of a mountain; their frame was pure muscle and as thick as a mountainside. Six arms resided on their frames, but the rest of their arms floated like a gravitational pull around them from the waist up.

Artemis flew through the heavens through the clouds. She perched on Athena's window once again as she stayed in her owl form. Poseidon was right. He just left Olympus.

Athena nodded with assurance. Give it some time, at least two hours tops. If we move now, he will know of our plan.

Artemis nodded and flew out the window. Athena couldn't sleep since Zeus entered her chambers. She walked within Olympus and eyed a certain goddess who can help her on her quest to leave Olympus. Athena looked on at her aunt, Hestia, as she worked on the garden of Demeter, feeding the many flowers. She was clothed in a white Greek robe, and her brunette hair was straight down. Upon her head was a crown shaped like a golden log and flames danced upon it, and her middle-age features were beautiful. Athena was still in thought whether or not to address Hestia until she heard a voice of another goddess.

Till this day, she still loves to attend to my garden.

Athena was a bit startled and looked over her shoulder seeing another goddess of the first great six. The goddess wore a gorgeous gown that draped to the floor in harvest green, and over her breasts was a sash with the color of wheat. Her hair went to her shoulders and had a brown color like leaf in the fall. Her crown was different from her clothing. On both sides of her head, the crown came down like a book, and in the center was a golden leaf. Athena lowered her head in respect to Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, agriculture, and sacred law. She walked to Athena's side, and they watched as Hestia continued to hum while working on the flower of Demeter. Next to the garden was a fireplace also known as a hearth. Inside rested a kettle with heated water. They spoke while their pupils were fixed on their fellow goddess' action as she prepared tea.

Strange seeing you at this time of night. Why are you out so late? Demeter asked.

Athena inhaled the air and released it from her lungs, giving a heavy sigh. Demeter.

The goddess of the harvest looked toward her niece. It is my job to know when something is out of place. I don't agree with Zeus either, but we have our duties.

Athena shook her head. I know. I just can't let this happen. If I can prevent it, I will.

Demeter looked back at Hestia. Well, you technically didn't break any laws, and you technically didn't tell me what you were doing. So you technically still have Zeus' trust, she said with a small smile.

Athena shifted her head to look at her aunt Demeter. Are you usually roaming the grounds of Olympus at this time?

Demeter sighed. Usually, Hestia makes her tea, while I tend to my garden. It's how we bond together.

Athena and Demeter walked inside. Athena noticed the beautiful garden room with many kinds of flowers. She inhaled the air to smell the soft aroma of her aunt's garden.

Hestia looked up toward the coming company, and her fingers left the kettle's handle. Her smile nearly lit up the garden like the sun. Demeter, took you long enough, she jokingly said. She eyed Athena. Niece, it's always good to be in your wise council.

Athena sat next to Hestia as Demeter began to tend to her garden. For all these eons, I didn't know you two had a bond like this.

Hestia smiled at Athena's words. Yeah, ever since the defeat of the Titans, Demeter and I have always been close. But it's strange seeing you around. Demeter was cutting off branches from certain small trees and flowers. It caught Athena's attention as she was responding to Hestia. Well, Zeus visited me in my chambers about an hour ago.

Demeter and Hestia quickly turned their heads with a look of fright. Demeter's scissors snapped a branch that was not meant to snap, and her voice echoed through her garden. What?

Athena rubbed the back of her head. He just wanted to ask me a question.

Hestia placed her right palm at the center of her chest. Oh, thank Gaea, said Hestia in a voice of relief.

What exactly happened? asked Demeter as Hestia made all three goddesses a cup of tea.

He appeared in my room and wondered if I was still on his side or not. Athena leaned forward and continued to explain the encounter with Zeus. I lied to him. I lied to his face. I can't see how doing mass extinction is the most reasonable outcome.

Hestia nodded in agreement and handed Athena her cup.

Athena looked toward Hestia and Demeter as she stood up and took a sip of the sweet tea made by her aunt. He suspects something. I feel guilty for asking this of you two, but—

Hestia knew that Athena had a plan because of her wise nature. From the meeting everyone expected you to defy Zeus. He knows it's coming. He knows eventually you or someone else will retaliate. But, niece, rest assured he is most likely expecting you.

Athena placed her hands on her hips and turned around to face her aunts. I know, Hestia. I know.

Demeter took a few steps to Athena, sipping her tea, and chimed in, Then you know that if Hestia and I interfere in your quest to leave Olympus, we would put ourselves in jeopardy.

In a form of an eagle, Apollo flew inside their garden. Athena flicked her wrists, and her sword and shield appeared. Hestia got behind Athena as Demeter lengthened the branches of her garden. The eagle landed on the floor and took the shape of the god Apollo.

Not necessarily, he said to Demeter. My sister and I will take the blame.

Athena's weapons disappeared, and she walked toward Apollo. Apollo, I—

He placed his hand on her shoulder. Athena, you know whether we succeed or fail that this will not end well. You heard Hestia. Zeus knows something is going to happen. It's best Artemis and I take the fall in your aid.

Demeter shook her head in a look of concern. Apollo, that is not necessary. We can—

Apollo responded as he kindly interrupted, Demeter, Artemis and I already prepared for the punishment. We must rest until dawn once all this goes down.

Hestia shook her head with a laugh. By the way, it wasn't nice of you to come in a form of an eagle.

Apollo chuckled with Hestia, and they shared a hug.

Thank you, Apollo. I know that Zeus will not be merciful, but I can't let you, nor Artemis do this.

Apollo shook his head. Our minds are made up, dear Hestia. He looked to Athena as he let go of the hips of his aunt. What of Hephaestus?

Athena shrugged her shoulders. I haven't talked to him yet. His loyalty to Zeus is nearly immeasurable.

Apollo responded kindly, True, but you know how much the forge god adores you. We must know where all the gods lie, well, those whom we don't know for sure where they stand in all this.

Athena patted Apollo's shoulder. I shall go see where he stands.

Apollo placed his arm in front of Athena to stop her. Be wary. Zeus is watching everything. He nudged his head at the eagle and hundred-hander on top of the tower.

Athena nodded her head and looked toward Demeter. Can you help me slip through the cracks? Afterward, Athena transformed into a black widow spider.

Demeter knelt and placed Athena on her hand. She moved Athena on a small thin branch and began to lengthen it with Athena crawling on it as it became longer and longer. The thin branch slipped through the cracks to Hephaestus' domain inside the mountain of Olympus. Athena made it inside on the wall. She can feel the heat from the fire that sustained the smith god's machinery. The eight eyes of Athena looked at the god as he stuck a sword in the fire.

Hephaestus' posture was broad and wide. His waist was powerful like a boulder, and his arms were as muscular as bulls. He didn't wear much armor like the rest of the gods. Only piece that he had was an armored chest plate the color of burnt charcoal. His right leg was limp, but nonetheless, he stood tall as he worked on his craftsmanship.

Athena crawled to the table and stood on the edge of it and waited for Hephaestus to turn after he cooled down the sword made of steel. He finally turned and placed the sword onto the table and noticed the goddess of wisdom in her spider form. He looked up toward the heavens and back at Athena. He transformed suddenly into a rhinoceros beetle and crawled up the leg of the table and stood in front of Athena in her black widow presence. What brings you to my flames, Bright Eyed? His voice was like two rocks creating a spark.

I need to know where you lie in this debacle. Hephaestus turned his head to the side, and Athena continued. I know we haven't spoken in a while, but—

He sharply looked toward Athena and responded, Are you going to bring that up?

Athena lifted on her front legs. No, I am not. I'm just trying to explain that our past shouldn't define if we can agree or not.

The smiths god didn't say anything but thought of the moment in their past.

Hephaestus, I am telling you that I favor your help.

He looked toward her and sighed heavily. I was drunk, angry, irritated. Aphrodite… He lowered his head and shook it. He looked toward Athena. I can't betray Zeus. When Hera didn't want me, he let me stay here. He is like a father to me, and you know that.

Silence was between them, and Hephaestus saw Athena's reaction to his answer and softly sighed. I also don't have to tell him that you visited me.

Athena nodded her head toward him, spun a web to go to the crack on the wall that she came out of. Thank you, Hephaestus. Athena gave a nod of respect and turned for her hide to face the god of forges.

What will you do now? he asked.

Athena looked toward Hephaestus. Investigate. I know for certain some deities of the pantheon are on Zeus' side like Ares and Eris, for example. Hermes, I was thinking of speaking with, but I'm not sure that's a good idea, and he'll just speed his way to Zeus and tell him what I'm planning. As for Dionysus and Aphrodite, I'm not sure of, so I will give them my council and see where they lie.

Hephaestus jumped off the table and, in midair, transformed into his husky normal state. He picked up Athena in his hand and placed her on the crack of the wall near the crack that she came out. If anyone can reason with Zeus, it's you.

She smiled at his words and continued. Thank you, forge god. She then crawled back into the crack and back on the floor of Olympus. The heavens were still calm, but every deity was still on edge. Because of the commandment of Zeus, some tension needed to be released. Athena traveled in her black-widow form toward the chambers of Aphrodite. Though she didn't want to, she felt she needed to question her sister. She slipped under the door, and her eight optics saw something she did not want to see.

The bed squeaked, and the aroma of lustful desire fill the room. Aphrodite cupped the hands of the palms that squeezed her voluptuous breasts. The god below her placed his head on the pillow while she jumped up and down upon his girth. Finally, they released their pleasure on each other, and the beauty goddess rolled off onto the side of Ares, the god of war. Her small soft fingers trailed up the broad muscular chest of her brother and lustful lover. Her pink hair waved over his arm, and her temple rested on his bicep. Ares looked at the ceiling as he held Aphrodite with his free hand resting on her hip. Athena crawled near the right side of the bed frame and perched on the right leg. She waited for them to speak of the situation, wondering if any of them will bring it up.

Whew! Want to go another round? asked Aphrodite, but Ares kept staring at the ceiling. Ares, why are you so troubled in all this? You agreed with Zeus, yes?

His dark-red eyes investigated the light-blue circles of Aphrodite. What Zeus will do will empower me. Ares shifted his eyes back toward the ceiling. I will be on Zeus' side until it's the perfect time to strike. On his course to punish man, war will break out.

Aphrodite sat up on her elbow and responded, War? You think humans have the power to rival us?

Ares shook his head once. No no no. Someone will rebel against him. He looked toward the goddess of love. You know of whom I'm referring to.

Aphrodite chuckled as she rolled her eyes and faced Ares. Athena.

She shook her head as she continued to reply to her brother. You think our dear ol' sister will actually defy Zeus? She must have a death wish.

Ares chuckled. Think about it. She is my opposite. Of war, I am for fear and blood. Athena loves war as I do but for justice and nobility. I would side with the invaders and warlords, while Athena aids those who wish to defend their keep. Trust me, Aphrodite, she will challenge our father, and then war will begin. Ares pressed his lips to Aphrodite's in a kiss full of lust. Once I am strong enough to endure this drama, I will then take the throne of Olympus after I pierce Zeus in the heart. Ares got on top of Aphrodite, placing his waist between her legs. And you will be my queen.

Aphrodite smiled wickedly, and with fierce passion, they kissed. As they began to accomplish their lust once more, Athena left through the bottom of the door, and the goddess of warfare transformed back into her normal state. Wearing her long white gown, Athena made her way to the Center Hall. Perched on top was the eagle that can see everything from above along with the hundred-handers that the twin gods addressed earlier.

She transformed into a snowy owl and flew toward the Center Hall. Before she can land, she reformed back into the goddess of wisdom. The hundred-hander and massive eagle looked at her beauty; she walked toward them.

Zeus doesn't wish to be disturbed, said the hundred-hander.

Well, he needs to be. I have urgent news that needs to be addressed by him.

    He said—

Athena interrupted the multiarmed giant. Then go get him, or should I tell him how you put your hands on his most favored child?

The hundred-hander slowly moved his hand from Athena's chest and gave her passage to go to the throne room.

Zeus was looking over the balcony behind the throne room and sensed the presence of his daughter. I hope I didn't startle you when I went to you earlier.

Athena shook her head at her father as she continued to walk toward him while responding. Just a little, given your reputation.

Zeus kept his hands clenched together behind his back as he turned to face her. I wouldn't do that to you.

    Athena smiled slightly. I know.

He sighed calmly. What brings you to my courts? he asked.

Athena rested her glutes on the balcony, and her palms pressed on the edge of it as her fingers curled around it. I overheard Ares and Aphrodite speaking. He— She paused.

Zeus frowned but was interested to know what Athena heard. He what? he said in a serious tone.

Athena looked away and back toward Zeus. He agreed to aid you in your quest, but it's all in his plan.

Zeus began to pace as he looked intently at his daughter. I'm guessing there's a but.

Athena sighed heavily and lowered her head. Yes. He knows that war will come out of this. He thought that I'd be the one to rebel to cause war on Olympus, but man isn't so subtle you attack, they will go to war against us. Thus, he believes he'll be strong enough to take the throne.

Zeus' eyes lit up in streaks of lightning. Hermes! His voice boomed.

His loyal messenger called to his summoning. Hermes didn't wear much armor, but his helmet was golden as were his sandals with the wings attached. His slim muscular build was covered in a chiton that was the color of gold. Around his waist was a white belt. My king?

Zeus looked toward Hermes. "Tell Ares I wish to speak with him now!"

Hermes tilted his winged helmet and sped toward the chambers of the god of war. If he isn't here, then he has to be there. He ran to Aphrodite's room, and he stopped in front of the door. He heard the moaning of Aphrodite and Ares. The speeding god shook his head a bit and rolled his eyes. He sped to the goddess of love's window and saw Ares on top slamming his pelvis into Aphrodite's. He cleared his throat to get their attention. Ahem! he shouted.

Both gods turned their attention to Hermes.

Father wishes to speak with you, Ares.

Ares kept his crimson-red optics on his brother. Tell him I'll be there in a minute.

Hermes shook his head. He said now.

    *****

Moments later, Ares, clothed in a black chiton, walked with Hermes toward the Center Hall where Zeus and Athena were waiting. Zeus sat on his throne as Athena stood behind him with her right palm on the back of the throne with her fingers around it. Ares looked at the scenery and pondered within himself what could possibly be going on. He stopped below the stairs and folded his arms over his pecs.

    You wanted to see.

Zeus got up from the throne and walked down the stairs. Zeus didn't say a word, but with his right fingers curled inside his right palm, he slammed his knuckles into Ares' six-pack. Ares was hit so hard that a shock wave was released from the attack. The god of war curled over and spat out blood that hit the first step of the stairs. Zeus moved his fist from his son's stomach and walked back up the stairs as Ares fell to his knees and wrapped his arms around his stomach. Athena acted shocked, and Hermes was too.

So you wish to betray me? said Zeus.

Ares tried to regain the air he's lost and respond to his father, I…I don't…know what…you're talking…about. He grunted in pain, and Zeus sharply turned to look his son in disgust. Athena told me of your mind—how eventually you wish to take the throne from me after war is waged. Zeus lifted his hands upward, and a lightning bolt came down. He then moved his hand forward and struck Ares, who hit a pillar from the powerful attack.

    Zeus… said Hermes.

I don't want to hear it, Hermes. Stay in your place.

Ares shook his head; he looked up at an angry Zeus. Father, Ath—

Zeus lifted him by his throat, and Ares' feet dangled off the floor.

Silence! yelled the god of the sky.

Ares curled his hands around his father's wrist. Fa-father, think. Athena is turning you…against me.

Zeus narrowed his eyes and slammed Ares' back to the wall, cracking under his power.

Zeus, think about it! I love war for blood and doom! She loves war for honor and justice!

Zeus didn't want to admit that Ares brought up a good point. He let Ares go.

Ares once again fell to his knees, this time rubbing his throat. Breathing heavily, Ares stood up with the support of the pillar he was hit into. She's positioned your mind against me. She will scheme, Father! He pointed his right index finger toward Athena. She will rebel!

Athena walked around the throne. Mighty Zeus, you have always needed my council. Why would I betray your love now?

Zeus lifted his right hand to his side by his temple to give Athena the command to be silent while he looked at Ares. The god of war showed fury in his eyes toward his sister.

Think of who loves man more than you, Zeus. Who helped Perseus find the Gorgon Medusa? Who helped Theseus plan against the Minotaur? Who helped Heracles strategize against the Hydra? Who gave Achilles council and food? Who helped Odysseus get back home after twenty long years? She has always helped mankind! Ares' voice echoed in anger. He growled against his sister. You bitch!

    Athena frowned from Ares' words.

Ares moved, clinching his fist, and his armor appeared like heat, along with his sword and shield. His sword was grayish silver like the color of a vulture's head. His shield was shaped like a vulture's skull, and its roundness was like the skeleton of a snake. I'm going to kill you!

Athena smiled and responded, Grew some balls finally.

With a battle cry, Ares jumped toward Athena; his power cracked the floor.

Athena turned her wrists, and her armor appeared upon her in a shining light as did her shield that holds Medusa's head and golden spear of wisdom. She lowered her posture, and the thick sword of Ares slammed on her shield, creating a shock wave that pushed Hermes back, but the mighty Zeus did not flinch. Ares landed from his attack and swung once more, but Athena ducked and swept Ares from his ankles with her spear and cartwheeled over him. She arched her back and did a backflip from the first step to the throne to the last step to the floor and positioned her shield in front with her spear raised like a Spartan stance.

Ares clanked his shield with the flat of his sword, ready for battle. They circled each other, and Ares attacked once more with another swipe. Athena blocked with her shield and turned as she swung her spear to hit the back of Ares. He rolled and stood upright only to see Athena's spear coming toward him. He moved his blade outward to navigate the spear to stick inside a pillar. He rammed his shield into his sister and tried to slit her throat. But Athena was more cunning of a warrior; she strapped his arm between her armpit and shield. She tripped Ares as her gold light shone once more. Athena manifested a sword as Ares was falling, so was Athena on top of him, and the tip of her blade touched his throat. Her right knee touched the floor as her left foot was flat in between Ares' waist. In such rage, Ares looked into the soft gray hues of his sister, knowing she has defeated him.

Zeus turned to face his two most skilled children in battle and war. That's enough. Zeus was entertained by the small fight, but he did not show it. He walked toward them and moved his palm on Athena's shoulder. Athena, let him go.

She questioned the god of thunder. Why should I?

Zeus knelt and whispered in his daughter's ear. Because he brings up a good point.

She didn't take her eyes off Ares and slowly got up as her armor and weapons disappeared, and she was back in her gown. Please tell me you don't believe him, Father.

He shook his head as Ares got up, and his armor and weapons did the same, disappearing and leaving him only in his chiton. I don't know who to believe just yet. But Ares is right. You've always helped man in dire situations, and this situation is dire.

Athena tried to speak, but Zeus put his foot forward, stopping her.

Ares looked toward Athena as he spoke to Zeus. Father, she's the—

Zeus looked toward Ares and interrupted him. I said that's enough. Though he said it in his normal vocals, both gods of war knew he was serious. Return to your chambers—he looked toward Ares—especially you.

With that said, Ares disappeared like a yellow heat wave.

Good night, Father, said Athena. In a golden light, she disappeared back to her chambers.

Zeus couldn't sleep, but he knew he had to get rest for tomorrow. He sat on his throne and waited till dawn. He knew that the next day, he would find out who will be for him or against him—whether Athena or Ares would oppose him. At dawn, the line would be drawn.

    Chapter 3

    Unto Dawn

Helios turned the sun to shine on earth and to have its beams soar through the heavens. Its light reached Olympus, and Zeus did not move from his throne. He moved his right arm from his cheekbone, which rested on his hand. The screech of the eagle perched on the top of the Center Hall echoed.

Athena stood up from the bed and looked herself in the mirror; though her plan was sound, her heart still beat at a fast pace.

Apollo sat on his knees, and his palms rested on his thighs. His yellow eyes slowly opened as he meditated in the center of the sun, ready for what must be done.

Artemis wakened from her slumber and gripped her bow. She sighed heavily and slid her crescent helmet over her head.

Ares picked up his blade, and with a tight clinch of its handle, it turned into a war hammer.

Hermes placed his helmet back on and gave out small sigh.

Demeter sat forward on the edge of her bed as she looked out her window.

Hestia moved her hands together and apart continually to warm her room with the beauty of her hearth as she looked up toward the stars.

Dionysus took a sip of his wine.

Aphrodite placed her dress over her naked body and moved her hair from under her clothing.

Hephaestus sat on his chair next to the smithing station of his domain. His body was hunched forward, and his elbows pressed on his thigh muscles. His fingers were together resting under his bottom lip as his two thumbs were lengthened under his wide chin. His bronze-like optics looked on at the fire in his workstation.

Hera walked outside her and Zeus' chambers. She walked to her throne next to her husband's and sat as she looked forward. She didn't eye Zeus but spoke nonetheless. So now we just wait.

Zeus gripped his throne on each armrest. Yes, yes, we do.

In a form of a snowy owl, Athena was perched on the window entrance of Apollo's room. Apollo, Brother, are you ready?

The sun god gave Athena a nod.

The eagle perched on top of the Center Hall, and the hundred-hander looked over Olympus. Athena had to ensure that Apollo cannot be seen. Athena grew in adult size from her snowy-owl form for Apollo to sit on her back. She soared through the clouds above the Center Hall to ensure that he would not be seen.

The god of music began to play his immaculate sound that sounded so beautiful to the ears of those in the Center Hall. Zeus' lightning-like eyes looked up as the elegant music played. Hera frowned in curiosity as to who was playing it. Apollo. She spoke. All of a sudden, the eagle fell asleep as did the hundred-hander.

Shit! yelled Zeus as the monster fell over the balcony. Hera was startled but not her husband. His muscular frame stood upright as he kept his eyes on the oncoming hundred-hander. Not my throne! He extended his hands and caught the back of the hundred-hander that fell from the top of the peak. The strength of Zeus was uncanny. His knees didn't buckle as he caught the beast and held it. Zeus bent his knees and pushed off the floor of his throne. He soared with the hundred-hander in his hands.

Apollo leaped from the owl back of Athena with his bow drawn ready to shoot.

Artemis, now! the goddess of wisdom screamed.

Flying diagonally downward toward the gate of Olympus was Artemis. She spread her wings and backflipped in her great horned-owl form to dive straight toward the hundred-hander on the right and Alexiares, the son of
