Preface-Isabella's Vision of the Holy Ghost and the Apostles
As I stood beside Mary and the apostles, something extraordinary began to happen. Jesus, our Redeemer, was ascending, his body light as air, transforming into celestial brilliance. We were overwhelmed with awe, tears of joy tracing lines on our faces.
Suddenly, I felt a subtle change in the air; a sort of electrical charge, a tingling in my fingertips, a quickening of my heartbeat. Then I saw it—the Holy Ghost, appearing like a great celestial dove descending from the heavens, its feathers aglow with an otherworldly light, pure and radiant.
As it reached us, it seemed to disintegrate into tiny sparks of divine light, flowing into Mary and the apostles. It was like watching the birth of stars, a heavenly constellation coming to life within them. I felt it too, a soft glow igniting in my soul, an indescribable warmth flooding my entire being.
With this infusion of the Holy Ghost, I had a vision. I saw the apostles going forth into the world, each trailed by a luminous shadow, a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. They were not alone; I was with them. I saw myself assisting them, healing the sick, offering words of comfort, and converting souls in lands far and wide—Gaul, Britannia, and even my homeland of Ethiopia.
In that profound moment, my purpose became clear. I was to be their companion, an instrument of the Divine, a guardian of the faith. It was a future teeming with challenges, but also glorious victories. And at the heart of it all was Mary, her wisdom, her resolve, her unconditional love serving as a guiding light.
We were no longer just followers; we were torchbearers of a divine mission, bestowed upon us by the grace of the Holy Ghost. As I looked into Mary's eyes, I knew that we were ready to answer this heavenly call.
As Mary had been the apostles' sanctuary and source of wisdom, I would serve as their companion and support. Together, we would go forth to spread the teachings of Jesus, confident in the Holy Spirit that resided within us, guiding us through each trial and tribulation.
So, as the Holy Ghost came upon us, I realized this was just the beginning of a magnificent journey—a journey of faith, of trials, of immense love, and of divine revelations. It was a calling not just for Mary or the apostles, but for me, Isabella, a woman from Ethiopia who had found salvation and was now destined to help lead others to the light.
And so, we set forth, propelled by the love of Christ and guided by the Holy Ghost, towards a future unknown but held in the hands of the Divine.
The Chronicles of Mary Magdelene and Isabella of Ethiopia - The Divine Odyssey
Isabella, a striking woman from Ethiopia with a presence so ethereal that she could stop a crowd, stood in awe as she witnessed the Ascension of Jesus. Her piercing powder-blue eyes were fixated on the heavenly spectacle, as if tracing the very threads that wove the fabric of existence. The moment was beyond sublime, stretching the imagination of even the most devout prophets of her native land, a place already steeped in deep spirituality and ancient Christian traditions.
In the midst of this celestial experience, she felt the Holy Spirit surge through her like a wave of divine purpose. It was not just an emotional or ephemeral feeling; it was a corporeal, tangible change—as if a cosmic equation had been recalibrated, elevating her role in the sacred narrative.
In those holy instants, a vision emerged before her eyes: the Apostle Peter speaking to a crowd in Rome, Thomas touching the scars of believers in India, and Mary Magdalene, the woman whose friendship would become the cradle of her own spiritual journey, writing epistles that would echo through eternity. The Holy Spirit seemed to whisper a mission in her ear, You are called, not just to witness but to be part of this divine unfolding.
Suddenly, her gaze met Mary Magdelene’s across the crowd. An unspoken understanding passed between them, as if their souls recognized the symmetry in their divine missions. Mary, a woman who had left behind the temptations and struggles of life in the Roman Empire, shared a vision that was remarkably similar to Isabella's. The paths of these two extraordinary women converged, setting them on a journey neither had anticipated yet both had been prepared for.
Isabella was well-educated, particularly in the written arts—a skill less common among women of that time, even women of status. She taught Mary Magdelene the intricacies of writing in different scripts, from the simple Hebrew characters to the more complex Greek alphabets that would be necessary for spreading the Word far and wide.
Your words shall be like vessels, carrying the divine message across lands and through time,
Isabella told her, handing her the freshly cut quill.
Ah, but how could my words ever capture the majesty of what we’ve been given?
Mary wondered aloud.
It’s not just the words, Mary, but the Spirit that guides them. Remember the day of the Ascension? The Holy Spirit didn’t just descend upon us; it imbued us,
Isabella explained.
As they sat together, transcribing what would later be revered as The Gospel of Mary, the women entered into a dialogue on the complexities of the Holy Spirit, as guided by their own unique perspectives.
The Spirit is like a river, constantly moving, iridescent, carrying life wherever it flows,
Isabella shared, her thoughts rooted in the Ethiopian Christian notion of the continuous, active presence of the divine in the world.
But how does one tap into this eternal river?
Mary questioned.
You don’t tap into it; you immerse yourself. It's a symbiotic relationship. Think of it as the Spirit choosing you as much as you choose to follow it,
Isabella advised, her voice imbued with a wisdom that exceeded her years.
You’re saying the Holy Spirit chose me as its vessel?
Mary probed.
Didn’t you feel it? That day when we were both blessed with the Holy Spirit, it was as if a divine chord connected each of us to God. You were chosen, Mary, to bear witness to history, to counsel and to heal,
Isabella replied.
As they finished their conversation, Isabella could sense a profound change in Mary. She was no longer just the witness to a holy life; she was now a vessel for its teachings, ready to pen down wisdom that would comfort generations of seekers.
What are we to do next?
Mary finally broke the silence, her eyes meeting Isabella’s.
We shall go where the Spirit leads us, just as the Apostles have been instructed to spread the teachings. We shall accompany them, ensure the Word is not just spoken but immortalized, and create a sanctuary of faith for those we meet,
Isabella declared, her eyes reflecting a sky full of stars, each one a life waiting to be touched by their journey.
So began the odyssey of Mary Magdalene and Isabella of Ethiopia, an extraordinary friendship forged in celestial fire and guided by the Holy Spirit. Together, they would travel with the Apostles, documenting the nascent traditions and teachings of what would become one of the world's most widespread religions. They would bear witness to miracles and healings, philosophical debates and moral dilemmas, always capturing the essence of the events through their unique yet harmonious perspectives.
Isabella, with her grounding in the Ethiopian Christian Church, assembled writings that would later be deeply revered, such as the Book of Jubilees and the Book of Enoch. These works reflected a more mystical and metaphysical Christianity, steeped in visions, angels, and cosmology—core aspects of the Ethiopian Christian outlook.
Thus, this became not just the story of two women but the story of Christianity itself, spiraling out from Jerusalem, through Rome and Ethiopia, across continents and through the annals of time. It was a story that transcended both of them, yet could never have been written without them. And as they embarked upon this divine odyssey, they knew they were but scribes in the hand of a much greater Author—the Author of life, love, and eternal salvation.
The saga of Mary Magdalene and Isabella is only beginning. They have more lands to traverse, more souls to touch, and more divine mysteries to uncover. What lies ahead is a journey neither of them can foresee, but one that will surely be marked by trials, triumphs, and eternal truths. But no matter what the path holds, their faith—in God, in their mission, and in each other—will remain unshaken.
The chronicles of their divine odyssey will continue, as will their indelible impact on the spiritual landscape, from the echoing halls of the Vatican to the ancient, incense-filled churches of Ethiopia, and in the hearts of believers everywhere.
And so, dear reader, we invite you to join Mary Magdelene and Isabella as they take their next steps into the unfolding saga of faith—a story not just of Christianity, but of humanity's ceaseless quest for the divine.
This is but the first chapter in an epic that will span nations and generations, an odyssey that began in earnest with the descent of the Holy Spirit and the meeting of two extraordinary women whose lives, and writings, would become integral to the story of Christianity for millennia to come.
It was a serene night, and the apostles Matthew and John had joined Mary Magdalene and Isabella outside. The air was imbued with a quiet energy as if the earth itself held its breath in anticipation of the unfolding story. Matthew, with his sharp intellect honed by years as a tax collector, sat with scrolls and ink scattered around him. John, Jesus’ beloved, had a far-off look in his eyes, as though he was pondering mysteries only his soul understood.
Isabella found herself in a unique position, being a woman of learning who could converse with both the apostles and the women following Jesus, and she was keenly aware of the significance of the role she had assumed.
As they sat in a circle, Matthew turned to Isabella. You've been with Mary Magdalene, documenting the teachings and miracles. I've been recording Jesus' words since I first met Him, and we're planning to compile these into guidelines for new churches.
Yes,
said Isabella, nodding. I’ve heard of your meticulous writings, Matthew. It's crucial to preserve these teachings accurately. Mary and I have been doing the same.
Matthew then laid down his quill, We've been shown visions of new churches sprouting in places far from here—Syria, Egypt, and even beyond the seas. But there's a concern that's troubling us—the looming shadow of Roman censorship.
Isabella understood the weight of the matter. The Roman Empire might see this new faith as a threat to their authority. A written account could be both a beacon of hope and a target for suppression.
Matthew continued, Exactly. And given the situation, the subtlety and wisdom with which we document these teachings are as crucial as the teachings themselves. This is why I’m especially interested in your perspective, Isabella, as someone coming from a different cultural backdrop like Ethiopia.
Isabella paused and then spoke, In Ethiopia, our outlook emphasizes spiritual mystery and divine engagement in the world. Perhaps we can incorporate these elements to create a text layered with meaning, one that can bypass Roman scrutiny yet remain accessible to those initiated in the faith.
John, who had been listening intently, interjected, The Spirit does work in mysterious ways. My vision has shown me that I must go to Ephesus, a place rife with various philosophies and teachings. Matthew, you are being led to Antioch, are you not?
Matthew nodded, Yes, and it’s fascinating that we are all being called to different lands only to regroup later for a larger mission. It’s as if we are different threads in a tapestry the Spirit is weaving.
At that moment, John looked toward Isabella, In my vision, I also saw you, Isabella. You were there, providing balance and guidance. We will require your wisdom, especially as a woman, to carry forth this message to other women in these societies where men and women hardly consort on matters of faith.
Isabella felt humbled and encouraged. It’s an honor to be a part of this divine plan. I believe that the Spirit indwells in each of us, guiding us through our distinct paths to serve a collective purpose. And I'm committed to fulfilling this sacred mission.
Matthew picked up his quill again, Well, then it's settled. Let’s start documenting, ensuring that the words reflect the Spirit within and around us. We have a responsibility to generations yet unborn.
Isabella smiled, And so, under these stars, with these parchments and inks, we make our first steps into eternity.
The Gospel According to Mary and Isabella
As they sat in deep contemplation, sharing the first of what would be many strategic discussions, Isabella felt an indescribable joy. Here she was, surrounded by people wholly committed to the same divine mission, bound not by blood or nationality but by the indwelling Spirit that called them all.
Matthew began to read some of the words he'd written so far, words that would one day be part of the Gospel according to Matthew. John also shared mystical insights, glimpses of what would eventually find its way into the profound prose of his own Gospel and the Book of Revelation.
Listening to them, Isabella knew that the scope of their undertaking was beyond human comprehension. Yet, there was a sense of readiness in her spirit, a calm assurance that the Holy Spirit would guide them through every challenge and triumph that lay ahead.
Mary Magdalene, who had been quietly absorbing the conversation, finally spoke, I am overwhelmed with a sense of grace. Our individual stories are unique threads in a larger tapestry that the Spirit is weaving. We're bound in unity, each thread essential, each pattern interconnected.
Isabella looked at her friend, then at Matthew and John, and knew that Mary’s words were divinely inspired.
Yes,
Isabella echoed. Unity in diversity—that's the hallmark of the indwelling Spirit.
And so, united in Spirit, yet diverse in their gifts and callings, they embarked on their respective missions. With a joy that defied all understanding, they were off—to Antioch, to Ephesus, to the farthest corners of the earth, and to the deepest chambers of the human heart.
This was the advent of an odyssey so grand, so saturated with divine intentions, that its full story could never be contained in mere earthly chronicles. It was an odyssey that would redefine history, society, and even the concept of spirituality itself. And in the eye of this celestial storm were Mary Magdalene, Isabella of Ethiopia, Matthew, John, and countless others—each an indispensable note in a divine symphony, a hymn of salvation that would echo through
