    R U Like Christ? - Steve Taylor

    The Aspiration to Christlikeness

As we embark on a profound exploration of the Scriptures and engage in deep meditation on these profound passages, we are granted a profound revelation of the truly transformative essence of reflecting Christ. This transformation is not merely superficial, but rather, it encompasses a profound reshaping of our very core. Let us persistently strive to cultivate an ever-growing affection and understanding of Christ, enabling His divine image to permeate every facet of our existence. In doing so, we shall become living testaments of His boundless love, infinite wisdom, and unmerited grace.

Part 1: The Aspiration to Christlikeness

B ut we all, with unveiled face reflecting as a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. - 2 COR. iii. 18 (Revised Version).

The quest for Christlikeness stands as an indisputably noble pursuit in the life of a Christian. It is a journey deeply rooted in the profound understanding that our ultimate goal is to emulate the character of Jesus Christ. This pursuit goes beyond mere actions; it encompasses the alignment of our entire being with His divine nature.

Scripture provides a solid foundation for this transformative journey. It reminds us that the process of becoming more Christlike is not instantaneous but rather a gradual progression. As we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit within us, we are transformed from one degree of glory to another, mirroring the very glory of the Lord Himself.

One such scripture that reinforces this truth is found in 2 Corinthians 3:18, which states, And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. This verse highlights the ongoing nature of our transformation, emphasizing that it is the Spirit of the Lord who brings about this change in us.

Furthermore, Romans 8:29 reminds us of God's ultimate purpose for His children, stating, For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. This verse underscores the divine intention for us to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, positioning Him as the firstborn among a multitude of believers.

In our pursuit of Christlikeness, we are also encouraged by the words of 1 John 2:6, which states, Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. This verse challenges us to not only profess our faith in Christ but also to live in a manner that reflects His teachings, actions, and character.

"As we embark on this noble quest for Christlikeness, let us be steadfast in our commitment to align our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors with the example set by
