About the Author
Chapter One
D own Parker Street ,
Deone instructed. That's Madison. We're going to be late.
Well who the heck decides to meet at a pizza place that no one has heard of?
Julie asked, making a face. I feel more like we're on a scavenger hunt than we are meeting up with a friend.
I don't know why she chose this place, but I'm sure there was a reason,
Deone replied, brushing a stray hair out of her face. Maybe she doesn't want to be seen by anyone that she knows.
How many people can you know?
Julie asked. This is a big city. It's easy to blend in.
You know how Gia can be,
Deone said. She is always paranoid that someone is listening in on her conversations and paying attention to what she is doing. Maybe, the pizza place makes her feel more comfortable.
Maybe,
Julie replied. She wasn't sure if Deone was right or not, and at this point, she wasn't sure if cared. She just wanted to get this meeting with Gia done and over with, because she had better things to do than hunting for random places she had never heard of.
They backtracked Madison and hit Parker Street, looking for Peppy's Pizza. Gia had said that it was urgent. She had been insistent that they all meet up so they could talk, despite Julie's request to do it over the phone. A large red sign with glowing lights caught her eye and she tugged Deone's Hoodia. There it is,
Julie said. Let's go in and get this done.
Deone shot her a look. You need to stop being so crass. What if Gia needs help? What if something bad happened?
I doubt it,
Julie said, rolling her eyes. She probably needs an opinion on a new outfit that she bought or a make-up tutorial. I can’t see her needing us for anything serious.
We'll see,
Deone replied, opening the door of the pizza place for Julie. Sometimes, people can surprise you.
And sometimes they are the same old people with the same problems,
Julie said. Sometimes the scenery is just different.
Deone shook her head and ushered Julie towards a table where Gia was sitting. Julie looked at the other woman. She didn't look like her normally peppy self. In fact, her make-up was smeared and it looked like she had been crying.
Is everything okay?
Deone asked, sitting next to Gia.
No,
Gia replied, falling into Deone's arms. Everything sucks right now, and I don't know what to do.
What happened?
Julie asked. She was slightly worried due to Gia's present condition. Very rarely did Gia cry, if at all, and she felt bad for not believing Deone when she said there might be an issue.
I have a problem,
Gia said quietly.
Is it drugs?
Julie asked. Alcohol? Are you in legal trouble?
No,
Gia answered. It's worse than that.
Julie couldn't think of too many things that could be worse, and she was tired of the guessing games. She wanted to get down to business, figure out the problem, and find a solution. Well, what is wrong?
She asked.
I have a stalker,
Gia replied in an almost inaudible whisper.
What?
Julie asked.
