About the Book Series Lost Between Details

    Introduction

In the year 1999, a young lady asked me about Islam. Clearly, she was using it as a way to start chatting, and embarrassingly, back then I wasn’t confident about what I was taught in school about my religion. Even if I tried to explain it, I still failed to find the words to describe it. I wasn’t bummed about not being able to explain it to her, but I was bummed with myself for not being definite about my own religion and never taking the time to think about it.

Fifteen years later, after reading the Quran only Allah knows how many times, if anyone asked me that question again, I would smile, and tell them it is just having faith and doing good deeds. Now, some of you are going to think I am fooling with you, but honestly, it is that simple: Allah states it over and over in the Quran.

14:23 But those who had attained faith and had done righteous deeds were entered into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein by their Lord’s leave; their greeting therein is: Peace.

18:30 Indeed, those who have attained faith and have done righteous deeds...—indeed, we do not waste the reward of whoever excels in work. 18:31 For those, there are the Gardens of Eden, rivers flowing beneath them. In it, they are adorned with bracelets of gold and wear green garments of silk and brocade, reclining therein on couches. What a wonderful recompense, and what an excellent place of rest!

18:107 Indeed, those who have attained faith and have done righteous deeds—the Gardens of Paradise have always been there for their hospitality,

45:30 As for those who have attained faith and have done righteous deeds—their Lord enters them into His mercy; that is the evident triumph.

85:11 Surely those who believe and do good will have Gardens under which rivers flow. That is the greatest triumph.

98:7 Indeed, those who believe and do good—they are the best of ˹all˺ beings. 98:8 Their repayment with their Lord: Gardens of Eternity beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Allah became well pleased with them and they became well pleased with Him. That is for whoever was in awe of his Lord.

The do good part—I think we all have good judgment or a general understanding about that one: to obey the Lord, to do what is moral, and to avoid what is immoral. But what about faith? What do we need to become believers?

In this book, I intended to recount and explain the elements that give us the faith to become a believer while providing verses from the Quran. All of my books are free to download with the exception of The Multitude of Personalities Made Simple which is the outcome of more than four years of research, note-taking, and observation of different types of personalities. For those who aren’t familiar with my style, I try to do my best to keep these books like the rest of the series: straight to the point, educational, and entertaining.

That said, let our journey begin!

    Faith

The Five Pillars of Faith are the requirement for a person to become a believer. It is also one of the two requirements to enter Heaven.

2:82 And those who believe and do good works: such are rightful owners of the Garden. They will abide therein.

5:69 Indeed, those who have attained faith and those who have Judaized and the Sabians and the Christians—whoever has attained faith in Allah and the Last Day and has acted righteously—then no fear shall be upon them, nor shall they grieve.

There is not a single religion of the divine scripture that doesn’t include these five requirements

What do I need to do to acquire this faith?

You need to believe in: 1 God, 2 His Angels, 3 His Books, 4 His Messengers and 5 the day of Judgement

4:136 O you who have attained faith, have faith in Allah and His Messenger and the Scripture which He bestowed upon His Messenger from on high and the Scripture He sent down before. And whoever denies Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers and the Last Day, then he has surely strayed into extreme misguidance.

2:177 Rather, righteousness is in one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Scripture and the prophets,

Again, all religions of the divine scripture—Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrian, Taoism, Buddhism (check their scriptures), and Hinduism (what they perceive as Gods are actually angels)—include these five requirements.

Can you further describe a believer?

2:3 Who believe in the Unseen, and establish worship, and spend of that We have bestowed upon them; 2:4 and those who believe in what has been sent down to you and what has been sent down before you, and regarding the Hereafter they are certain. 2:5 Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and those are the successful.

23:1 Surely the believers have attained success: 23:2 those who are reverent in their prayers; 23:3 And who shun vain conversation, 23:4 and those who are observant of the purifying charity 23:5 and those who preserve their private parts, 23:6 except from their spouses or those whom they rightfully possess—for then they are free from blame. 23:7 But whoever seeks anything beyond that—those are the transgressors. 23:8 And who are shepherds of their pledge and their covenant, 23:9 and those who preserve their prayers —

What are the opposites of a believer?

The opposite of a believer is an Infidel or a disbeliever and a deceiver.

How can I tell if someone is an infidel?

2:6 Indeed, it is the same for those who have denied: whether you have warned them or have not warned them, they do not believe. 2:7 Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and over their sight(s) is a veil; for them is a great punishment.

How can I tell if someone is a deceiver?

2:8 And of mankind are those who say, We have attained faith in Allah and in the Last Day, but they are not believers. 2:9 They try to deceive Allah and those who have attained faith, yet they deceive none but themselves, but they are unaware. 2:10 In their hearts is sickness, so Allah increased their sickness, and for them is a painful punishment on account of how they used to lie. 2:11 And when it is said to them, Do not spread corruption in the land, they say, Indeed, we are only reformers. 2:12 Undoubtedly, it is they who are indeed the corrupters, but they are unaware. 2:13 And when it is said to them, Believe as the people have believed, they say, Shall we believe as the fools have believed? Undoubtedly, it is they who are indeed the fools, but they do not know. 2:14 And when they encounter those who have attained faith, they say, We have attained faith. But when they are alone with their devils, they say, We are indeed with you; we are only ridiculing. 2:15 Allah ridicules them and gives them free rein to exceed all limits, wandering blindly.
