      I love to help people. It’s why I started to train as a nurse. And why, one summer, I decided to offer my services at our local sperm bank.

      They were more than happy to take me on. They’d just lost one of their clinic assistants and, because I guess I’m kind of personable, they decided to put me on reception under the donor coordinator.

      Julie’s job was to assess all the potential donors. I was to welcome the donors as they came into the facility to provide their ‘donations’. And after a brief orientation of the facilities, Julie said: Now today, Melody, you’ll be dealing with the donors who have already been screened. All you have to do is make sure they’ve filled out the necessary paperwork, give them a cup, and then take them into a production suite where they provide their donation. Once this is done, you collect the sample, and take it through to the lab. Simple.
