    "You need anything, hon? said Evan, brushing the sand off the back of his legs. I was thinking of getting an ice cream from that store we passed a little way back."

    I peeked at Evan over the rims of my sunglasses, and sighed. Some honeymoon this was turning out to be. How was it your new husband was way more excited about ice cream than spending time with his new wife?

    Tess? Evan put his hands on his hips impatiently. He looked paunchy in his t-shirt and shorts. He used to work out three times a week. Not now.

    I’m fine, thanks, I murmured, poking my glasses back up the bridge of my nose. You knock yourself out.

    Okay, great. I might be a while though. I noticed they had an old space invaders game in there too. I used to be pretty good. Might give it a go.

    Really? I drilled him with a stare – although he couldn’t see my displeasure behind my sunglasses.

    I won’t be long. Honestly.

    Jesus! Fine. Whatever. I’ll hold the fort here then.

    Excellent. Just make sure you don’t burn, okay? You know how delicate your skin is.

    And Evan turned and toiled his way up the beech until he was out of sight.

    I looked down at myself as I sat on the beach towel. Evan was right about one thing at least. My milky complexion, with a smattering of freckles on my shoulders and cleavage, was prone to catch the sun easily – the curse of every redhead. And I was very red-headed, with a mane of curls that I’d somehow wrestled into a pony tail under my baseball cap.
