    PROLOGUE

Sharing some thoughts from the author.

    Recipes for survival

We don’t come with a recipe, blueprint or instructions. Somewhere along the way if we don’t have a grandfather or a sugar someone, we have to figure it out. Our story then becomes a roadmap for those fellow unfortunates who also need a little push to stay on the track and not veer over the cliff, or at least not as often. The road map becomes a suit of armor for us, keeping us on the treacherous path of human destiny. Choices, that’s what the map shows. This way the quicksand, that way the volcano, or the one foot in front of another hard uphill. After the brutal climb we can sit at the top and see the beautiful vistas spread out, the paths we struggled on. There is no more weariness, just peace, the pat on the back, and then that long trek back down to home. I’m sharing my recipes and roadmaps so your journey might be a bit easier.

    Fighting for courage

You never felt brave, only a big hollow where your stomach was. But after the big hard thing, you know, you just know, you were really brave. A feeling of joy rises up. You did it, and now it’s behind you. You can skip and jump and smile. It was bad, but now it’s over. Like everything else in life, it never lasts
