About this ebook
Insanity, in its rarest form, is the consumption of our soul.
Something evil makes its home in the dark foothills of Missouri. What you might expect is far from the reality.
An ambitious reporter trying to catch her big break, finds herself broken down and lost in the very woods where darkness dwells.
I'm not saying this has the makings of a horror story...but...
Animal is a story of a mother who is willing to go past the line to protect her child. To protect their way of life. But when strangers start showing up, the Animal must be released.

Chapter One
A hand print with blood dripping Description automatically generatedMomma
My senses were on high alert when I heard my boy bumping around in his cage. His wails of distress woke me up, sending me frantically upstairs to see what had interrupted his normally calm night.
Lately though, it was like something was making him nervous. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but it seemed to only be targeting him, making him edgy. Something deliberate, evil.
When I walked into the room, I opened the cage door, and backed up against the wall.

The Watcher is in my place of solace. That means there will be suffering. I will need to come out of my safe space to appease her.
The pain is excruciating when I move. But she doesn’t care. The shock stick she hits me with hurts, so she knows I will obey. Pain is all I know, and pain is all she provides me.
Momma
Keeping my eyes on him, but edging towards the window, I look out to see if there is an obvious distraction. The intense way he focuses on me makes my heart happy.
I often wonder what he’s thinking. I’ve tried to teach him how to communicate, but it frustrates him, often throws him into a rage. I never stop telling, or showing, how much I love him.
He understands sometimes that the repercussions of not listening are life lessons he must learn. There must be order in our tiny little world.

The constant chaos in my head makes it hard to comprehend all the time, I do know she wants me to learn. Learn I have, but she will never know. I remember a time I could stay in my hole and never have to leave the safety of the box.
Now, the Watcher makes me come out; feel the pain. It will not end well for any of us here. I just want to be left alone. She tries to touch me. I’ve tried to emphasize many times, never touch me unless you want to bleed.
Momma
I hate the look of pain on his face. I know he is always miserable; I just wish I could help him. He refuses to allow me to remove the mask off his disfigured face, which I know is a source of a lot of his agony.
My pa decided at the ripe old age of fourteen, I should keep his bed warm. I fought as hard as I could, but it only wound up with me getting a black eye and a busted lip, and with pa and my brother Elmer taking turns fucking me inside and out.
I was humiliated and devastated. My world completely changed. They made sure I was available to them, taking me out of school. Ma just stayed on the porch in her rocker when it happened as if not seeing it, made it go away.
When I ended up pregnant, Elmer had enlisted in the Army and was sent away to boot camp. My father was so pissed, like I was the one to blame. He threw me on the floor, kicking me several times in the stomach.
When he went to bed that night, I was still laying on the kitchen floor. My momma looked half crazed. She brought me a shotgun, then she walked out the front door and never came back.
I gingerly got up, pointed the gun at my daddy, and pulled the trigger. No one ever came to see where he had gone. No one even missed him.
I dragged his body out and was able to hoist it into the well. His body went down
