You are Light - Mark A. Helm

    1

    YOU ARE ONE LIGHT

Each of us is the light of the world, and by joining our minds in this light we proclaim the Kingdom of God together and as one. (ACIM, T-6.II.13:5)

Light, in the physical sense, is something we all know well, for light is what causes us to see. The sun rises each day, to transition us from the darkness of the night. To me, this symbolizes our mind seeing light, instead of beholding darkness. We think we do not have a choice in this, since it is something external to us, but we do indeed have a choice internally, to see the light however dark the night is. A lamp is turned on and we can see our way, a small nightlight glows and our children know they are not alone in their rooms and can be guided. We are not alone, we all have the spark of light within us, which we share with God.

All emotions fuse into one, all people, all words, all places, all things blend into the one glorious light that we all are and share with our source. We see in darkness, which causes separation of each other, from our source, from love. Light awakens us to that which we are, and that which our brothers are. We see the truth in all, beyond what our eyes can see.

The true light looks beyond our limited vision and sees the vision of Christ. We look both in and beyond the physical world. We look with the most powerful thing we know: our mind. Our thoughts literally can change our world, because they change our perception.

We are connected to everyone and everything within the mind—not in the world per se, but beyond the physical senses. Heaven is a state of mind, and we can reflect the oneness and love of heaven, and understand what our mind is experiencing, and begin to change our minds.

You are light, you are love, and eternally you belong here, to internally see the light, however dark the night is.

What is the same can not be different, and what is one can not have separate parts. (ACIM, T-25.I.7:7)

SEE THE LIGHT IN EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING

The light in one awakens it in all. ⁷And when you see it in your brother, you are remembering for everyone. (ACIM, T-21.I.10:6-7)

See that all things—not some, not one, but all—are in light. And as ACIM says, within that light is their purpose and our purpose transformed. The change is in our minds, not externally. Though external things can change, the real purpose is for our mind to change. Things need to be transformed in our thoughts and brought to the light. Light does not change, it shines throughout time and space, and beyond both into eternity.

You have a spark of the great rays of light within, and our goal on Earth is to uncover this spark within our minds and grow it, as it becomes a blazing light embracing all within its realm with love, deep peace, and eternal joy.

Remember, the light shines back to you as well. Many times, I think it is easier for us to see the good in others than it is to see the light within ourselves. Uncovering that darkness and bringing it into the light is part of our journey. It is how we grow in our perception and understanding. Your transformation begins with your mind.

Our eyes behold mainly differences in this world: different shades of light, different people, different countries. The list is endless, as we try to break light into smaller pieces; but really this is breaking darkness further, for light cannot be broken, and so your spirit cannot be broken. It is eternal, it is one with God, unchanging, all powerful, omnipotent, glorious, loving, and extending forever.

Today, as you go out, remember this and hold this perspective in your mind. Think of the light within others, and the light within you. Let them join as one brilliant eternal light today

    3

ACCEPT PEOPLE FOR THE LIGHT THEY ARE

Your right mind sees only brothers, because it sees only in its own light. (ACIM, T-7.III.4:10)

Living in the light means to accept others where, who, and how they are, not where, who, and how you want them to be. Your perspective is not their perspective. Light shines on all things, people, places, things. We all have expectations of where we want someone to be, or how they should act, what they should say, etc. We give endless advice to others on how they should live their lives, what they should do, where they should go.

Many times, we feel we have all the answers, and though our intentions may be well-founded, we do not have the knowledge of where they have been, what they are going through, and what their purpose is in life.

See the love and beauty in others, as they are spirit; behind what we see, that is their reality. Lay all judgment aside.

We also meet ourselves where we are, not where we think we need to be. In life, things always change: in our world, in reality, in spirit, we do not change. Accept yourself for who you are, not what you do, where you are, or where you have been. Your journey has taken you to this point for a reason. The lessons you have learned have been invaluable. The people you have in your life—past or present—are there for a purpose.

A Course in Miracles tells us that all is either love, or a call for love. It looks at each situation you are in with these two aspects. Is someone calling to you for love, or are they giving love? If they are calling for love, should you attack or forgive? Will you accept or condemn? How will you answer their call?

Today, choose one person, and accept them for the love they are. Acknowledge the love or call for love with them. You can tell them or not; you can do this in your thoughts. We all have at least one person in our lives that we do not fully accept as they are. Today, forgive your judgment, be honest with yourself, and let it go. Give that thought over to God or the Holy Spirit and accept the light within them. They may be here, they may be far, they may no longer be on this Earth. It does not matter to your mind’s thought. Together we will shine as one light.

ALL JOURNEY IN LIGHT WITH YOU

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. —Psalm 119:105

I met a friend, Larry, who told me a story about a hiking trip he and his wife, Cheryl, took, which I would like to share. They were hiking in Arizona several years ago and enjoying the beauty of the scenic desert. After hiking a bit, they realized they had lost the trail and started seeking the path to their destination again. But as Larry said, After a while, all the cacti start looking the same in the desert.

They eventually found their way back to a path, decided to keep hiking, and reached the summit. Their reward was an incredible view of the city, off in the distance in front of them.

But the real beauty of their climb was to be found when they turned around. For when they did, they saw hundreds of paths leading to the summit. They had no idea there were so many paths that crossed the countryside: some leading to places not seen before, some winding far, and some straight; some well-traveled and others hardly noticeable.

They knew there was more than one way to reach their destination, and all paths led to it; and even though they lost their way once, they would find another path up. They could see others would find their way as well.

We are all on our journey in life. We get lost sometimes and feel like we are going in circles, up and down the mountains and valleys. Our paths also may be very different than the path our brother is on, but once we reach the top we realize that all paths lead to the same place. We can look to our left and our right, and see that our brothers and sisters are there with us as one.

Some may travel faster, some slower—it doesn’t matter. The destination will be reached by all. Some may lead, others may follow. When you feel you have lost your way, know that you will reach the summit, and you will have help to get there—so when you need it, ask for it. Know that you are not making the journey alone, for your brother goes with you and God goes with both of you.

Today, be open to the path your brother is on. None of us are at the summit yet. So we cannot judge the path he is on, but we do know he is making his climb and will reach his destination, along with us. His path may not be one you understand, but when we reach the summit it will be seen clearly as the way he was meant to go.

    YOUR LIGHT IS COURAGE

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. —Nelson Mandela

    Courage means to have heart,
