    Chapter 1

    The New Generation

Just when you thought the story had ended, it hadn't. Thus begins the story of the next generation of the House of Rochester. It was just a short couple of months since young William was invested as Prince of Wales when tragedy stuck in the midst of what should have been a joyous time. It happened while Queen Margaret (Jordan) was interviewing nannies. It was weird that Jordan was interviewing nannies for young William; he had one. It had not been announced yet that she and John were expecting another child.

Jordan heard the stories of how much care her mother took to find her nanny. Princess Grace and Gene wanted to take care of Jordan themselves, and it didn't take long to find out that it wouldn't work. Commitments for both of them made it impossible, so Princess Grace decided to find a nanny. Her staff picked out three nannies, and none lasted more than a week. There was something about them that she didn't like. A friend of the royal doctor suggested a nanny. There was a single mom from Leeds that was having a tough time after her husband had left and would make a nice nanny. So young Sharon Dolan was sent for an interview with the princess. Princess Grace seemed to hit it off with her right away. They were about the same age, and Sharon was an experienced mom. Her only downside, for some, was that Sharon had a six-year-old son, Shawn. This wasn't a problem for Grace, and Sharon was allowed to bring him with her. So began a lifelong relationship between young Princess Jordan and Sharon. First as a nanny and later as a governess and finally as her private secretary and confidant.

It was hard at first for Sharon until she could move from Leeds to London. The palace secured an apartment nearby for Sharon and Shawn. At first, Sharon would hurry about to get Shawn to school and then hurry to the palace. Then there were times that Shawn didn't have school and would go to the palace. As they grew, Shawn had more contact with young Jordan but really didn't like her, mostly because she was a little girl. When school let out in the afternoon, Sharon would take Jordan out for some fresh air while she went to get Shawn. There was never any real danger in this since there was a bodyguard nearby. When Jordan began her schooling, it was with private tutors. That did help Shawn because Jordan was still having classes when he was there. He was getting help, and his schooling was continuing. Those late classes turned out to be language classes. As Jordan learned French and German, so did Shawn, and he picked up the languages quicker than she did. The one late class that he didn't like was dance class because he had to practice with Jordan. That was the one class that would help him. As Shawn went from primary school to secondary school, he would spend less time at the palace. He continued his education at the palace, which helped him in the long run. The language classes helped when he went from secondary school to college and decided to study them. He hoped that language skills and his connections that he would be able to get a job as a government translator. What he did do was meet a young girl, Helen Pinegrove from Hastings, who was also studying languages. It was love at first sight. Shawn actually met Helen at a social event and won her heart because he knew how to dance. Once they finished college, Shawn and Helen married. Each had a job at the foreign office as translators. Life was good for them. Then came even better news. They were expecting a child. Everyone was excited about the news, and what should have been a joyous event just as Helen's time came to have the child, tragedy struck.

This brings us to what happened. As Sharon was presenting prospective nannies to Queen Margaret, she was interrupted. An assistant to Sharon tapped her on the shoulder and whispered to her.

Suddenly out loud, Sharon said, Oh my god, no, and hurried out.

Sharon's assistant didn't know what to do, and she also left in a hurry, leaving Queen Margaret with the prospective nanny. After a few awkward minutes, Queen Margaret had security escort the nanny out, and the nanny interviews ended for the day. No one knew what was going on or what had happened. Security was sent to retrieve the assistant private secretary to explain to the queen what had happened and to manage the rest of the day. Doreen Henderson, the assistant, had the task of telling the queen of the tragedy. There had been a car accident. Sharon's son Shawn and daughter-in-law Helen were on the way to the hospital and were involved in an accident. At that time, she didn't know how they were. Jordan was worried since Sharon had been her nanny, mentor, private secretary, and most importantly, her close friend, and she had known Shawn all of her life. It took several hours for anyone to find out what had happened, and it wasn't good. Her security people were able to find out the details, and it wasn't good. A car ran a red light and broadsided Shawn. He didn't survive the impact. Helen was rushed to the hospital, but there wasn't any news about her or the baby. The extent of the tragedy was finally discovered, as news came that Helen had died in surgery, as they were taking the child to save her life. Sharon had hoped for this to be a joyous event, and instead, everything in her life had been taken from her, except a tiny little girl.

This was one of those trips that drove security crazy, an unplanned trip out. Jordan went to the hospital to be with Sharon. There wasn't anything she could do but be there for her, as Sharon had done many times for her. She spent several hours with Sharon as they waited for someone to say something. After the second royal visitor, Queen Grace, Sharon told Jordan that she needed to return to the palace and be with Will and John. Before she left, Jordan told her to take as much time as she needed. Sharon made the comment that she would be leaving her job so she could take care of her granddaughter. She didn't call her by name, an oversight from the tragedy. The poor child didn't have a name. Later that evening, the little girl would be christened Stacy Jordan.

For the next couple of days, Sharon spent arranging a funeral for Shawn and Helen and getting her place ready to bring her granddaughter home, besides all the other things that she had to do. Sharon sat down and prepared her letter of resignation for the queen. The day of the funeral, which was supposed to be private but certainly wasn't. Queen Margaret, Prince John, Prince William, Queen Grace, and Prince Eugene came to pay their respects. Of course, the appearance of both queens drew the attention of the press, which drew heavy security. Shawn and Helen were laid to rest at the royal cemetery on the palace grounds to show people that they were part of the extended royal family. The first day home for Stacy was trying for Sharon. It had been a long time since she had to care for an infant. The second day was going to be even tougher for her. She was going to the palace to resign. Sharon couldn't leave little Stacy with a sitter since she didn't know anyone she could trust with her. So Sharon headed to the palace with her granddaughter in tow. To her surprise, when she arrived, the only thing the security officer said about Stacy was how cute she was. Then he placed a security badge he had for her on her carrier like she belonged there.

Once in the palace, a page came up to take the carrier from her. He had been ordered to assist her whatever she needed. It was going to be different today. Normally, Sharon was the one presenting people to the queen, and today, she was going to be presented so she could resign her post. That didn't go as planned. Sharon came in and was presented to the queen and gave her, her letter of resignation. That was about as much of her plan that went like it was supposed to. Queen Margaret dismissed everyone but John. Jordan made it clear that Sharon was not going to resign and wanted aunt time with little Stacy.

As John and Jordan took turns holding little Stacy, Sharon continued to plead her case to resign. She tried to explain to Jordan that she couldn't take care of an infant and still do her job. Jordan said nonsense and that they could make it work. She told Sharon that they had nanny interviews in the afternoon and that she expected her to be there, one of those implied orders. They would be selecting a nanny to take care of the children, meaning Stacy and a yet-to-be-born child. Until the arrival of her next child, the nanny would care for Stacy. Nothing would change. Sharon would come to work and could see Stacy whenever she felt she needed to. If they traveled, then Stacy would join them, like William did. So began Stacy's life at court in England, one that would last more than eighty years.

Just like that, Stacy's future was determined. That afternoon, Jordan and Sharon went to nanny interviews, and Stacy went to the nursery with William's nanny, which was not a problem. There were no problems because William was with dad, and Nancy didn't have anything to do. Nancy was happy to have a little baby again. William was almost eighteen months older than Stacy and was becoming active and a hand full. Jordan and Sharon agreed on a nanny for the children, Ms. Rebecca Short. She was the one Sharon liked, so Jordan agreed. If there was a problem, later, she would find another nanny for her child. The next day began a new routine at the palace. Early in the morning, Sharon arrived. Rebecca met her and took Stacy to the nursery. At first, Sharon would go and check on Stacy at the top of every hour. After a few days, she didn't check on Stacy as much. She could see that Rebecca was a good choice for a nanny. An hour or so later, Nancy brought William to the nursery, and he would be introduced to Stacy. William was introduced to Stacy by the nannies. Will got up close and looked this young girl in the eyes, and then he kissed her on the cheek. Maybe this was when it happened, a lifetime of devotion to each other. It seemed like Cupid had shot young William with an arrow of love for young Stacy. He would never get tired of kissing that girl.

Just when they were getting used to this new routine, it was changed again. New babies always seem to come in the middle of the night but not Margaret Jeanette. She had to be different. In fact, she arrived a little early and during the middle of the afternoon. Even though Jordan was close to her due date, she continued her official duties. Today, it was a formal meeting with Prime Minister Harris when it happened. Actually, Queen Margaret was chewing out the prime minister for making another nasty comment about the royal family. Just as Prime Minister Harris was complaining about being summoned, Queen Margaret was hit by pain, doubled over, and cried out, Oooh. The prime minister could care less about the queen being in pain, but Sharon rushed to her side.

    What's wrong? Sharon asked.

Almost crying, Jordan whispered quietly, It's time.

Sharon whispered, I'll get an ambulance for you.

Jordan whispered back, There's no time.

Looking down, Sharon could see a puddle forming at the base of the throne.

Guards, Sharon shouted, get everyone out of here! Someone get Dr. Gordon.

Quickly, the guards rushed everyone out, including Prime Minister Harris, who was not pleased. As Dr. Gordon arrived, Sharon was getting Jordan off the throne and onto the floor. Here is this huge magnificent room, and a woman is on the floor about to have a baby. Dr. Gordon made a quick check of Jordan's condition and decided that taking her somewhere else wasn't going to happen. John and several nurses came in just as Jordan had another pain. Dr. Gordon was right about not having time to get her to the palace clinic. One of the nurses rushed back to the clinic to get the supplies that they would need as Dr. Gordon, and the other nurse began to work to get Jordan ready for the big event. Besides John, Sharon, and the medical staff, only a couple of female guards were allowed in the room. Just like that, and that quick, Jordan had her second child. This was the first time in over a hundred years a member of the royal family had a second child. Dr. Gordon caught the new princess and gave her a swat on the butt. She signaled everyone that she was there and okay. When the second nurse arrived with the medical supplies, Jordan was already holding her daughter. Margaret Jeanette was a quick and easy birth, thanks to prayer to her guardian angel, Natalie. Nancy watched Stacy and Will as Rebecca came to the throne room with clothes for the new princess.

Word had gotten out that there had been a royal birth, but no details. John kissed Jordan on the cheek and went to do his only royal function. Rebecca joined John on the balcony of the palace to present to the people their new princess. Not that anyone could see, John held up Margaret Jeanette and announced it for all to hear, which they could since there was a PA system for him.

Queen Margaret II and I present to you, the people of the United Kingdom, Princess Margaret Jeanette, he announced.

A cheer went up for the birth of the new princess. One of the conservative members of Parliament interrupted a labor member who was speaking to make the announcement. Not everyone was happy about it. Prime Minister Harris and her government weren't since events like this made the queen more popular.

    Chapter 2

    The Children

The children coming into the world was quite an event, considering Jordan's family history of problems having babies. That and children born to a queen is something special in itself. Something seemed to have changed. Jordan didn't have any problems with William's birth. Wonders what praying will get you. William was about nine months old when it was announced that Queen Margaret was expecting her second child. This would be the first time in three generations that the family would have a second child. Jordan didn't have any problems carrying this child, considering she didn't cut back on her schedule. The only problem was when Jordan was stressed out by Prime Minister Harris and went into labor in the throne room. Even then, it was an easy delivery. It was like clockwork. About nine or ten months after having Margaret, Jordan would get pregnant again.

After Margaret came Arthur James. Arthur (Artie) arrived just like William. It was a normal, middle of the night, in hospital arrival. After Artie, Jordan having children would get a little more exciting. Artie was about ten months old when Jordan began to get sick in the morning and realized she was pregnant. The doctors did the tests, and it was announced that yes, the queen was expecting again. This time, after just a few months, Jordan began to show, which was way too soon unless they miscalculated the due date. The doctors ran some tests and did an ultrasound and found out her beginning to show early was due to twins. This bit of news wasn't announced, and Jordan would be watched closer, and she would cut back on her schedule. When she was six months along, Jordan quit her public appearances and would only be seen in the palace. The public followed her pregnancy through twice-a-month bulletins by the doctors, which always said she was fine and there were no complications.

Like all the children, except Margaret, Jordan would go into labor during the middle of the night. The public's first hint that a royal birth was near was the arrival of Queen Grace and Prince Gene at Royal Prince Albert Hospital. That could only mean a royal birth had happened or was near since that was where the queen went to have children. The hospital staff would not confirm that the queen was at the hospital, but she had to be. It was close to her due date, and the maternity ward was blocked off by additional security. Then there was the sudden arrival at the hospital of Sharon Dolan and the nannies with the other children like they had been sent for. Nurse Sidney told Jordan that the children had arrived at the hospital to see mom and the new babies, so she needed to have them. It was like this was what Jordan was waiting for. Jordan's water broke, and she was ready. Dr. Gordon was going to allow Dr. Grace Goodchild to handle the birth but was going to be close by. Dr. Goodchild was brought onto the staff because of the number of female patients he now had, and she was a fairly new doctor. As Dr. Goodchild sat there, ready to begin the delivery, Jordan had a large contraction, and Charlotte Lilly came into the world with a loud cry. Jordan and John both were crying for joy as Dr. Goodchild handed Dr. Gordon a little child, which he pronounced as a girl. With a sigh of relief, Dr. Goodchild sat back, exhausted, and took a deep breath. Nurse Sidney took the little girl from Dr. Gordon to show Mom and Dad as Dr. Gordon leaned over and whispered to Dr. Goodchild.

Take a deep breath, Grace, he said. You're not done yet.

    What! she exclaimed in surprise.

You got one more to deliver, he replied.

I've never delivered twins, she said as she began to get nervous.

It's just like delivering one child, Dr. Gordon said and joked. You just need another diaper.

Now Dr. Goodchild was a little panicky as she got up closer to deliver the second child.

Suddenly, Dr. Goodchild said, I can see its feet.

That was all she said before Dr. Gordon pulled her out of the way and took her place, with Nurse Sidney coming over to assist. Dr. Goodchild didn't know what she had done wrong, but Dr. Gordon and Nurse Sidney were now in charge. The second child came into the world just as quickly as the first but without a loud cry. John hadn't even noticed that there had been a problem since he was with another nurse, cleaning up little Charlotte.

John, Dr. Gordon called out, here you go.

John turned around to have Nurse Sidney and handed him another little girl. Then Dr. Gordon took a deep breath and let out a sigh.

Okay, Grace, he said, you can finish up with the afterbirth.

She asked, What was the problem?

Teaching point, Dr. Gordon said, Twins are supposed to both come out head first. If they don't, then you need to try to turn them and watch to make sure the cord isn't around their neck.

The rest of the delivery went the way it was supposed to. All that was left to do was name the new princesses. Jordan and John knew they were having twins but not what their sex was, so they had a number of names picked out. The first to enter the world was Charlotte Lilly Pembrooke Greene, followed by Isabella Rose Pembrooke Greene. Now that the children had names, John could do his only official function, present the children to the people. So out they went, John, Dr. Gordon, Dr. Goodchild, several nurses, and the girls. To have a little fun with the press, John went out alone and announced.

He said, I would like to announce that Queen Margaret has given birth. This led to a cheer from the crowd and press. John let the crowd quiet down, and then he continued, holding up Charlotte, saying, I present to the people of Great Britain my daughter, Charlotte Lilly.

The people cheered the news as something seemed wrong.

Dr. Gordon said something to John, and he replied, Oh wait, like there was a mistake.

Then John announced as he held up Isabella, I present to the people of Great Britain my daughter, Isabella Rose.

Now the people were confused that Prince John didn't know what his daughter's name was.

Someone in the crowd called out, Your Highness, can't you remember what you named the child?

John called back, No, I haven't. Queen Margaret and I are welcoming twin daughters to the family.

This caused the crowd to cheer wildly as John held both of the girls for people to see, and so the press could take pictures. There would be official photos of the girls alone, together, with Grandma and Grandpa, Momma and Poppa, and their siblings.

The family would continue to grow when, two years later, John Jordan arrived with little fanfare, and two and half years later when Katherine Elizabeth arrived. Once Katherine had arrived, Jordan quit having children with no explanation. Occasionally, on Katherine's birthday, the press would ask why the queen quit having children. No explanation was given to the press as Jordan and John didn't think it was any of their business. In actuality, no one knew why Jordan quit having children. Maybe it was Mother Nature telling Jordan that she had had enough children. Regardless why, Jordan and John would continue to be devoted parents and raise their children the best that they could.

    Chapter 3

    Are You Kidding

Ever since they were married, Jordan and John returned to the US twice a year to see his family. At first, it was for a week or two. After the children were born, they extended their stay to allow his parents to get grandma and grandpa time. This time, when they returned, the trip was special and became controversial. The young Princess Katherine was just a month old and was making her American debut. The other children were somewhat older when they came to see Grandma and Grandpa for the first time. This trip was not different from others. They went to their Michigan
