THEIR romance captured the imagination of the world from the moment it became public knowledge. Prince Harry, royal wild child and beloved by many in the UK, had fallen hard for a brunette beauty from the US and people couldn’t get enough.

Meghan Markle was everything Harry’s exes were not. The glamorous actress had a career in showbiz, hadn’t so much as a drop of noble blood and was a biracial divorcee.

The world was entranced. Here was a modern-day fairytale that made even Americans take note of the royals, and the couple’s every move was watched.

Of course, by now the dramatic highs and lows of their relationship with the royal family are well-known and things didn’t turn out quite the way the couple or The Firm thought they would.

But what has remained despite all the scandal, is the fact that Harry and Meghan are still very much in love. They’re happily settled in California with their children, Archie and Lilibet, and pursue private commercial deals and charity projects that touch their hearts.

For many, Harry giving up the wealth and privilege that comes with being a senior royal in the UK is the ultimate sacrifice for love. As one social media user put it: “He chose her.”

HER EARLY LIFE

Rachel Meghan Markle was born on 4 August 1981 in Los Angeles, the only child of Hollywood lighting director Thomas Markle (78) and yoga teacher Doria Ragland (66).

Her parents separated when she was six and she lived with her mom. She spent plenty of time with her dad too and often accompanied him on the set of the popular sitcom Married… With Children, where he worked. It was here that she developed her love for acting.
