Shade (Intergalactic Dating Agency) - Demelza Carlton

    ONE

Fear infused the small apartment like a miasma, seeping out into the corridor where Shade stood beside a wheeled crate almost as high as he was. He palmed the door controls. Delivery for Mrs Puck! he shouted, in the tone he'd cultivated through years of working search and rescue. The tone that refused to be ignored and demanded to be obeyed.

A moment later, the door whirred open to reveal a pixie woman with a chubby toddler on her hip. We didn't order no package, she said, squinting at him.

Delivery from Hera, Shade said, pushing his way into the small apartment.

Fear thickened, until he could have eaten it with a spoon. Shade sipped at it, feeling his sigils burn as they lit up in approval at the feast Mrs Puck provided. He didn't allow himself more than a sip – fear was his ally here.

Mrs Puck backed up against the wall. He's not here. Haven't seen him for more'n two weeks. It's just me and my son, struggling to make ends meet on our own, with him gone. Her lip trembled as her big eyes filled with tears.

This was where the first Enforcer had stumbled, Shade knew. He had a young boy about the same age as young Master Puck. He'd told Hera he couldn't find the family.

I know. But Hera wants to see him, so you and the little one are coming with me, Shade said. Skimming from the stock is bad enough, but cutting it with salt? Shade shook his head.

Salt is harmless! Mrs Puck said.

Not if you're a carcolh. Especially not a carcolh who's an old friend of Hera's, Shade drawled.

He needed it for Robin! He's sickly, and the trees in the Arbor Dome just don't give off enough magic, so he needs the fairy dust so his growth won't be stunted! Mrs Puck insisted, holding out the pudgy toddler like a shield.

The boy just struggled to be let down. His frustration and annoyance were barely a blip in Shade's senses – which they certainly would not be if the boy were under the influence of the emotional amplifier known as fairy dust.

Where we're going, Hera will take good care of him. At least until your husband turns up, Shade said, lifting the lid off the crate. Put him inside and things won't have to get ugly.

Her lip trembled again, but Mrs Puck knew when she was beaten. She lowered the boy into the box, where he began to pound the walls with considerable glee.

    One down, one to go.

Shade scooped up a few toys from the selection strewn around the floor and tossed them in after the boy.

Teddy! the boy burbled happily as he seized the worn bear that Shade had suspected was a particular favourite.

Now it's your turn, Shade said, gesturing toward the crate.

Please let us go. I'll do anything, she whimpered.

Get in, Mrs Puck. No harm will come to you or the boy as long as your husband cooperates. It was the truth, even if she didn't believe it. Mr Puck might not fare so well, seeing as he was the one who'd stolen and cut the drugs he was paid to distribute, but that was Mr Puck's problem.

She tore open her shirt so her breasts spilled out, encased in a lacy bra. You can do anything you want to me, sir. Anything at all. I beg you, just tell Hera you never found us. She dropped to her knees, pouting her lips so any red-blooded man wouldn't be able to think about anything but those lips wrapped around his cock as she gave him what the second and third Enforcer had described as a blowjob that was better than heaven.

Shade couldn't remember the last time he'd had a blowjob, heavenly or otherwise. But he also wasn't low enough to stoop to accepting one from another man's wife, even if the man was lower than scum. Besides, how many cocks had this woman sucked to help her husband? Or maybe she was doing this to protect her son. Hardly what he'd call a faithful wife.

Maybe later, he said to her. Now in the box, or I'll make you. He leaned into her fear, amplifying it as only an incubus could do. Other Enforcers might have lifted the woman, kicking and screaming, into her prison, but Shade didn't need to. Her own fear would do the job for him.

Mrs Puck made her climb as sensual as she could, showing enough flesh for her performance to qualify as an exotic cabaret dance, even if her pale face and rapid breathing spoke of more fear than lust, but Shade remained unmoved. Finally, when she reached the floor of the crate, he slid the lid back into place and activated the knockout gas that would keep Mrs Puck and her son asleep until he'd delivered them to their temporary new apartment. A place the Watch and Mr Puck would never find them, until Hera gave the order for them to be released.

Shade glanced at the time and cursed. He had to hurry, because he had another appointment after this, and he couldn't afford to be late.

    TWO

Ivana's mother had taught her three things in life.

One, that no man would ever have enough stamina, or a big enough dick and bank balance to satisfy her completely, so to never rely on one man for everything.

Two, that the greatest freedom was surrendering all control to someone else, so you could never be held responsible for your actions.

And three, that she could never surrender completely to anyone, so should always have either a backup plan or an escape plan, preferably both.

Which is why when Ivana stepped into the stasis pod that would carry her to the Colony, she'd been armed with the best vibrator money could buy in
