ACORNS OF ADVENT Four Poems about People Who Played Important Supporting Roles in the Life of Jesus
Don't worry if your tasks are small
And your rewards are few.
Remember that the mighty oak
Was once a nut like you!
Anonymous poem, as quoted by Bullwinkle J. Moose.
What is an acorn? An acorn is a seed, the seed of an oak tree. Plant an acorn, and eventually there will be another oak tree.
An acorn is also a symbol, a symbol of something that starts out small and eventually becomes incredibly large, strong and mighty. As the saying goes, "Mighty oaks from little acorns grow!" (not to be confused with the saying, "Mighty aches from little toe corns grow!")
People can be acorns. People may do things that are seemingly small and insignificant, but what they originally do grows into something that goes way, way beyond their original action.
This book is four poems, with four accompanying brief sermons, about people who are acorns, Elizabeth (and Zechariah), Mary, Joseph and John the Baptist. They are people who had roles in the life of Jesus. They are people whose roles are necessary. They are people whose roles are small when compared to the final result. They are people who played their roles well. They are acorns.

People Who Played Important Supporting Roles in the Life of Jesus
Don’t worry if your tasks are small

People can be acorns. People may do things that are seemingly small and insignificant, but what they originally do grows into something that goes way, way beyond their original action.
This book is four poems, with four accompanying brief sermons, about people who are acorns, Elizabeth (and Zechariah), Mary, Joseph and John the Baptist. They are people who had roles in the life of Jesus. They are people whose roles are necessary. They are people whose roles are small when compared to the final result. They are people who played their roles well. They are acorns.
These acorns inspire and encourage us. They are examples of trust, obedience, steadfastness and courage. They tell us that, even though we may never do some great thing, nonetheless, God can and will use our humble efforts. God can and will bless even a cup of cold water given in Jesus name.
And so I give you Elizabeth (and Zechariah), Mary, Joseph and John the Baptist, Acorns of Advent.
ELIZABETH, ZECHARIAH AND OSCAR
Zechariah and Elizabeth were husband and wife.
For years they were married; had a pretty good life,
‘Cept they had no children, no children at all.
Oh, that made poor ‘Liz’beth feel worthless and small.
Now Zack was a priest in Jerus’lem, he was.
One day he went into the temple because,
While the people prayed outside, inside he would burn
