CHAPTER 1
"H e’s one tall glass of sweet chocolate milk."
Mia looked up from her computer as those words rolled off the tongue of her co-worker, Traci. Walking through their department was the most handsome man she had seen…ever. He was tall, toned and Traci was right, his skin the color of chocolate milk.
Who is that?
Mia mouthed, not taking her eyes off him as he entered her boss’ office, closing the door behind him.
That, my dear, is whom we call Mr. Spectacular.
Traci smiled, pretending to fan herself.
Does Mr. Spectacular have a name?
Mia was curious why she hadn’t seen him around before now. She certainly would have remembered something that nice. She may be currently in a love drought, but someone like that could pull her out.
Alan Wright. From what I understand, he heads up special projects.
Really?
Mia’s thoughts drifted off to deep, desperate kisses, sweaty bodies intertwined and crumpled clothing piled on the floor. Her phone ringing quickly interrupted these thoughts. The caller ID read Suzanne Jones. Why would she be calling? Mr. Spectacular is in her office. Oh gaud, could she read her mind? Is she calling to tell her to get her mind off him and back on her work?
Yes,
Mia answered.
Could you come into my office, please?
Suzanne asked.
Of course, I’ll be right there.
After taking a deep breath, running her hands through her blonde hair and straightening her skirt, Mia headed for Suzanne’s office. She probably wanted her help with something. She couldn’t imagine it being anything else. Mia opened the door and her eyes locked on Mr. Spectacular sitting in the chair opposite Suzanne.
Mia Lawrence, this is Alan Wright. Alan, this is Mia Lawrence.
Mia shook the hand he offered her, noticing how hers disappeared in his. They were warm, smooth, and his nails perfectly manicured.
It’s a pleasure, Mia.
She couldn’t believe it. There he was; not only a flawless body and the most beautiful milk chocolate colored skin, but a smile that would melt any woman’s defenses. After hearing his voice, Mia was positive her cheeks were bright red from the fire smoldering in her core. Mr. Spectacular was the perfect name.
Alan.
Mia said his name.
Have a seat.
Suzanne pointed to the chair next to Alan. I would like to let you in on what Alan and I have been talking about.
Mia was having problems concentrating. She didn’t know what was happening. She nodded and did her best to listen as Suzanne explained.
Alan is heading up a special project. I’m sure you’ve heard about the new health and fitness area that’s in the works for the entire company. Alan will need some support from our accounting group. Make sure everyone is on track. Completing their individual assignments and training on time and, most important, within budget. Your accounting and organizational skills are perfect for this project. I would like you to be that support and give Alan whatever he needs in the way of help.
Suzanne leaned back in her chair, waiting for Mia to answer.
Of course.
Mia managed a smile. I would be happy to help.
Oh, it would be my pleasure to give him whatever he needs in the way of anything…Stop it, Mia! Don’t go there. Remember Michael. You don’t know anything about him except the fact he makes your body burn and your mind go in directions which should be illegal. You can’t let that happen again. You have to be purely professional.
Wonderful,
Alan replied. We can start tomorrow morning. I’m going to need your help for several months, maybe longer. We’ll probably have to pull some late nights, a few business lunches, and I’m sure some travel. I know the holidays are coming up, so I hope you don’t mind being away from friends and family during that time.
Mia couldn’t believe
