Gospel In Your Character - Harrison Johnson Uche
Introduction
The Gospel is the goodness of Jesus’ earthly ministry. The word Gospel is derived from the Greek word euaggelion and it means good news. The word Gospel is also a term used over 75 times in the New Testament talking about the life of Jesus Christ and how he died for mankind according the scripture and rose again on the third day and ascended to heaven.
The Gospel is the good news that Jesus is risen and is alive today, living in our heart and in heaven; and has given us power by his holy spirit to make others believe in him and turn to the father through our character.
Act of the Apostles 1 V 8: But you shall receive power, after that Holy Ghost is come upon you and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samaria and in almost part of the earth.
Jesus has given us power by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to the whole world, that he (Jesus) is risen and living in us through our character.
Jesus wants to be seen in us every moment, so that the world will come to his knowledge through our Character; that is what the Gospel is all about - living the life of Jesus in our Character at all points in time.
What Is Character
According to formal American president, Abraham Lincoln, Reputation is a shadow. Character is the tree
Our character is much more than just what we try to display for others to see. Our character is who we are, even when no one is watching. Good character is doing the right thing because it is right to do what is right.
The dictionary definition says that character is a complex of mental and ethical traits
that those traits, or qualities are distinctive to an individual and that they are inbuilt into an individual’s life. It is those character qualities that determine the person's response in any given situation.
Character is our personality, secretly or physically that people will see and know if it is good or bad. Character is what makes you very popular in a positive and negative way.
Character is also like a light that will reflect, no matter how the glory covers in the sky. Also, it is like a smoke; that no matter how long you try to cover it, it must surface with time. But one cannot say his or her character is good or bad until another person does.
Some characters are inborn or natural. Character can also be changed according to the environment, including the influences of peer groups, but we have a choice to preserve their natural status and integrity or shape them to our need and greed, regard or regardless of right or wrong.
The character that is inborn
is the part of us that is in rebellion to God; this kind of inborn character can only be changed through new birth
(salvation) through Jesus Christ, after which the person will now have a new nature through the word of God.
However, characters such as diligence, alertness, truthfulness, envy, anger, pride, patience, impatience, drunkenness, fornication, hatred, variance, emulation, wealth, idolatry, strife, revilement etc. are not inborn in the sense that they cannot be changed. The choices a person makes on a moment-by-moment basis are what determine how his/ her character will develop. Example, whether
