Preface
It was the last week of the school year when I found myself caught up in an unexpected conflict with my girlfriend. She was everything to me—my angel, my confidante, and my best friend. Little did I know that our encounter that day would turn out to be quite a difficult one.
As the final school bell rang, I approached Willma, my girlfriend, with a casual greeting. Hey, Willma,
I said, trying to start a normal conversation. How was your day?
Her immediate response, devoid of the usual warmth, sent a shiver down my spine. Justin, I have a confession to make,
she said, her tone laced with unease.
Whenever she got straight to the point instead of answering a simple question, it was a clear sign that something significant was about to be revealed. My heart pounded as I replied, trying to sound reassuring, You can tell me anything.
With a deep breath, she confessed, I don't know how to put this, but I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a lesbian. I want nothing more to do with our relationship.
The words hit me like a ton of bricks. It felt as though the ground had shifted beneath my feet. What?
I stammered in disbelief. Have you been cheating on me with someone else?
I asked, immediately regretting the question as it left my lips.
