    A Memory

    ––––––––

Don’t cry, Ace, don’t cry, Ian said as he wiped the tears off my cheeks. We’ll see each other again.

Yeah, maybe. I hiccupped. But when we see each other again, you’ll be famous and won’t remember your best friend.

I can’t ever forget the girl who schooled me in poker. Ian laughed. Hey, I have an idea!

    Yeah? I sniffled.

I’ll prove it to you that Hollywood won’t ever change me and you’ll always have Joker. When we see each other again, if I recognize you and call you Ace, you can ask me my deepest secret, which I have never shared with anyone but I’ll tell you.

I touched the silver bell earring and smiled. It was a gift. I think it goes well with the snowflakes I’m wearing.

It does. Speaking of snowflakes. Do you think our director invited famous people to see the play? Wouldn’t it be awesome if they would ask who designed the stage and props and hired us for movie sets?

That’s the dream, right? I bumped my hip against hers. Let’s go check on the lights.

Funny, do I see the geeks thinking they will get into Hollywood? Vera asked.

I cringed. Vera and I never got along. She thought she was going to be the next star of Hollywood. I thought she would be the next janitor. Maybe she was the most beautiful girl in our department, but she was vile as hell.

    Charla growled. "That’s
