    Foreword

The Power of Divine Commissioning in Fulfilling a Vision is timely, biblically insightful, inspiring, and challenging. It is an encouraging word that speaks to every reader of how God chooses, calls, changes, and commissions ordinary people to achieve extraordinary feats for divine purposes. Dr. Nnaji reflects on the lives of such enigmatic people and identifies the power behind them from a biblical point of view. Many readers will see themselves in the inspirational scope of The Power of Divine Commissioning in Fulfilling a Vision.

My hope is that many readers with divine visions will find and read the book and also share its content with others.

    Preface

The Power of Divine Commissioning in Fulfilling a Vision exposes divine commissioning as the most important requirement for the fulfillment of a God-given vision.

Many people with impactful visions stifle those visions due to fear arising from their perceived weaknesses, inadequacies, or adverse circumstances. This is so due to ignorance of the power behind their calling, which is unleashed with commissioning. The Power of Divine Commissioning in Fulfilling a Vision seeks to inspire such people, among others, to pursue their God-given visions. It unravels the concept of divine commissioning and highlights the power thereof in the lives of some great achievers drawn from the Bible, history, and the contemporary period. Divine commissioning is shown as the mystery and most needful requirement for fulfilling a vision. Without it, the pursuit of a vision is futile. It is what bestows on the vision bearer the authority and power to pursue and succeed in his or her ministry.

This all-important and powerful phenomenon has been largely underrated and overlooked (and sometimes even denied) in discussions and writings on the pursuit and fulfillment of visions. This is the gap this book seeks to fill. It will enlighten and teach reluctant and discouraged vision bearers, among others, to recognize and rely on the power of divine commissioning for success. This power is like the momentum of a fired bullet that enables it to penetrate anything that stands in its way. The book acknowledges that it is God who works in us, both to will and to do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

Do you feel a sense of mission? Do you feel so unworthy of the task you are called to accomplish? Are you pursuing a God-given vision or shrinking from doing so out of fear? Do your circumstances contradict your vision? This book is for you. Indeed, the message of the book will meet and inspire every reader where they are in their journey to fulfill their calling.

    Introduction

People mostly talk of vision as if it were their own creation—without recognizing it is given to them. Vision is given. It is a gift. It is birthed in a person. But many people do not recognize or acknowledge the Giver. They do not acknowledge the source. The truth is: every worthwhile vision is divine—a gift from God.

Indeed, vision is God’s project meant to benefit humans. It is always meant to solve a problem or meet a need. But God will usually need someone to work with in order to execute it. And He chooses anybody, as He wills. When God chooses a person to partner with, He births the vision of the project in him or her. And at the right time, He commissions the person with power to execute it. It is God who gives both the vision and the power to implement the vision. And the power of execution always comes with the commissioning of the chosen individual. This is what this book seeks to highlight.

The Power of Divine Commissioning in Fulfilling a Vision exposes the concept of divine commissioning and highlights the power therein. It also explains how and when divine commissioning takes place. The book attributes the successful implementation of vision to the power inherent in divine commissioning. It, therefore, contends that power is actually the secret behind great achievers. That power provides the energy, drive, courage, and perseverance needed to weather the storms of driving a vision. The book acknowledges that it is God who works in us, both to will and to do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

To validate its claim, the eleven-chapter book examines the lives of many great achievers in the Bible, history, and the contemporary period and highlights divine commissioning and the empowerment it brought to bear in those lives. Among other things, the book posits that someone divinely commissioned cannot be stopped and that those who horrify the world with humongous crimes are not commissioned by God.

God chooses an ordinary person, births a vision in him, and empowers him during commissioning to set to work to make extraordinary achievements. It is that empowerment that transforms the regular individual into an extraordinary person and a great achiever. This book details how it all works.

    Chapter 1

    The Making of Great Achievers

God creates people and assigns each person a task or tasks to fulfill according to His will. He does not send anyone into the world without a purpose. We are all His handiwork created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God ordained beforehand for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). This means that every man’s purpose is good and carefully assigned to him beforehand. God said to Jeremiah, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV). This is true of everyone created by God. He sets everyone apart and appoints them to fulfill a purpose for Him here on earth.

The assignments vary and are distinct in time, scope, complexity, and level of impact. Some people undertake assignments that are tougher, more impactful, and far-reaching in nature, while others undertake ones that are regular, less impactful, and less challenging in nature. Those in the former category become great achievers and famous for their achievements, while those in the latter are hardly noticed and recognized. Some assignments are brief, some are extended, while others span anywhere in-between. Yet, every assignment is good and important to God.

    It is much
