Farewell of the Circus

About this ebook
With a broad stroke of honesty and lightness of mind, Laura Granada delivers one of her most honest and raw works yet. As with all of her work, what the reader finds in these pages involve pains of the past mixed with gratitude for lessons and hope for the present and future.
She questions all the madness around us, reflecting on the illusory nature of the mundane as well as the grandiose paths we find ourselves on. Puppet masters abound. We walk through a performative society, where critical thinking is drowned by noise. Nevertheless, she reflects on lessons from the show, because the show continues...

About the Author

The heat saturated the silence of the afternoon.
The little girl in red found a body,
under the greenish blanket of the garden:
a hummingbird assassinated by sunset.
Between her little hands,
the cold sensation
of knowing oneself dead.
An everlasting blue sky kissed the roofs of the town.
Sheepskin thunderclouds plowing through
the space and time.
Flocks of blackbirds and tufts
encouragingly proclaiming the start of the day.
In the willow, a soft rustle,
a slight snort,
a crackle of heartbeat,
a snap of silence.
Today is a day to be born.
The indecorous clowns march in the distance,
toothless lions,
lame dancers,
revealed magicians.
They depart now, laughter and comedy,
life and resurrection.
Joy and revelry vanish in terror,
extravagance and debauchery.
It flees then, the existence of my kisses,
of your hug,
of the tear,
of the neighbor
of my grandmother,
of the stranger,
of your dog.
All must dissipate
when the ruling hand is broken
to the mournful puppets:
The circus packs up today and is leaving town.
