    About the Author

    Chapter One

Shit! Thirty-six year old Samantha Sterns muttered between her cold chattering teeth.

It was close to Christmas Eve, and Samantha, who was called the vampire slayer, had locked herself out of her very warm blue Volkswagen bug. Her day had been long and tiring. She spent most of the day walking the swears of the busy streets finding sleeping vampires that terrorized the city carrying wooden stakes and holy water.

As the sun set for the day, her body ached as she had been thrown three feet by a ubervamp that she had been chasing after for the past month. She found herself alone, as another snowflake fell on her black glove. She had just locked herself out of her car with it running and her phone was inside. She was so tired. She was ready to call it a night, but now she was stuck. She would go after the monsters and daemons that came out at night.

The wind was howling and she had decided to leave work around 10 o’clock pm or she would never get home. She had already spent the night before in her office and was in the same outfit as the day before. She was wearing dark blue jeans and a black top that was wrinkled from sleeping at her desk for only four hours. She hated driving in the snow, and would usually walk, but the temperatures were below zero, and she could easily get frostbite, which she had done just the month before when she was too stubborn not to drive home.

She knew the doors had frozen shut and she was now worried she would have to walk home. She was not in the mood tonight to kill vampires or encounter anything as they would be slayed within seconds. She decided the only thing she could do was knock on the neighbors door that were next to her work. She knocked on three different doors. She knew that someone might think it was weird for someone to be knocking on their door so late at night, but she was hoping that no one would call the cops on her. She finally made it to the last door and knocked louder than she had on the other doors as she was getting frustrated.

Finally, on the last door she found a hunky young man with Brown hair, blue eyes, and a southern accent.

You need help? he asked her.

She was so cold, as she had left her coat in the car that she was freezing. She knew self defense as she had to learn that while working in the CIA, but she was keeping that secret if he turned out to be a masked murderer.

Yes, I need to get home, it’s freezing out, she stated.

He looked relatively wealthy, as he was wearing a blue suit, with a white button down shirt and a black tie.

She smiled. She had been so frantic that she was grateful someone was awake to help her. Most of her coworkers had returned home, and the night shift workers had arrived. She worked some nights, but not many, and she had more friends on the day shift than the night. She saw him return with a coat hanger,
