Introduction

As a professional intuitive and spiritual teacher who’s been practicing for more than twenty years, I’ve spent most of my life helping people trust their intuition through the practice of Reiki. When we trust our vibes, we access powerful guidance from within that leads us to discover and fulfil our life’s purpose, leading to greater happiness and contentment.

Knowing what I know today, my spiritual journey began before I was born and remained a mystery until I was twenty-three years old. Since then, significant life events led me on a search to find more meaning in my life and to gain insights on how I could live a more empowered life and assist others in the same way. This journey gradually led me to the practice of Reiki, which has had a profound and life-changing effect on me as well as thousands of students that I have personally taught over the past two decades.

I have great respect for all Reiki masters, mentors and teachers, and although Reiki is the foundation of my teaching, this is not just another Reiki book. Rather, in this book I will share with you how becoming a Reiki Master led me to open my heart, create deep, meaningful connections with others and answer the call of my inner knowing – skills that would help me through some of the most terrifying and heart-breaking experiences. I have experienced so many miracles, big and small, throughout my Reiki journey. Early Beginnings

Being Captain Starlight

My spiritual journey began when I was twenty-three years old. I landed a really cool job, one that would change the course of my whole life. I had been studying and acting since I was in high school (with some small success, but I’ll share more about that later in the book), and this job was my dream job. It was at the Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. I was to be the first female Captain Starlight in Perth, with the delightful role of brightening the lives of seriously ill children. In addition to my role as Captain Starlight, I was appointed to be the Assistant Manager of the Starlight Express Room (SER), a bright and colourful room located on the top floor of the hospital, as well as the host of the Starlight TV Program.

I first worked alongside a man called Otto Kamenzin who was a very charismatic character. I had a little crush on him, however I was too professional to let him know, although I’m sure he had his suspicions. Working with Otto was fun; he had a smile that would light up the entire room, and a spirit that was larger than life. Both Otto and I would entertain the children via live streaming from the SER to a TV above the children’s hospital beds, playing games and having fun and laughing at ourselves and each other. As Captain Starlight I learned how to paint faces, do magic tricks, make funny videos, tell stories and have live chats on the phone with children who couldn’t make it into the SER because they were too unwell. I did many crazy things, all for the sake of making the children laugh and adding a little joy into their day. Once I even did the chicken dance on the side of a main road to fits of giggles from the children watching me from the window of the SER. Even though the children viewed me as their super friend, I in turn, felt so extremely blessed to interact and spend time with these children. It was a joy-filled time in my life, and one I reflect on with great appreciation, especially now while writing this book.

So, what does Starlight have to do with intuition and Reiki? This is the time where my Reiki journey began. If it wasn’t for the role of Captain Starlight, I don’t think I would have heard the call to learn, practise, and eventually become a
