Wild Friends in the City - Maggie Cedarberg
Chapter 1
Grampa was right! Caramel rolls do do the trick.
Oh, hey, I’m Gordy. You maybe remember me…if you read the first book Wild Friends of Wilderness Way.
Grampa, Gail and I went on a super cool trip into another world. It’s almost impossible to believe. If I hadn’t been there myself, I wouldn’t believe it.
We knew that when we got home, we’d want to tell Mom and Dad all about it. Grampa said a good night’s rest and caramel rolls would help calm Mom and Dad down so they would say yes to our plan. Because see, we told our new wild friends we would go places with them. We thought that Mom and Dad might freak out when they learned about our wild friends.
We got home late at night so everyone went right to bed.
When we got up this morning Mom did have a kind-of fit. Because…there, sitting in the birdbath were five of our new friends from Wilderness Way! That’s when Grampa offered the caramel rolls.
After a few bites, Grampa began the story. Mom and Dad gasped; they stared wide-eyed; they said, I don’t believe it!

; Grampa will always be with us.
I pretty much just smiled and nodded.
Finally, after a second caramel roll and more coffee, Mom and Dad changed their tune! They were all for it. YAY!
Do you want to meet them?
Grampa asked.
You bet!
said Dad.
Mom was shaky and her eyes got wet, but she said, Yes.
Chapter 2
So, Grampa opened the kitchen door, and our friends flew to him and perched on his shoulders and arms and Willy Woodpecker rode in on Grampa’s head.
Mom stood with her hands on her cheeks and kept saying, Oh my, oh my.
Dad stood stiff as a board, his hands on his head, no words.
Gail wiggled and
