    This is proving to be exceedingly difficult in the midst of major power shifts within itself among its many member states, and between the superpowers in the world at large.

    How EU develops its policies towards these four important issues is critical to its existence and its future development. And unless these policies are rational and effective, there will be terrible repercussions for Europe and the rest of the world.

    EU's future is in its own hands.

    EU needs to make a wise decision amid all the daunting challenges that it now faces.

      1. Foreword

      The EU Dilemma: EU's Critical Policy Choices Toward Ukraine, Russia, China and USA

      There is no question that the European Union, EU, is at a critical junction of its development. It is facing the dilemma of how to deal with four important issues related to Ukraine, Russia, China and USA.

      This is proving to be exceedingly difficult in the midst of major power shifts within itself among its many member states, and between the superpowers in the world at large.

      How EU develops its policies towards these four important issues is critical to its existence and its future development. And unless these policies are rational and effective, there will be terrible repercussions for Europe and the rest of the world.

      2. Ukraine war

      There is little doubt that the Russia-Ukraine war that started in February 2020 is a classic proxy war that resulted from the serious rivalry between NATO/USA and Russia. While it has elicited a great deal of anguish, fear and condemnation from the many EU countries, the real victims are the hapless Ukrainians who have become the sacrificial lamb in this terrible conflict.
