Chapter 1  

So what do you wish for, cowboy? Cole Charming’s brother Evan placed his hand on Cole’s shoulder as he overlooked the tall Christmas Wishing Tree in the barn hall.

The festive decorations illuminated the cozy rustic barn hall.

An upbeat tempo of the holiday hymn Joy to the World blared through the speakers. The mood was electric. Hopeful.

He wished he could start all over again. That’s what he wished for.

This cowboy did not feel he deserved a second chance at happiness. He’d messed up in his relationships in the past. Sure, he loved women and he loved to flirt. That was his style. He just never got too close to any of them. As soon as things got serious, he’d distanced himself as he always did, and that drove his exes into the arms of another man.

He was beginning to wonder what was going on in his head.

He was a ladies’ man who dated a lot in the past but never liked to commit to a serious relationship. He was out of there like a house on fire.

He’d been abandoned as a child and ended up in foster care until the Charmings took him in and adopted him. He was thankful to be a part of a caring family but he still had issues when it came to commitment. Serious issues.

Guests already started to file into the place. The Charmings held their annual Christmas barn dance every year. But this year, they were also hosting an anniversary dinner. They didn’t always rent out the barn hall, but this time was different.

The Christmas Wishing Tree had significance. It was where a young woman during the second world war came to wish that her beau would be home safely and for the war to end. Her wishes came true and they got married right here in the barn 75 years ago. What a love story. Well, at least his grandparents and parents thought so. They wanted the couple to relive that moment and have their dinner there.

Cole thought since the latest episode of his TV show wrapped up filming in Hollywood until after the holidays, he’d return back home to Mistletoe, to spend Christmas with his family and friends. Especially, his good friend Mike who was organizing the event with his sister, Katie.

Just then he felt a sweet sensation slide inside him thinking about Katie.
