About this ebook

Ancient Egypt. XIV century BC. Pharaoh Amenhotep III rules Egypt (Ta-Kemet). Fearing a conspiracy, he decides to move the capital of the kingdom from Memphis (Inebu-Hedj) to Avaris (Hut-Waret). He entrusts the construction of the royal palace in Avaris to his eldest son and heir Thutmose. The young prince finds the ruins of the legendary Behdet, in which the solar-like Ra once ruled. More precisely, he finds the ruins of the Basalt Palace, which was the Abode of the Gods in ancient times.
Thutmose comprehends ancient secrets with the help of the ‘The Book of Gateways’ and he sees the distant past. The priests proclaim him to be the living incarnation of Horus, the God of Light. Thutmose is at the pinnacle of glory. The priests give him the Golden Armor of Horus and the Ark of Might. This is the weapon of the divine Ra, with the help of which Osiris was avenged many centuries ago and the insidious Set was destroyed. The heir to the throne cannot even imagine how much these sacred artifacts can drastically change his life and influence the course of further events.

Initiation at the Million Years Temple

    Chapter 18

For several days the erpator was in thought. Finally, he ordered the head scribe to appear and dictated to him a letter intended for Aye, High Priest of Inebu-Hedj.

In his letter, Thutmose stated in detail that he wanted to devote himself to the service of the gods. O intends to become the priest of Hut-Waret (of course, the high priest in view of his position), the city which he actually revived anew, raising from oblivion after two centuries of oblivion.

Aye was not slow to send a reply letter in which he fully approved the decision of the erpator. Since, in his opinion, the dignity of the High Priest of Hut-Waret will only strengthen the power and influence of Thutmose as the heir to the throne, not only in the city itself, but throughout Egypt. At the same time, the religious rank will by no means deprive the erpator of any secular privileges, because the priest, especially the High Priest, has the right to marry, have children, and take an active part in government. In other words, the High Priest does not deprive himself of any earthly joys.

Thutmose mentally thanked Aye for his support and understanding: he had long seen in the High Priest Inebu-Hedj a reliable and devoted person to the throne, on whom he could rely in difficult times without fear.

In the evening, the daytime autumn heat subsided. From the numerous canals generously fed by the waters of the Nile, penetrating the city of Yamu like blood vessels, a breath of coolness blew. Erpator summoned Khafre, whom he also initiated into his plans. The priest, listening attentively to Thutmose and guessing what exactly prompted the erpator to decide to devote himself to serving the gods, carefully said:

I never once asked you, Eye of the Sun (erpator), about what you saw when you passed through the Gate… the priest remarked cautiously.

I really don’t know if it’s worth telling about this… the erpator replied embarrassedly.

I would never have dared to send my Ba on such a dangerous journey, the priest confessed. "But, I will not hide, when I studied ‘The Book of Gateways’, I was overcome by such a temptation many times. It’s just that then I was afraid not only that my soul might get lost in the labyrinths of time and not return, but also of what it might see there, emphasizing the last phrase, he pointedly looked at the interlocutor. Tell me, eye of the sun, what did you see? Believe me, for me, as a priest, this is very important…"

The point is that… Thutmose began to speak, but immediately fell silent again.

Have you seen something that the priests do not know? Khafre guessed.

Thutmose nodded, but hastened to add:

I suppose some of the priests know something. Especially those priests who guard the secrets of the gods in Abdju, in the Temple of Millions of Years.

Alas, there is no one left of the priests’ old guard. Raneb destroyed them all, the priest remarked with bitterness in his voice.

But someone after all could remain alive? Thutmose expressed his hope.

    Khafre shrugged his shoulders.

Perhaps someone survived, although I'm not sure. So will you tell me, Eye of the Sun, what did your soul see?

    Thutmose smiled sadly.

Are you sure you really want to know that, priest?

If you, Eye of the Sun, had asked me such a question there, in ancient Behded, I would have answered: No! But now I sincerely say: Yes! For the thirst for knowledge literally burns me from the inside!

Khafre remained in a daze throughout the erpator's story, hardly blinking or breathing. Even when Thutmose uttered the last phrase, he could not come to his senses for a long time.

What do you say, Khafre? Unable to stand it, the erpator broke the painful silence.

The priest started, looked at him with eyes widened from shock, and pleadingly said:

I beg you, eye of the sun, do not tell anyone else about what you saw.

I warned you, priest: my visions do not correspond to the generally accepted ideas about the gods.

I believe you, erpator! And now I'm convinced of this myself.

So what, now you refuse to accompany me to Abdju?

"I didn’t say that, eye of the sun. So, when are you going to leave Yamu?

As soon as possible. Aye, High Priest of Inebu-Hedj and my father's confidante, has already approved my decision to take holy orders. I just have to decide who to take with me to Abdju as an escort.

Undoubtedly, only segers from the closest circle should enter your retinue, erpator.

    * * *

That same evening, Thutmose revealed his plans to his wife. She looked at her husband for a long time, keeping silence. He didn't rush her to answer.

I will not accompany you to Abdju, she finally said with a sigh.

    Why?! Thutmose was surprised.

You know that very well. You want to accept the rite of Initiation only in the hope that visions will return to you in the sacred walls of the ancient temple. Isn't that right?

Thutmose turned away from his wife, hiding his excitement.

Noticing the confusion of her husband, the woman sighed again:

    So I'm right…

You don't understand me, the erpator said sadly.

I am your wife, and I just want to warn you against rash actions. You are trying to comprehend the forbidden, and this is dangerous. Tell me, are you not afraid of the wrath of the gods?

Some days ago I was afraid, but now …

Please, shut up! Nitopris interrupted him rudely. "Don't talk like an apostate, I'm getting scared! However ... Do what you see fit. After all, I am only a woman
