This book was amazing! The characters were easy to understand and relate to, and the even the naming of the characters was thought of deeply. I especially liked the names Herb and Rosemary gardener, as it reflected the plants job so well! Not only this, but I also was immersed into the story about Bella trying to get home, it was truly a nail-bitting, edge-of-my-seat story! I definitely recommend this book, and I hope to see more works from the author in the near future!

Chapter 1

B ella stretched on the couch, preparing to read her new fantasy novel. Her parents, Herb and Rosemary Gardener, were in their sports car, driving to the supermarket to buy groceries. The maid, Hana, was upstairs, probably cleaning the rooms. Her sister, Tori, was in the next town, taking an acting lesson with a professional actor.

Bella opened Cinderella to the first page, her eyes flitting from the left to the right, drinking in the words.

BAM! The front door slammed. Tori came in, furiously fidgeting with her phone.

‘Hi, Bella. I need a drink’. She opened a can of red fizzy punch and sat next to Bella.

‘Shouldn’t you be in the next town, having your acting lessons with Lindsay Larkins?’

‘Yeah’, Tori replied, ‘but she cancelled when I was halfway there’.

‘Bummer’.

‘What are you reading?’ Tori sipped more punch.

Bella flashed her the cover.

‘Wow! A little keen, aren’t you? It’s the holidays’, Tori said.

‘I love fairy tales!’ Bella said eagerly. ‘I wish I could have my own happy-ever-after’.

‘You can earn your fairy tale, sis’. Tori smiled warmly.

At six o’clock, Herb and Rosemary returned home with hamburgers, french fries, and drinks from the burger place down in town.

‘How was acting class, dear?’ Rosemary asked, chewing her veggie burger.

‘Miss Larkins cancelled. Said she had to see her hairdresser’, Tori said, picking pickles out of her cheeseburger.

‘Really!’ Herb gasped. ‘I will call and complain. I pay her good money to teach you’.

‘Did you get Cinderella, dearie?’ Rosemary asked, taking a bite from Herb’s bacon burger.

‘Yes. It was fantastic! I already finished it!’ Bella finished her cheeseburger and started on her fries.

Bella woke the next morning with a thick fairy tale clamped to her chest.

She’d had a very weird dream of a boy she’d never seen before, with shiny black eyes, dark hair, and tan skin. He was very handsome, and in her dream, Bella thought he smelt like lemon and mint.

Two egg white omelets on China plates and another plate of toast sat on the dining table, Hana ambled over, carrying a basket of laundry.

‘Morning’, Bella said.

‘Good morning. Mr. and Mrs. Gardener went into town to purchase some things’, Hana informed her.

Bella barely heard a word. She kept thinking about the boy in her dream.

‘I wish I was in a fairy tale’, she said, staring at a picture of a prince saving his princess from a burning castle in her book.
