Achieve Success By Design - E.D. Brown
INTRODUCTION
Life is complicated, then we die. Life is a complex journey that can sometimes leave us feeling defeated. Life is full of infinite games we journey through, but remember, giving up is never the answer. According to Simon Sinek, in his book, The Infinite Game,
the objective is to keep playing. While no one will be declared a winner when we die, we can still celebrate our successes! Life can be challenging, but we have the power to improve it and make a significant impact on the world. Strive to break free from the monotony and achieve success and fulfillment. With the right mindset, we can identify our life's purpose and vision. Using a system engineering approach, we can understand how to play the game, build a strategy, not lose hope, and engineer our lives for success.
Much like building a system, our life is complex, with different interconnected elements working together. These elements include education, finance, health, relationships, lifestyle, spirituality, career, community, and more. They are interdependent bodies operating as one complex system of systems. It's crucial to consider each of these aspects and how they relate to one another and impact our overall vision. By breaking down our life into these interconnected elements, we can better understand and address each element effectively to create a more cohesive and fulfilling whole.
Systematic Approach
This book is the ultimate guide to help achieve the best life through a systematic engineering approach. It empowers readers with essential tools to accomplish their goals. This guidebook offers a holistic plan to succeed in all aspects of life and attain the ultimate vision. The book adopts a holistic approach to life, considering individuals as complex systems with multiple layers driven by numerous decisions, challenges, and obstacles. Life is a complex system of systems, and we must factor in unexpected variables that may arise at any moment and challenge us. Life is not one-dimensional, and success requires us to consider all aspects, take a comprehensive approach, and create an execution plan that aligns with our purpose and vision.
This book offers a comprehensive system for engineering a successful life. Although success
can mean different things to different people, the process, and tools necessary for success are similar.
Over the past 25 years, I have worked in various industries, leading teams of engineers and successfully delivering solutions using various technologies, software-intensive systems, security systems, mechanical systems, telecommunication systems, and many more. I have developed efficient and complex processes for small to large private and public government industries, transformed legacy systems, modernized outdated practices, and automated manual processes. I have mentored and coached others to do the same, and one thing remains consistent: they all follow a similar pattern. Whether one chooses the waterfall
or agile
method, the underlying process remains consistent and can be applied to achieve success in all aspects of life. The waterfall method involves performing steps within a phase in a linear sequence, with each stage needing to be completed before moving on to the next. Conversely, agile is more iterative and incremental, breaking down a project or goal into smaller iterations for greater flexibility, quicker feedback, and faster delivery. Nevertheless, the fundamental engineering principles remain the same. In this book, I will share the system I used to succeed in life, which I also applied to deliver mechanical, industrial, software, electromechanical,
and information technology solutions. Using system engineering principles, I will provide a guide to help you achieve
