Introduction

The first recorded history of Scotland was during the first century AD, which formed part of the Roman invasion of Britain. The Romans were great record keepers and their scribes chronicled history in a way their subjects never would have done. The Romans incorporated the southern part of Britain into their empire under the name Brittania, but despite their military prowess, were unable to subdue the fierce tribes to the North who were never annexed to Roman Britain.
