Introduction

The Cherokees are indigenous people living in the United States of America. Historically, they owned large tracts of land around modern-day Tennessee, Georgia, and Carolina. The arrival of Europeans heralded a period of displacement, war, and cultural and religious assimilation for the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokees didn't have a word for their spiritual beliefs like religion, everything in their world had a holy significance. Cherokee myths and tales imparted the knowledge and techniques required to preserve the harmony, balance, and health of nature.
