Introduction
The Cherokees are indigenous people living in the United States of America. Historically, they owned large tracts of land around modern-day Tennessee, Georgia, and Carolina. The arrival of Europeans heralded a period of displacement, war, and cultural and religious assimilation for the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokees didn't have a word for their spiritual beliefs like religion,
everything in their world had a holy significance. Cherokee myths and tales imparted the knowledge and techniques required to preserve the harmony, balance, and health of nature. Their mythological beliefs are strongly tied to their cultural practices with everyday activities like farming, hunting, storytelling, having an origin story grounded in their spiritual beliefs.
The Cherokee have two types of stories, the creation stories, and the animal tales. The creation stories are more serious in nature and included for example, the world’s origin, migration, cultural heroes
like Ka-na-ti, the first man, and Se-lu, the first woman, and the ball game played between birds and animals. These myths detail how
