About this ebook

Introducing the Ecrutians, a once powerful and dominant race of magic users on Earth. They were superior to humans, treating them as pawns in their games. However, as time passed, the Ecrutians grew complacent, allowing arrogance and self-importance to consume them. Some Ecrutians of the race became driven by a lust for power, leading them down a destructive path.

Thie, one of the most potent Ecrutians, possessed the unique ability to create life. His staff, infused with powerful enchantments, also held dangerous spells. Seeing the decline of their kingdom, Thie decides to form an alliance with three other powerful magic users: Lotus, Os, and Irenia, despite their stark differences.

Lotus, an Ecrutian sorceress, exuded a pleasant countenance, a flirtatious manner, and a fanciful demeanor. Os, a formidable warrior, was over eight feet tall, with intimidating, dark eyes and a perpetually scowling expression. Irenia, an ancient wizardess, was clumsy and socially awkward but deeply loved peace and cherished all forms of life.

The four magic users united their powers and formed a fearsome entity named Thire-los. With the combined strength channeled through Thie's staff, they became an unstoppable force. Under their rule, an order was swiftly restored to the Ecrutian kingdom.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my lovely mother who encouraged me with her faith every day.  And to my Heavenly Father, whose love is enduring. He inspired my heart to write this series, and I thank Him with all my heart.

    Chapter One

    What Once Was

Before our world and its solar systems, there was a race of masterful magic users called Ercutians. Legend has it that Ercutians were once Earthlings who found favor with the gods because they shared many traits with humankind, but they were very unlike them in many ways. They held a godly eminence, and had a tremendous ability to create magic enchantments, cast spells, and create mystical potions that gave them great esteem amongst themselves and the other creatures of the universe.

However, as the centuries wore on, mystic abilities within the race grew too powerful to exist with the Earthlings, so they left Earth to find a land that would keep them isolated from all others. Elder Ercutians believed that by keeping themselves distant it would remove the desire to use their powers to annihilate and enslave those lesser than themselves. On Ercutis, their new home, these spellcasters would come to live in a paradise of beauty and peace.

With no kings or leaders, all Ercutians joyously accepted the responsibilities given to them in their pleasant, magical village of Talxenau. However, unspoken rules implied that sorcerers and sorceresses held a higher social status than the wizards and the wizardesses. The powerful spells of life, weather manipulations, prosperity, mortal fertility, natural healing, and love delivered by sorcerers and sorceresses gave them immense pride, but it also made them arrogant. Still, the lowly wizards and wizardesses held them in high esteem, for they could only cast natural harmony spells, protections, spells to promote the health of nature, and had the rudimentary knowledge to create magic powders and potions.

Sun cast its bright rays upon the village of Talxenau all year round. With magical potions, they were able to control the rain and only gentle sprays fell upon their lands. They never had snow or cold temperatures, and rare plants and trees were always vibrantly healthy. Oddly, colored grass covered the grounds of Talxenau, and their thin perfumed blades always kept their beautiful blue hues. Their kingdom was indeed that of fairy tales, for the Ercutians possessed an abundance of all their heart’s desires. Every sorcerer, wizard, sorceress, and wizardess took part in the kingdom’s upkeep, and they forged a mystical realm of happiness.

Ercutians loved beauty. With their quirky imaginations they used their powerful potions and powders upon their lands to create amazing gardens of exotic plants which fashioned a delightful, fanciful kingdom. Lovely purple flowers like teacups rested upon beds of shiny orange leaves which sparkled intensely under glowing auras of charming sunlight. Rare pointy tulip heads with sharp cupped petals, named Insatius by the great sorceress, Lotus, garnished Talxenau’s gardens in colors of pink, green, yellow, and purple, and their orange spindly stems reached several feet. Peculiar in appearance and charge, like soldiers protecting a king’s treasure, the Insatius towered erect and tall over the rest of the flora in the gardens. At night, Insatius petals opened widely to shelter plants beneath them from the cool of darkness, and above there were thick trees with round, golden leaves and almond white trunks that canopied the gardens, their shimmery rich leaves casting cool hues when the soft rains from heaven rested upon them. Under brilliant sunrises, these calming colors created a marvelous spectral of light that encased the kingdom’s borders.

Lovers of tranquility, Ercutians created peaceful, blue sapphire streams of gentle, babbling water that flowed into their many lakes that were spread throughout the kingdom. Ebony round pebbles that absorbed heat from sun bestowed pleasant temperatures, and small fish and other water creatures playfully swam across the sandy white bottoms.

In the late hours of the night, dainty mermaid and mermen arose and rested lazily upon grassy banks to dry out their tails and long hair. Quietly they chirped and sang soothing songs of joy. They had upper bodies of smooth skin that matched their sleek fish tails and brightly colored hair. Wavy locks of blue, brown, red, and golden sat upon their small heads, and the mermaid braided their fine strands of hair into two long ponytails. Large bubble eyes, tiny rat-like noses, and small mouths made them strange but pretty. Specks of shiny scales upon faces and tails shone under the moonlight, and gracefully these little ones darted around in the darkness of the night. Ercutians were unsure of the origin of these mystical creatures, but they had an agreeable nature, and these water beings were received with adoration.

So, the lives of these mighty people, for centuries beyond counting, remained quiet and peaceful. But as with all races, the long lives of elder lawmakers dwindled, and they passed over to a realm of non-existence. Contrary ideas started to appear among younger Ercutians and the lust for wealth and control grew. The ways of elders became unimportant to them, resentments prevailed, and sorrow fell upon the race.

    Chapter Two

    The Ercutian Shame

Throughout the ages , as generations of Ercutians aged and passed over, younger generations reached more excellent knowledge in their use of magic. They trained their mental faculties, developed unique tones, and their new syllabic accents soon worked just as well as powders and potions. As it was, many refused to brew their own potions or search for the elements to make them. As the old ways were no longer accepted by most, Ercutians grew soft, and lackadaisical attitudes of pride and self-importance consumed them. A lust for power took over, and many with hostile natures developed a desire for destruction and harm to others.

Vanity, where there once was none, arose within some of the Ercutians with knowledge of the most excellent spells, resulting in defiance against those who followed the beliefs of the elders. Hearts of stone grew within them, and they forsook all wisdom of the old. They attacked and fought amongst themselves, sometimes even taking the lives of those less powerful, something thought to be taboo among their race since the beginning of time.  A once peaceful people split. In a battle of prominence among themselves, the village of Talxenau fell into decline, anarchy spread, and their actions created a poisonous atmosphere across the entire planet of Ercutis.

Soon the noxious gloom spread, destroying the beautiful gardens, lakes, streams, and flowers of Talxenau and beyond. Lovely flowers evolved into unfriendly, grotesque foliage. Protective tulips sprouted straggly and carnivorous tentacles that devoured creatures. The long orange stems of the once powerful and protective Insatius plant transformed into decayed black stalks which no longer stood erect but drooped lazily downward. Plants the Insatius once protected they now destroyed, and mutated forked petals crept across the ground to drain life from any living creature.

Clear, tranquil lakes and stream waters turned foul and dark, and the water creatures stopped playfully swimming for fear of the once beloved Ercutians. Fish, mermaid, and mermen kept themselves hidden in deep water recesses. No longer did these beautiful little water dwellers search the lake bottoms for precious scales or pearls to give to Ercutians. Instead, magic users ravaged sandy lake bottoms in search of treasure with their toxic spells, and they destroyed anything caught in their enchantment’s cruel destruction.

War broke out among the Ercutians, and the infection spread, eventually consuming the entire planet, and turning it into a desolate and unfriendly land for all its inhabitants. For sport, Ercutians recklessly destroyed creatures beyond the walls of Talxenau. Soon, all other creatures grew even more hostile towards each other, afraid and desperate. Nothing upon land or water was safe.

Rebellious Ercutians created long-distance teleportation enchantments, and this once peaceful race of spellcasters began to explore other planets in search of others to dominate with their magic. Some returned to the forbidden world, Earth, and once they found out that their magical enchantments easily influenced humans, they sought out those who wished for wealth and power. Their need for dominance over Earthlings became paramount, and many purposely disobeyed old decrees and brazenly flaunted their magical abilities.

Humans, deceived by crafty magic users, began to search for Ercutians, and in their ignorance, people fell prey to deceitful promises. Ercutians took over kingdoms and vast regions, and if Earthlings refused to be ruled, magic users forced them by spreading great magical powers of obedience across their lands. Soon, humans fell at their feet and gave loyalty to them as if they were gods, and the Ercutians played with their lives like pawns in their game of supremacy.

    The Four

    Thie

ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL sorcerers amongst the Ercutians, Thie’s natural abilities gave the creation of life, yet his great magic held the destruction of life as well. Thie developed his magic like others and his staff of gnarled, twisted wood – a branch from a rainbow-leafed tree infused with magical enchantments – held terrible spells. Within his weapon, turbulent waters gushed upward then returned downward to envelop its source before infusing it with the sorcerer’s magic spells.

Thie was one of very few Ercutians that thrived on both water and land, and these oddities could be seen in both his magic and his appearance. Minuscule scales sat over his
