Short Stories For Children - Adrian Rodriguez
The Mysterious Treasure Map
In a coastal town named Rift, live a couple of adventurers named Jack and Wendy. The two of them were orphans who grew up together in this small town and joined the Adventurers Guild as soon as they were old enough, hoping that this would allow them to explore the world and delve into exciting journeys.
Several years after this, the duo was currently in the middle of a job. The client had
requested to acquire a rare breed of cactus that only appeared in the desert west of Rift.
––––––––
We found one!
Exclaimed Jack with excitement.
––––––––
After many days of walking the sandy terrain, they had finally found the one they were
looking for.
The cactus they spotted was different from every other one as this one had some very
flashy blue flowers all over its surface, which gave it the name ‘Azurian Cactus’.
Wendy sighed in relief.
––––––––
Finally...we can get out of this desert. I hate the heat! I want a bath!.
She shouted.
––––––––
Jack laughed and pulled out the tools that they brought to store the plant. Wendy hurried to help him so he could not claim to have done the job or she would be hearing about it for days.
They removed the cactus from the sandy ground and stored it in the container they have brought, but as they did this, Wendy managed to catch a momentary glimmer of something that was underneath the cactus.
––––––––
She told this to her partner and they decided to investigate further. Wendy’s instincts were telling her that something valuable was underneath and her instinct was rarely wrong.
As they moved the sand away, something metallic came into view and after pulling it out, they were both left staring in shock at a very old-looking chest.
I knew it! Quick opened it up,
called Wendy. Jack used his skills to pick open the lock and opened the chest.
A paper?
Jack stared in disappointment at the contents. Inside it was a rolled-up yellowish piece of paper with a red ribbon keeping it close.
No, that's a scroll! let me see.
Wendy opened carefully the ancient-looking piece of parchment and revealed a very detailed map. There were several islands depicted in this map and the one on the top had an x marked on it. There were also several intricate marlins on the sides.
––––––––
Is that what I think it is?!
Asked Jack.
––––––––
A treasure map!.
Exclaimed Wendy.
The duo spent the next week preparing for their journey. They managed to identify the surrounding islands depicted on the map and some of the marlins on the side which would allow them to hopefully reach the island marked with an X.
They left the town in a small boat filled with supplies they had bought by using all of their
savings.
After many harsh days of traveling the seas, going through the harsh sun and a terrifying
storm, the duo of adventurers arrived at a peculiar island.
––––––––
That has to be it! look at it, it's amazing!
Jack stared in awe at the sight.
––––––––
There is no doubt, this is the island depicted in the map!
Wendy said with certainty.
The island they were looking at appears to be something out of a fairy tale. The island itself was small and covered in greenery but the most eye-catching aspect of it was the massive ancient tree that had grown in the middle of it. The tree was so big that it covered the entire island under its shade and so tall that the top had managed to reach the clouds.
––––––––
As Jack and Wendy moved toward the colossal ancient tree, they saw a little opening in its trunk, revealing a secret chamber. As they entered the enigmatic passage, excitement ran through their veins.
––––––––
Inside, they found a secret underground world, loaded up with shining crystals and
sparkling plants. In stark contrast to the scorching desert they had just traversed, the air was cool and refreshing. The chamber was illuminated by a delicate and ethereal shine that radiated from the crystals.
––––––––
Jack and Wendy ventured deeper into the underground
